“Melbourne superstar Christian Petracca had surgery last night for a lacerated spleen, a punctured lung and four broken ribs.
Petracca went under the knife and stayed in hospital overnight after it was discovered his condition was worst than first thought, following a heavy hit in the loss to Collingwood on Monday.
The injuries threaten to sideline Petracca for months in a major blow to the Demons’ spluttering season.”

That’s one tough cookie.
Not the thread for general commentary but it needs to be said: Wounded as he was, Petracca came back on – presumably after a shot of the jungle juice and some bandaging. Yet armchair critics will continue to call players, who put their bodies on the line each week, ‘soft’. Get well soon, Tracc!
Gulp that is tough no matter what juice they gave him. Totally agree with you.
He’s the new Dipper……
Gulp, I disagree. I think most people, any fair minded person anyway, watching this game would have thought that the medical and coaching staff should have overruled him, and sent him to hospital as soon as he came off.
Totally agree. Wasn’t the point of my comment…
Port Adelaide: Chad Cornes with an update on Connor Rozee and Willie Rioli’s availability:
“I’m pretty sure Connor (Rozee) will play. Willie (Rioli) will have to get through a few more training sessions throughout the week so he’s no certainty.”
WCE: Zane Trew and Clay Hall were both cited by the MRP in Saturday’s WAFL game against Subiaco.
Zane Trew and Clay Hall will both be free to play following the bye after the Match Review Panel’s findings from Saturday’s 65-point loss to Subiaco at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
Hall was reported for engaging in rough conduct, and after viewing all of the available evidence, the Match Review Panel withdrew the charge.
Trew was reported for striking his opponent, with a base sanction of a one-match ban, reduced to a reprimand for an Early Guilty Plea.
Western Bulldogs: Ed Richards and Cody Weightman will both be tested at training this week.
“Ed didn’t quite tick every box that we needed him to within our return to play protocol following his concussion,” Chris Bell, Head of Sports Medicine at the Bulldogs, said.
“Ed will look to fully train tomorrow, with us optimistic that he will be in line to return to availability this week.
“Cody has been the ultimate professional in his rehabilitation following his elbow reconstruction. He has been dedicated and left no stone unturned to accelerate his recovery following his elbow surgery.
“His surgeon couldn’t be happier with his progress and last week has cleared him to return to full contact.
“We will work through a process with Cody across this week to confirm his availability.”
Western Bulldogs: Alex Keath will be sidelined for the next 5-7 weeks. after suffering a hamstring injury in the AFL match against Brisbane.
St Kilda: Dougal Howard will be sidelined for the next month. Scans have confirmed a hamstring strain
Just on Tracca, how do medical doctors allow a player with (4) broken ribs back onto the field. ?????
Going back on the ground could have worsened the injury, eg cracks – breaks – puncturing and ruptures. He was physically contacted again after returning to the field.
He may have told the medical staff it knocked the wind out of him…….
Adelaide: Luke Nankervis is the round 13 AFL Rising Star nominee
Adelaide: Izak Rankine: He’s touch and go (to play), we have main session tomorrow so they’ll put him through his paces tomorrow, so unless there’s any setbacks he’ll be out there.

Hi All,
Broad trade question. Currently ranked 7,714 O/A (just outside top 4%).
If playing for overall rank and not necessarily leagues, at what point in the season should I be looking at PODs?
For example, Sheezel. Proven scorer, owned by over 90% of coaches in the top 5%. I don’t have him (traded out R9, shit idea in the end). Should I be bringing him in as an anti-POD to limit the damage of not having him. Or do I pivot to someone Like Yeo/Ridley/Holmes who are similarly priced and almost score as well as Sheezel but have much lower ownership in the Top tier of coaches?
Sorry it’s not a TU/TD question, but I’d be grateful for peoples thoughts.
Cheers,
Wayne
Wayne, congrats on the season so far.
Think if it’s just overall rank you do need to pivot. Your best chance of making up 1,000’s of places would be to select Ridley, and hope that at some point Sheezel is tagged or gets injured.
That said I am in no position to provide advice with a team ranked around 20k and playing for league wins.
Thanks Donavan,
I appreciate you taking the time to reply. 20k ranking is not shabby at all! Good luck for the rest of the year, may the SC gods shine upon you 🙂

From one Wayne to another, given the options suggested, YEO…….
……. But wait 2 weeks…..
Thanks for the recommendation Chameleon
Gold Coast: Will Graham has secured a new two-year deal.
Collingwood: Nick Daicos is no certainty to play in Round 13, ahead of their Round 14 bye due to two corks in his shin.
“Nick Daicos was subbed out of Collingwood’s Round 13 match against Melbourne on Monday after getting two separate corks to both sides of his shin.
“The 21-year-old received a knock to his shin in the first quarter and then received another to the other side in the third quarter. Daicos was unable to take off running so was subbed out for the remainder of the match.
“He has since responded well and has started some jumping in the pool and on the gymnastics floor. He is expected to complete some training at the back end of the week which will determine his availability for Sunday’s game.”
Collingwood: Mason Cox is still 5-7 weeks away from returning due to an MCL injury.
Nathan Kreuger’s job security seems more secure with this update.
North Melbourne: Colby McKercher.
“Last week was an important week for Colby in getting progressive loading on-field, pulling up well and transitioning from runners to football boots across the weekend. He had a strong footy conditioning session on Tuesday and will look to join in training Friday, plus another strong loading day on Sunday.”
North’s head of performance Kevin White
Fremantle: Justin Longmuir hinted that Hayden Young could tag Marcus Bontempelli this week.
“Youngy is our man for that, I feel like he can nullify the opposition or quell the opposition’s influence at times and then win a bit of the ball himself.
“He’s got a good balance in his game, whether that’s against Bont this week or if we just go head-to-head, we haven’t really worked out yet.”
St Kilda: Confirmed debut for Arie Schoenmaker (DEF $117 k) following Dougal Howard’s hamstring injury.
He went with pick 62 in the 2023 AFL Draft and is a 194cm key defender, who had 26 disposals and 6 marks a fortnight ago in the VFL.
A nod to thebopper who suggested this possibility.
Good call.
Anybody like me and wants Sts to name Hugo Garcia. Thought he was playing well enough anyway- but 3 goals and 7 tackles should get you noticed.
A caution for people who want to go early on him. Cordy is the replacement for Howard, Ari is in for Nas/Webster who are out this week short term, so I’m not confident in his job security
Strange but true post for the week!
Melbourne runner Reece Conca has been sent a please explain from the AFL
“He was spotted by AFL officials calling for the ball during play in a match against St Kilda, momentarily forgetting he was no longer a player.”

St Kilda: Brad Crouch.
He left the track in discomfort today and won’t play at any level this weekend – likely longer due to his persistent knee injury.
St Kilda: Jimmy Webster to have calf scans
St Kilda: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera didn’t train today.
Tom Morris reporting on footy classified tonight that Petracca a big chance to miss the rest of the season.
