Poll: Traps or Treasures

With the conclusion of the AAMI Series we like to think we have a handle on some of the justifications we use to make the final selections. Mostly, we give our Premos some leeway if they don’t score well using all the rationality at our disposal eg. giving someone else a piece of their role for for a final selection chance, time managed or resting in a different position. This is fair enough as FD says, they will revert to their norms in the real stuff.

The ones who throw up the curve balls by scoring out of their “proverbial” are the ones who throw a spanner in the thought process and make people take a risk in most cases. It could be a role change, a potential breakout or even someone who passes your eye test in the trial games. Either way, you go wow 139 points, and only $288k, that could be worth a go. Could it ?

I’ve put together a small list I think fits into this category for your consideration. A simple yes/no/maybe poll to indicate for the site the percentages that may or may not help each other in their decision making.

Buku Khamis D/F $288,000 – 139 pts: Maturing, assured and seemingly more confident. Defended as well as launched attacks. DPP, consider James Leake D/F on the bench at the other end for bye coverage. What do you think? Trap, Treasure, Consider.

LDU M $526,900 – 120 pts: Already a premo but has teased so much, has burnt so much but looked better in the two trials than he has in the past. Racked up 34 but got caught a couple of times and wasted some disposals which could indicate some pretty hefty upside potentially.

Caleb Windsor D $283,300 – 121 pts. Played in the guts and looked so good. Calculated points only but did pick up 15 possessions in a half and was everywhere. With so many good options down back is he in your considerations?

Ryley Sanders M/F $381,100 – 102 pts. Awkward priced but with DPP. Passed the eye test better than previous years playing mainly out of the back half and collected 26 pretty effective disposals.

Elijah Hollands F $277,100 – 103 pts. 19 quality possessions and a couple of snags to raise thee bat. Will the reward of a new contract be the light bulb moment for a pretty talented player?

Tanner Bruhn M $276,800 – 96 pts. New role of half back, 71% game time and a lazy 27 disposals. Ran all over the place and provided options a plenty for the Cats. Is he back and worth a punt at that price?

Murphy Reid F $376,600 – 102 pts.  Looked decidedly  good for a second year player, although a against a seriously depleted Crow’s outfit. Ran through the midfield and created option after option. Pricey but could he maintain this level with a midfield role

Tristian Xerri R $687,300 – 84 pts. Not in here because he over performed but more because he underwhelmed for a man of his price. Have the ruck rules affected him, or is he just easing into the season proper. Being faded at a rate currently, are we overreacting?

Darcy Parish M $334,600 – 76 pts. Looked good in the trial but not so much in the AAMI as the Saints dominated on the scoreboard and the SC chart. Had 21 but efficiency not great. Is an average score enough to scare you, or is he still value ?

Cooper Lord M $324,200 – 98 pts. Put this bloke in here as he seems to score like Bont from fewer possessions. Only had 18 on the game but still pulls out 98. Awkward price, but does anyone else see this from him?

Thanks for reading. First post back after a little forced lay off but should be good to crank it up from here.

Will whip up another poll on the rookies/cheapies who scored well and try and determine if they are also Trap or Treasure. Keep an eye out.

  1. I really like the look of Cooper Lord, but he’s fighting an uphill battle for major mid minutes in that rotation. If he was $75k cheaper I’d strongly consider.
