  2. Stephens is dropped is it that clear cut to axe him for Martin or is ward still the one too go? I definitely prefer stephens scoring power when he plays but when Is he recalled?

I have 40 min to decide cause this affects my VC loop.
Keeping Stephens means a get a better look than my Friday night loophole player..

TU: trade Stephens his not coming back
TD: trade ward he can’t score to save himself

    1. Hardly saw him that quarter! Looks like Drew-Boak-Wines the preferred setup, especially with Drew tagging

  3. Not the start I wanted for my VC Clarry.
Port look to be sticking close defensively to their man at stoppages.

  4. Gawn and Jackson decimating port and now lycett looks like he’s hurt his shoulder, if he’s gone for the night it could be a massacre

  5. Could be a record breaking night, port in their Afl history have never been goalless at half time.

  6. Lmao butters. Kick after the siren to finally get a goal and he gives away a free kick when they’ve got a shot on goal.

Port crowd could really turn on port in this second half if it gets ugly.

  7. Up your butters! Playing crap and giving away a free kick like that I sense a rage trade coming up

  8. I don’t think I’ll start Butters ever again unless he’s guaranteed to play full-time midfield.

  9. Butters doing nothing – and then when he does something it is to Melbourne’s benefit!!!
The only consolation is that most teams have him.

  10. Yep – wheels have fallen off at Port and sensing a lot of disharmony.

I think Butters is showing what is happening behind the scenes – not happy in the role he has been handed … and based on way Port are playing, he may have a justified gripe … think he offers more in their mid than their current structure …
Regardless, they look in complete disarray …

  12. ……possible new game rule pending…….”If you don’t get the ball on your backline regularly, you should be rotating your defence though the midfield “………I hear your calls Bowey, and Bowey owners…….

  13. Maxxie has 10 clangers, including 4 frees against and a 60% DE … and still on 157 points?? … He had a big first quarter score with very poor DE at that stage … I give up on trying to follow CD scoring … one week he (or other rucks) have a blinder and get scored poor … next week, make more mistakes etc and score better …

    1. I can’t follow it myself. Last week Steele was on 21 points after just 1 kick, yet other players can have a couple of effective possessions for 4 points. Although I think Gawn’s score was boosted by a lot of intercept marks and hitouts to advantage

  14. While i dont disagree with you that CD is hard to follow. Gawn has 25 disposals 18 of those kicks 6 clearances a goal 6 intercepts and 5 contested marks. Especially when the game was on the line in the first half with higher scaling he was close to BOG.

    1. Yeah Tom – I Know what the scores in the book say – it doesn’t necessarily mean they actually got those scores as they are recorded.

I switched off following closely after a while and must admit I didn’t take note of all his intercepts – depending on how they were recorded (hard or easy) they can score big points.

Witts dominated him a couple of weeks ago, but it was on the GC and the scorers didn’t pay Witts many of his taps to advantage etc and they weren’t at the game – there was 400 points not allocated at end and dodgy how it was allocated at the end … tonight, Maxxie is paid almost everything … and whilst Lycett was injured, not sure it was that way to that extent. Same for him sitting on the bench the last 5-7 minutes … his scored climbed up to 159 from below 150 … whilst not playing … and with a 60% DE …

Other players that had such a poor DE score in other matches and in other seasons, particularly at QT, don’t get their scores increasing the way his has tonight … it’s one of the things completely wrong in the scoring system – the scaling and the total points allocated across a game – it leaves so much room for CD to manipulate as they see fit …

No doubt he was one of games best tonight – just not sure it lines up with the scoring as it should …

  15. Maybe Butters is actually broken.
Can imagine he will be most traded player this week coming.
A lot of people would have Oliver as the VC ….I hope for those coaches sake Macrae doesn’t go low.
Max is back…how shit will those coaches who traded him out be feeling.

  16. I think im gonna hold butters, was good first 2 weeks. Last week was down because powell pepper ran through him and he played injured and tonight port was garbage.

Not going to enjoy holding him but i think he will be top 6 forward end of the year.

  17. Is it just me, or were the port tactics idiotic? I mean bombing long balls into one of the best intercept defenses seems stupid to me.
How long does Kenny last from here?

  18. Think Butters has been hurt with Port trying to play him forward of centre given the complete lack of forward options. He scores much better when he plays predominant midfield.
No doubt for me he’s in best 6 forwards and given everyone has him, don’t think he’s too much of a concern.
