The midfielder has been completing an inside modified training program, working on building strength in his foot.

Oscar Steene continues to work his way through a rehab program for his toe injury.

The 20-year-old will look to increase his running programs this week.

ESSENDON

Nik Cox Has entered concussion protocols and is unavailable

Saad El-Hawli made a successful return from a syndesmosis injury via the VFL on the weekend.

The mid-season draftee registered 21 touches, 10 score involvements and eight inside 50’s in his first game back after nine weeks on the sidelines as the Bombers’ VFL outfit secured a 12-point win over Gold Coast.

Jordan Ridley and Matt Guelfi are each tracking well in their injury recoveries, eyeing off potential returns in a week’s time.

FREMANTLE

Josh Treacy will be a test to play

Sean Darcy would also be a test to play against GWS. “Sean had a little bit of knee soreness”

Michael Walters (hamstring) and recruits Oscar McDonald (knee) and Ollie Murphy (abdomen) have overcome their injuries.

“Sonny (Walters) is going really well,” Merriman said.

“As I’ve been saying, he’s going to be fit when he comes back, and he will be available this week.

“The two key backs (McDonald and Murphy) are ready to go and will be available this week on managed minutes.

“It will be great to see them back out there.”

Meanwhile, developing ruck Max Knobel will also be a test to play following the heavy collision he sustained during Peel Thunder’s Reserves loss to South Fremantle.

GEELONG

Tanner Bruhn and Ted Clohesy have entered the AFL’s concussion protocols following their games on the weekend.

Sam De Koning has today had a minor procedure on his knee.

“Sam has been managing a knee injury, more particularly with his patella. He has had a minor procedure today and we expect him to miss one-to-two weeks,”

Cameron Guthrie (achilles) and Mark O’Connor (knee) throughout their rehabilitation and will confirm a return to play timeframe as they get closer.

GOLD COAST

Touk Miller will undergo scans on his wrist injury this week to determine if he is able to return to play.

Ethan Read will undergo a test at main training this week to determine if he is fit to return from a leg fracture.

He’s joined by key forward Levi Casboult who will also need to train fully this week to be available to play after a hamstring injury.

GWS

Stephen Coniglio is in line to play his first game since round 18 after completing full contact training last week.

Also expected to return is ruck Kieren Briggs, who missed last week’s win over the Lions after being managed.

Toby McMullin, a late out for the Brisbane clash, will also look to prove his fitness at Thursday’s main training after managing groin soreness across recent weeks.

Phoenix Gothard, who missed last week’s VFL clash with a calf complaint, will also need to pass a fitness test at training on Thursday while Jacob Wehr – who came off in the VFL’s loss to the Lions after a heavy collision – is a test as well.

Wehr was sent to hospital as a precaution following the match in Brisbane but was given the all-clear and returned home to Sydney on Monday morning.

HAWTHORN

Changkuoth Jiath (calf soreness) – test

“Last week, he just reported some soreness out of the weekend. He had trained earlier in the week, we got to our main session and he was still reporting some general soreness, but he did most of our drills. He got some treatment during our main training session and then went out and completed the session but we just made the decision to take the conservative approach and not play him on the weekend. I would anticipate though that he would resume training this week and then we’ll make an assessment later in the week. Our main session is Friday and we’ll have a look at CJ on Friday and then we’ll make a judgement from there as to his availability.”

Ned Reeves (back) – test

“Ned has progressed and has been doing some conditioning over the past week. He still has some other niggles that we’re managing just in the transition back into football. We expect him to do some training tomorrow but we’ll make a decision on his availability later in the week. At this stage, it’s a bit of a 50/50 for us at the moment. We need to see more progression in some of his actions, football actions and mobility before we make that jump into match play.”

Cooper Stephens (concussion) – test

“He’s tracking really well. He’s ticking all the boxes and we’ll start some training tomorrow again with the main group in a controlled manner with contact and later in the week, he’ll resume full contact and potentially be available for the weekend.”

Bailey Macdonald (ankle) – 1 week

“Bailey’s just managing an ankle issue at the moment from the game two weeks ago in the VFL. He’s progressed a little slower than we would have liked. We’re back running at the moment but he won’t play this weekend. We want to get on top of this and make sure he’s right to go but I would anticipate next week, he’ll progress into training. Given the way the VFL’s set up, we have an AFL game next week, I think the VFL has locked in a top-six position so there is another bye next week for them so depending on how we’re tracking and how Bailey’s tracking, we’ll make an assessment next week.”

Josh Bennetts (shoulder) – season

“He had shoulder surgery last week to repair some damage there and there was a number of things that had to be looked at and fixed up. We saw him back at the club today, he’s back around the group which is fantastic for him. He’s now starting a process of rehabilitation for his shoulder which is a lengthy process of up to four months to return to play and that’s full contact, so he’ll be running in the short term but there will be some steps of strength and introductory contact that will happen over next pre-season and leading into Christmas and hopefully having him back into full training next year.”

Sam Butler (leg) – season

“He had his first run on the AlterG today which was fantastic. The whole group got around him which was awesome. It’s always great to see those little milestones that the players tick off when they come back from long-term injuries, whether it’s doing their first AlterG treadmill run or their first run outside on land or their first drill of football. There are some goals for him to reach now over the next few months. Those milestones are fantastic and he’s ticked the first one off today.”

“He has been put in a moonboot to offload that foot for conservative management and to enable greater recovery.”

Zac Fisher is ready to go for the weekend having missed the past three AFL games due to a foot complaint.

“Zac has had a strong 10-day period where he has been in group training and functioning at a high level,” White said.

“He trained today and will look to press his case once again on Thursday.”

George Wardlaw has passed through concussion assessments after sustaining a head knock against Geelong in Round 20.

The second-year Roo trained with the group on Tuesday.

“Providing he pulls up well from Thursday’s main session, he’ll be up for selection this weekend,” White said.

Dylan Stephens (ankle) will look to prove his fitness.

“Dylan had a good on-field session on Tuesday in re-loading post-ankle sprain,” White said.

“He will test his top-end function at training on Thursday in pushing for selection this weekend.”

Hamish Free (concussion) “is still in non-contact training protocols” and has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

RICHMOND

Tom Lynch, hamstring – ruled out for the remainder of the season

“(A full pre-season for him is) extremely important. Tom’s actually now missed two full pre-seasons, and even on top of that, he’s missed two off-seasons. So, he’s gone into the last two off-seasons rehabbing, and low level rehab. So, it’s quite exciting for us to get Tom healthy at this stage of the year, so he can have a decent break, attack his off-season and do a full pre-season, which will hold him in great stead for next year and be really exciting for our Tigers supporters.”

Liam Baker, concussion

“Unfortunately (with when) it happened, the timing’s not great because the 12-day concussion protocol will rule him out for two games. He started doing some light exercise today and we anticipate he’ll be healthy for the last game against the Suns.”

Kane McAuliffe, illness

“Kane’s been battling a chest infection the last few weeks. The doctor made a decision last Saturday morning to pull him out of the (VFL) game, he just still wasn’t right. He’s feeling a little bit better today, so we’ll see how he is later in the week. We anticipate he’ll be okay to play.”

Marlion Pickett, hamstring

“Marlion’s moving okay, we’ll just see how he is later this week with regards to this weekend, but we’re hoping he’ll at least play the last game.”

Tom Brown, ankle

“‘Browny’ had surgery on his right shoulder last week, he’s pulled up really well. He’s also in a moon boot for his syndesmosis. He’ll have surgery in about four weeks’ time on his other shoulder, but from all reports, he’s going really well.”

Steely Green, ankle

“Steely’s in a moon boot. He’s like a Jumping Jack at the moment, he doesn’t really know what to do with all his spare time. He’s feeling a lot better and he’ll be fine for a full pre-season.”

Jack Ross and Liam Fawcett, VFL returns

“(They went) really great. Liam just played the half, he’s pulled up really well. We’ll increase his game time this weekend. ‘Rossy’ (was) the same, he pulled up quite well and we’re looking forward to seeing him play (again) this week.”

Campbell Gray, hamstring

“Campbell’s going okay. Like we mentioned earlier, he’s working a lot on his athletic traits, working really hard with our medical and fitness staff. At this stage, we’re probably not going to see him again this year, but he’s looking okay for a full pre-season.”

Josh Gibcus, knee

“‘Gibbo’ has turned the corner in the last couple of weeks, his strength has really improved, and we’re really hoping to get him running next week.”

Mate Colina, back

“Mate had a positive scan yesterday. It showed full healing his bone edema. We’re going to consult with a specialist to see what our next move is with him.”

Dom Sheed underwent a foot operation on Tuesday, giving him the best chance to have a clear run at training this coming off-season.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Tim English

Having suffered an ankle injury on the weekend, scans have confirmed a moderate grade injury.

“Scans have confirmed that he has a moderate grade ligament injury,” Head of Sports Medicine, Chris Bell said.

“Tim won’t play this week, and we will work through a process across the next seven days to determine his return to play plan.”

Anthony Scott will return to the field after exiting concussion protocols.

“Anthony Scott has been in a concussion management model after suffering a concussion two weeks ago,” Bell said.

“He still needs to tick some boxes for us across this week, but if he gets through main training like I expect, he will return to availability. “
