Updated timeline for return

GOLD COAST

Elliott Himmelberg has sustained an ACL injury and has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Max Knobel has sustained a foot injury, with a timeline yet to be determined for his recovery.

“Max presented with some mid-foot pain during Saturday’s game and scan results have shown a fracture in the affected region,” Bull said.

“Max will be further reviewed by a specialist this week before the next course of action is decided for his recovery.”

Lloyd Johnston was a third casualty from the VFL, sustaining a concussion, and has entered the AFL’s concussion protocols.

Will Graham and Jake Rogers have both successfully undergone surgery on their shoulder and ankle injuries respectively.

Graham is expected to be sidelined long-term, while Rogers is expected to return in 4-6 weeks.

GWS

Finn Callaghan will be sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks after scans confirmed a minor shoulder dislocation He won’t require surgery and will be targeting a return in round 14.

Toby McMullin is only expected to miss one week, after being subbed out at half-time during Saturday’s match at ENGIE Stadium after presenting with adductor irritation.

Josh Kelly, will return to modified team training this week as he continues to progress in his recovery plans following irritation in his hip joint. 1-2 weeks

Brent Daniels is also making progress in his return-to-play protocols and will increase his running and training load this week. 3-4 weeks

Stephen Coniglio will consult a specialist this week after struggling to meet his training re-load demands last week. 4 weeks

HAWTHORN

Luke Breust – back (1-2 weeks)

“He’s still sore. He’s had a little bit of progression from last week. He’s been riding a bike and today he went outside and walked some laps. We expected it was going to be sore for a little while but it should hopefully pick up next week and we can get him moving at the start of the week. We’ll make a reassessment at the end of next week as to his availability which means he’s not playing this weekend. It’s still a one to two week proposition at this stage but we’re hoping for some improvement over the next couple of days.”

Noah Mraz – concussion (1-2 weeks)

“He had a concussion episode in the VFL game. He was withdrawn from the game after the incident. He will now follow the standard protocols with our doc Liam West. It’s minimum 12 days so we’ve listed him as one to two weeks but we’re hoping it’s just one week missed. He’s feeling really good, he did some running today so at this stage, he’s tracking well. He’s played quite a bit of football already which is fantastic for a first-year player and he needs to obviously first recover from the concussion but also generally just get a short break and we can reload and go again.”

Matt Hill – ankle (2-3 weeks)

“He had an incident in the game on the weekend at the Gold Coast. He actually has a very small syndesmosis ankle sprain which is different to a typical lateral ankle sprain. There’s all sorts of different grades of these, they can be severe or they can be very minor and he’s on the minor end so we’re expecting that to be two weeks, potentially three weeks. But at this stage, he’s in a boot just for a couple of days to absolutely give it some stabilisation and let it settle but we expect it will turn around quite quickly. Like Noah, he’s played some football in his first year at the club, VFL football as an AFL-listed player, so a little rest generally will be good for him. We’ll just rehab the ankle accordingly and go again when he’s ready.”

Mitch Lewis – knee (5 weeks)

“Mitch Lewis was going really well until recently. We’ve just been dealing with a calf niggle which has just set him back a week or two. He’s started running again this week. But as with any long-term injury, sometimes you face these little bumps along the way when his training load has been increasing, which we were doing. The knee itself is fantastic, his strength is really good, he’s put a fair bit of work in and has a lot of work behind him. We’ve just hit a little speed bump in the road, which is just going to delay his return more than likely to post-bye, so we’ve listed that as five weeks from now. But we’re expecting he’ll progress back into training over the next week, and then we can progress from there into his return to play.”

Will Day – foot (2-3 months)

“He’s going really well and has progressed into some stairwalking, doing a lot of reps and his strength work in the gym is just fantastic at the moment. Some of the markers that he’s hit in the last week or two have been excellent. What that’s telling us is that he’s ready to start running very soon so we’ll be running on the AlterG treadmill in the next two weeks and beyond that, we’ll be back outside building his conditioning. In terms of the timeline, we’ve made it two to three months, which is still quite broad, but once we get back running and have that next scan which is a couple of weeks away, we’ll be more exact with which round he’s going to return which means he’s going to play some games at the end of this season. We’ll have more of a definitive update in the next couple of weeks on that but right now, his timeline is two to three months still and he’s progressing really well.”

RICHMOND

Dion Prestia: Available

“Happy to say that Dion will be available for selection this week,” Serpell said.

“I’m sure the fans are pretty excited about that, and it’s good for Dion. He has a big smile on his face, and it will be good to see him play this year.”

Tylar Young: Available

“I’m happy to say that Tylar Young will return to play this week,” Serpell said.

“So he will be available for selection, and as with Mykelti last week, all of the boys are excited to see him get out there, and they will get around him over the next week or so.”

Samson Ryan: Available

“Samson Ryan will be available for selection this week,” Serpell said.

“That’s exciting for him, and the rest of the boys are excited about that too.”

Tom Lynch: Concussion, 1 week

“Tom Lynch sustained a concussion which didn’t present until well after the game, it was more of a delayed onset,” Serpell said.

“He will go through the concussion protocols now, but with things going well, he will be available for selection against GWS in a couple of weeks.”

Jayden Short: Calf, 1-2 weeks

“Shorty missed a game a couple of weeks ago, where he pulled out in the warm-up due to knee soreness,” Serpell said.

“Unfortunately, in the last couple of weeks, that knee soreness has tracked to the back of his leg, and he has sustained a small soleus strain in his calf.

“We will manage that over the next couple of weeks, and just like we do with any of our other players, we will take a precautionary approach with it and give him a bit of time.

“He will miss the next one to two (weeks), so we can make sure that he is right to go when he is available.”

Mate Colina: Knee, 1-2 weeks

“Mate got through a good body of work last week, but he probably still needs another week of training to go before we are comfortable sending him out,” Serpell said.

“Hopefully, in the not-too-distant future, we will see Mate out there.”

Taj Hotton: ACL, 5-8 weeks
Josh Gibcus: ACL, 6-9 weeks

“Taj is doing well, but no real update on where he is at from last week,” Serpell said.

“We will just bring his timeline a week earlier.

“The same for Gibbo (Josh Gibcus), both of them are training pretty hard and getting a fair bit done.

“Wearing a non-contact hat, but both are performing well, and we will go through some testing with them at the back end of this week.”

Harry Armstrong: Hamstring, 7-9 weeks

“Not a lot of update on him,” Serpell said.

“He is progressing well and getting a good body of work in. He is running a lot, and starting to run a little bit faster as well, but again, his timeline just comes back a week sooner now.”

Josh Smillie: Hamstring, TBC

“Josh Smillie is doing well,” Serpell said.

“The injury itself is healing quite well, as we said last week, we want to look after Josh and make sure he is in a good position, not only in the short term but in the long term.

“So we are going to continue with his athletic development over the next little while, and when we feel that he is ready to play a good amount of footy, we will throw him out there.

“Until that point in time, we are just going to focus on him as an athlete and as a footballer.”

ST KILDA

Jack Macrae  Scans confirmed a punctured lung. “We’ll monitor Jack over the next few days, however at this stage it’s unlikely he’ll play before our bye in Round 13.”

Liam Stocker is also expected to miss the next three weeks as he manages a stress reaction in his foot.

Paddy Dow has had his return to play timeline established as he continues to make positive strives in his rehabilitation from a severe knee infection.

INJURY LIST

Jack Macrae | Lung | 2-3 Weeks
Liam Stocker | Foot | 3 Weeks
Paddy Dow | Knee | 4-5 Weeks
Dougal Howard | Hamstring | 5-6 Weeks

WEST COAST EAGLES

Jeremy McGovern remains in the AFL Concussion Protocols

Jeremy McGovern will consult an AFL Concussion Panel for assessment by an interdisciplinary group of experts.

“Jeremy’s health and wellbeing is our number one priority, and he has not currently advanced through the Concussion Protocols due to ongoing symptoms,” General Manager Football Gavin Bell said today.

“Jeremy has suffered multiple concussions over his career, which adds complexity to his situation and his recovery. Our club doctors, in conjunction with the AFL Chief Medical Officer, have recommended referral to the AFL Concussion Panel to help inform a safe way forward in the interest of his current and future welfare.

“We are awaiting a date for the panel to convene and assess Jeremy, and there are a range of outcomes that could result from their report.

“These may include personalised treatment or rehabilitation plans, an extension of the return-to-play timeframe, recommendations for further tests or specialist referrals, or retirement on medical grounds.
