Game Chat – Port v Melbourne

Where and when: Adelaide Oval at 7:40pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 9, 2020: Melbourne 4.8 (32) DEF BY Port 12.11 (83) at The Gabba.

Last five: Port 4-1, Melbourne 3-2

Match Preview: Interesting match this one. A month ago you would’ve been putting your house on The Dees but after losses to Adelaide, Collingwood and last week GWS, I’ve got no confidence in them at all. Especially in Adelaide against 4th placed Port who appear to have regained their mojo. Looking forward to the Steven May / Charlie Dixon match up and the battle of the midfields.

Mottsy Watch:

Port
Boak, Wines, Dixon
Melbourne
Gawn, Oliver, Petracca

Mottsy’s Tip: Port by 10 points (tipping record 32/45).

    • Reckon he has been unlucky with his score in the first quarter too. His ruck work in the centre of the ground has been great, needs to get amongst it around the ground.

Good game of footy so far!

    • He got under scored in Q1. Not rewarded for some premium service to his mids on the last 3 CBA’s. Hope he can turnaround his fortunes in the next 3 quarters.

  2. Went against captaincy candidates this week and put the vc on Gawn as I was hoping he’d bounce back with Melbourne this week. Not ideal but having petracca Oliver and may has made this a very enjoyable game for me to watch.

    • Had a deadly last 5 minutes, Tom. Might get to something serviceable.

That said, with the ever increasing ruck split with Jackson he’s out of my calculations unless it’s against a weak opp. ruck.

Loving Petracca, Oliver and Boak on my end.

      • That said GD – he is once again being smashed by CD scoring of him, as he has complete dominance of Port rucks, but not getting rewarded for it. This has been a theme this year against Maxxy IMHO … he’s also being hammered on his DE … he could / should be on a lot bigger score …

        • Right on cue lol, Macca.

Yeah, been done in by CD but always an uphill battle with his role: ruck split with Jackson and floating FWD as a target instead of down back loose.

          • yeah, no doubt its hampering his scoring a little, but I think there has been a definite move away from scoring him well this year … hi HO counts in most matches are miles in front of his opposition, yet he’s getting little reward for it … whereas the last few years, with his numbers he’s going huge most weeks.

There was a comment a few weeks back about his hands and not taking as many marks. He is missing some and may be impacting his confidence … telling was late in that last quarter was in defence for shot on goal, ball drifting wide of point post and Maxxy went up uncontested and punched it through for behind when had an easy mark.

            Combination of factors maybe?

      • Yeah i think he might be “Gawn” as an option for captaincy with Jackson in the side. Forgot to ask gd what did you do with j Cameron?

        • Looks like I’m gonna ship him out for De Goey. Even though I hate him lol, he’s got that OB role.

Thinking/hoping the way Nicks took over and experimented successfully with Laird OB, Harvey will do the same with De Goey.

          Other option was Daniher.
