Small or Far Away, Father Dougal on Cows

Hi Everybody!

Hi Everybody!

Hola a todos!

He’s still at it.

You should never have let him put Duolingo on his phone.

Muchas gracias Padre!

You have to admit he’s getting pretty good at it.

¿Podrías darme otra semilla de calabaza, por favor?

No, I think you have had enough for now.

Wait, you speak Spanish?

Nope, but there was only one thing that could have meant.

Well, I can think of other things it could have meant.

Any that do not involve profanity?

Um, no, right, because those words you know, he did not use them, so yeah, must have been asking for a Pumpkin seed,

Got it on one.

Mi aerodeslizador está lleno de anguilas

…no idea.

So, before Seňor Hamster further distracts us…

¡Soy una adorable distracción!

….we have two things to talk about this week.

Please!

Firstly, last week was a bit rough for lots of us. The order of matches made it worse but it was  just a big ugh week. Not everything went wrong but still. So, no matter how mad it was or who you missed or should have missed, things often work out, and if not, well, there is always next year.

Can you give an example of how things work out? Like, sounds dodgy.

¿Quieres volver a mi casa, brinca-brinca?

Yeah, so, I thought I had messed up before round one and it turns out I didn’t, because luck. Planned to start with Rankine and Levi, got spooked by the sub news and went to Brayshaw and Sam PP.  Then I traded out Tsatas to get Levi next round. So it looked like I had messed up my structure, gotten an expensive crap cow and then needed a trade to bring in one of the guys at traded out, and I had to ditch a cow I’d have rather kept. So, I was really unhappy to have messed up before the first round was even over. Was pissed up until Tsatas broke his hand, which made that a trade I would have made anyway, so just unhappy about the wrong players.

But, now after 6 rounds, you are happy to have Brayshaw over Rankine and to have SPP at all!

Yeah, I stressed myself out for nothing. Worse, something that worked well, even if by accident.

So the point is?

Tienes unos muslos hermosos

Uh, the point is that no matter how unhappy you are now, it will either end up right, or at least not matter so much in the end. So for people like me who missed Naicos, well, no worries, have a tasty beverage of your choice, and be thankful your hamster isn’t learning Spanish!

¡Mis pezones explotan de alegría!

Ok, what’s the other thing?

We talked about age last week, but mostly in regards to non-cows. Probably worth mentioning a thing that I tend to forget every year.

Which is?

Rookies almost never keep up good scores all season. An 18 year old just is not going to have a body that can handle a full season. Lots of them can barely handle 3-4 matches in a row, or make it to the byes. But, we are getting more and more rookies that are not 18 years old. Someone like Bice, who is 24, very well could keep it up all year. So, check the age of anyone you are thinking of keeping.

Dodgy Advice: Tom Stewart. If he stays all dodgy and hurt, he’ll be worth what he costs. He could well do batter.

Prep for incoming fallen premiums in future weeks.

  1. Hey Father, excellent read as always. Although not sure if I should be trying to understand a bilingual hamster…. In the last three years we have seen Nick D, Harry Sheezel and Nick Martin all have very solid rookie seasons with almost no drop off. Obviously Martin was older and Nick D has been in an elite environment for all his life. Who knows why Harry Sheezel was so good and so consistent from the get go. Do you think that Levi is possibly on the path of being great all year due to his long term exposure to an elite environment? Thanks!

    • Indeed, Naicos and Sheezel, also Cripps, are why I said “almost never” since clearly there are a few blokes who have done it. Levi…I have no idea. The issue as I understand it is a body / conditioning thing. So, If he’s closer to AFL standard than other 18 year olds, that ought to matter. Watching him play is probably the best way to determine it.
