Polling Station – Round 4

Written by The Salamander on April 5 2021

Round 3’s not quite over yet, but with a short turnaround this week, it’s time to start thinking ahead.

Got a poll you’d like to see on SCT? Just suggest your poll in the comments below, and if the community deems it worthwhile, we’ll have that poll. Easy!

Unlike our more usual TU/TD threads, the thumbs here are for indicating whether or not you think a particular proposed poll is worth having, not voting in said poll.

So, what polls would you like to see over the coming days and weeks? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. What to do with Hayden Young? He is held by almost 20% of teams and he did his hamstring this weekend. I assume many coaches will be unsure whether to downgrade him to a rookie or try and sideways trade him, but then who would be viable?

    1. Nato.

      Re.. H Young.

I’m pretty sure it was just a bad corkie. He had a collision with Casbolt on the wing and came off limping.

I still think he maybe worth trading. The 19 in price cycle is going to mean he starts to lose money. Not something you want from a “cow like object”.

I’m looking to upgrade him, as I ditched Neale before this round.
Ridley is favourite at this stage.

I may look at Dow to Waterman ( a week early) I just can’t stand the look of him in my side. 😉

    1. He’s still got massive $ to make, but he can’t keep gong like this. To bring him in now will almost certainly mean an exit trade later.

  2. I would wager many people may be thinking:

“Should I still consider keeping / trading Neale after his big price drop?”

There’s definitely still a case for both keeping and trading him.

    1. If you held Neale last week, then hold him this week for sure no doubt. He will come good, still a top 8 mid no doubt.

      1. I’m wondering why you say ‘no doubt’? When healthy absolutely but it’s been confirmed he’s not healthy and if it was preseason games right now he wouldn’t be playing. Fagan said post-match that Neale could have sat this week to try to be in better nick for the Western Bulldogs match but wanted to play through it and in seperate comments Neale said it felt fine but got worse in the second half which is why he spent a lot of time forward, so there’s obviously some sort of lingering issue for him here.

So what we have is the most expensive player in Supercoach having had an interrupted preseason due to injury to calf, has been slow out of the gates, and is now confirmed to have a back injury which may or may not cause him to miss games in the future but is all but guaranteed to be affecting his performance right now.
If going for overall I think you have to trade him. Even though it means potentially burning 2 trades to bring him back in later when/if healthy the fact is he’s not healthy right now and he’s not going to score at his usual level when he’s not 100%. The amount of points you’re leaving on the table during this period where he is playing hurt all but guarantees you’re going to fall behind the pack for teams that have traded him out/didn’t start with him.

I think if you’re going for leagues there’s an argument for keeping him but it depends on how competitive the league is and whether or not you think you can put 100K to better use right now.

Personally I have him and am absolutely spewing that I didn’t trade him last round but will be doing so this round. If the Fagan and Neale comments about his back were publicised on Wednesday he would’ve been gone Thursday morning.

    2. I would be tempted to cut my losses and trade him with the back injury story going around.

Its definitely a tough one though. I’m just thankful i swapped him before the season started for Macrae

  4. Does Hurn have the legs to go at the pace he has set for the full season or run out of gas at seasons end?

2018 and 2019 were great years though 2020 was hard for Hurn. The new kick out rules favor him for a higher average, so is he top 6?
