Poll: Cash Or Warm Bodies

Written by The Salamander on May 13 2021

Stewy_The_Swan posed an interesting question in this week’s Polling Station thread: given the impending byes, is it better to trade out fattened cows for cash, or to swap out non-playing rookies for playing ones?

Without the byes to contend with, this would be an easy question to answer. But with many coaches often struggling to field 18 players in each of those three rounds, there’s a case to be made for getting in as many warm bodies as possible.

Would you rather trade out fattened cows for the cash, or non-playing rookies for the warm bodies?

If you’re having trouble working out how to navigate the byes, be sure to take a look at Macca’s excellent bye planner, and at the numerous good articles written on the subject here on SCT.

  1. I’m on track to have 20 players available for each bye. So far, it has not compromised my ideal selections.

    Currently:
    Rd 12 – 8 not playing
    Rd 13 – 11 not playing
    Rd 14 – 11 not playing

    1. Wow R-R, so impressed, I’ve got 6 blokes on my bench not playing so am only going warm bodies and targeting finals once overall isn’t achievable. What does your team look like?

  2. Need to be careful with bye planning. The important thing is how many WILL be playing…not how many have each bye. Warm bodies most important

    1. yep use the line on the bye planner that asks “is this player playing” – if not, choose no and he is excluded from the numbers.

I will plan on doing another version update after this weekend if I can, so that everyone will have at least current prices and averages etc after round 9 complete!

Thanks for the shout out too Sal!!

  3. Thanks Stewy for a very interesting Poll.

I have slightly different Bye structure to most teams.
I’m still heavy in R14 but I’m also heavy early in R12 and quite light on R13.
This week I trade in Poulter and RDC.
$445k banked for double up next week.

    Premo’s + Warm Rookies / possible trade * injured/dead rookies.**

    Missing in…

    R12
    Stewart
    Jiath
    Powell
    Ziebell
    Impey
    Kosi*
    L Jones**
    Brockman**
    Flynn*
    Saunders.Loop.

    R13
    Short
    Bont
    Walsh
    Zorko
    Scott*
    RCD*
    Saunders

    R14
    Mills
    Laird
    Steele
    Brayshaw
    Crouch
    Gawn
    Grundy
    Jordan*
    Warner*
    Gulden*
    Poulter*
    Rowe*
    Saunders.

My plan next week, is to turn two of Gulden, Kosi or Rowe into
two of Ridley Titch , Dusty or Dale.

This should help even things out a little.
Warner may go sooner but he and Jordan, and maybe even B Crouch could be flipped to make 18+ in R14.

Powell and Jiath will be last upgrades post Byes.

Its going to be tight but I think I will make it.

I’m hoping L Jones, Highmore or Brockman, can bob up sometime during the Byes, every warm body counts.

Thanks again for a great poll.

  4. I’m screwed. So many non playing rookies, used too many trades on injuries. My plan is to build my premos and “wing and prayer” for the bye rounds. Hopefully I can jag a few wins and stay in touch in my league.

  5. Not in the hunt for overall after about round four and like most years i am prepared to throw one of the byes and four points to enable my chances in cash leagues.

  6. A lot of players get given an extra rest by their clubs the week before or the week after their bye.
Danger, Gawn, Ryder, are all likely this year plus Dusty, Selwood, Oliver
