Game Chat Geelong v Hawthorn

Written by Father Dougal on April 5 2021

Where and when: 3:20 pm Monday at the MCG

What it means for the Cats:  At 1-1 a win heads them towards a winning season and a loss moves them towards a losing season. They are desperately trying to keep their premiership window open and need to beat Hawthorn if they are really a finals team

What it means for the Hawks:At 1-1 a win heads them towards a winning season and a loss moves them towards a losing season.  Of course the Hawks seem to have had their ru and are in a rebuild mode, although maybe they don’t agree.

Supercoach Watch:

Cats:  Tom Stewart. Adn, well…Hawking? With Danger out, not a lot of SC relevant Cats

Hawks: Kozza, Brockman, Impey, Phillips, and of course Titch.

Father Dougal’s Watch:  Jordan Clark. Almost 55% ownership and nobody will know he is is playing until after the last Sunday game has started. And if he does play, will he be finally ton up or choke and get himself dropped. He’d be good if he can just keep his job

Father Dougal’s Tip:  Brain say Geelong, but I feel like the Hawks are going to pull one out from the Danger-less Cats. But, yeah, Cats by 3

    1. Mark O’Connor tagging & shutting down Titch today?

TU – Yes, Titch will go 80- 100 today.
TD – No, Titch will still go 105+

      1. The biggest problem I see is that he’s slow. For the first time last week, I actually saw him do some good stuff, but it wasn’t over the 4 quarters, but as a young player, that’s not expected.

I’m not sure why he’s out this week, but there’s something there that is holding him back. Maybe it’s training, maybe he’s being told to play a certain way but refuses to, who knows?

  1. I am so excited for my hawkers today. A win would be ideal but as long as we can put up as a good of a contest as we did last week against the tigers Id be a happy man. Praying Kozzie and brockman can deliver for me today! Also if Phillips could step up for me and hit 3 figures today that would be great. Hope everyone has had a great easter and enjoys a great game of footy today

        1. Eh, a little underwhelming. Short, Dusty, Satan, Macrae, Bont and Neale all uninspiring. 1995 with Clark and Kos left. Don’t think they’ll score well, just happy they’re playing lol.

          Yourself?

          1. Im a bit on the fence tbh. Nailed the C on Gawn but Neale and clay have let me down but most have them anyway. Currently 1925 with phillips kozz brock and T stewart. If i could push 2200 or 2250 with those 4 Id be pretty happy.

Looks like youve got a good enough squad to back up next week too many stars not too.

            1. Oh, you’ll do 2200+ easily dw.

Dream scenario would be Phillips, Brock, Kos and the Hawks carve it up and Stewart defends all day lol.

    1. Even as a hawker I can say the swans. Brockman looks good, Day is a star. I like CJ and finn maginness even though hes not getting a game.

  4. o’connor should get the job done
tich will never fully recover from his leg injuries
    too much damage

    1. Mitchell said in an interview last week that he had power through his legs again and felt like he did in 2018. Remember he has never really coped well with a tag – only the contested ball beasts like Fyfe can play through a hard tag.

  5. Can anyone watching the game please tell me why Selwood got a free kick when caught holding the ball?

    1. Was given Holding the man. Was a ridiculous decision when he had prior when he looked at breust then decided to drop the ball. Awful decision

      1. Holding the man! Wow – he was tackled as soon as he received the ball and it came loose. Why is that not play on?

      1. He was tackled and taken to ground in one action, the ball came loose in that action. That’s a clear no-call for mine. There is way too much over-umpiring at the moment.

    1. is that ray umpiring
he should never be allowed to umpire hawthorn games
has a blatant dislike for the club

    2. I don’t think the umpiring is affecting the result that much – the Hawks were horrible early. I just get annoyed by the nonsensical decisions and the lack of care given to ball-winning players.

If you watch the first half of the Melbourne vs Giants game yesterday, Oliver was being impeded and held off the ball and rarely received a free kick.

      1. you watch thommo
if its close @ the end
ray will pay a dubious free for something that has been let go all game to get the cats over the line
he has been doing it to the hawks btw these 2 teams for 10 years

  6. Brockman on fire being on 0 at half time. Disappointed I couldn’t get him on the field. Kossie on 4 at half as well. These Hawks rookies are tearing it up

Oh my bad, just having have a dream

  7. Tell you what hawkers giving it a real crack. Some lack of discipline really hurting us.
    Scores at HT:
    Guthrie 87
    Hawkins 55
    Stewart 45
    Holmes 43
    Clark 21

    Impey 54
    CJ 46
    Titch 41
    Phillips 40
    Kozzie 4
    Brockman 0

My hopes of 2250 or even 2200 are fading 🙁

  8. All of us praying for Kosi to play, it’s like fielding a donut anyway.

Mark O’Connor the new DeB – Clarry might be picked up cheap soon.

    1. yep – he’s another one clearly out of his depth … and how you dropped an uncontested mark in front of the goals is beyond me. Just awful last week and this week.

    1. Lewis and Kosi are probably too inexperienced to play together – surely the Hawks play O’Brien with Lewis next week. Brockman may survive as he’s been good in the last two games.

  9. The game may be more open through the middle of the ground with the new rules but I’m not sure this is an improvement. The umpires are so desperate to pay free kicks in front of goal, it ruins the flow of the game.

  10. Look, obviously very disappointing to lose but very proud of the effort wed put in today. If we had shown a bit more polish we could of snaffled it. Would love to see the goal review to see if it was touched, similarly to cricket with catches that are 50/50 the soft signal is based on the player. The goal umpire took Blicavs word for it that hed touched it and when technology is inconclusive its hard to take a soft signal when its based on a player from one of the team, allows for players to be dishonest.

Besides that CJ was very exciting, Mitch Lewis was good to be back but god we are frustrating sometimes (Daniel Howe im looking at you). If we can play like this every week we ill be a happy hawker.

Well played Geelong and see you next easter!

    1. Good call, all you really want is effort and improvement by season’s end. So far the effort is there.
