Polls: Trade Targets

Written by The Salamander on June 9 2021

With six clubs having just had their bye, coaches will be looking to try and get players from those clubs into their teams this week.

But who are the best choices?

LEGEND: Player Name (Other Position) (Club, Price, Average)

Defenders – pick up to 3.

I’ve left Cam Guthrie ($609,900) off the midfield poll, because he isn’t going to be playing this week.

Midfielders – pick up to 4

Apart from Todd Goldstein ($504,600), it’s slim pickings in the ruck, so there’s no real point having a poll for that line. Goldstein is an excellent option if you need a ruck, though.

Moving on to the forward line, I’ve left Jack Ziebell ($534,600) off the list, as he’s in over 60 percent of teams already, but if you haven’t got him, he’s an obvious choice.

Forwards – pick up to 3

  1. Trent Bianco and Callum Coleman-Jones don’t have their byes this week and I am confident they both will play.

  2. For those who like to gamble and are masochists Ben Cunnington should be very tempting. He’s the ultimate boom/bust pick from the players who have had their bye already. Recent SC form is massive as he’s been more boom than bust with a 3 round average of 129 and 3 out of his last 5 are 130+.

    1. Matt Rowell – “He’s ready, he’s absolutely ready. Physically his body is better prepared than it was leading into R1. In some sense he’s probably fitter than he was leading into the season.” Stuart Dew

Breakeven of 197 so plenty of time to evaluate his form.

  3. Dangerfield in 2 weeks is who I’m holding out for for my last FWD slot

However Kyle Langford provides potentially great value with his minutes in the midfield recently.

    1. If Whitfield can stay fit he’s definitely the right choice.

Can’t really go wrong with either though unless a bit of luck goes the wrong way and one goes down with injury.

    2. If you’re fielding a rookie, the answer is Hall as he holds far greater marginal positional value.

      E.g. Hall + L Jones def. Whitfield + Waterman

      1. I’m sorry but we really need an article on marginal positional value because every time I comment about it, people disagree.

It’s not an opinion, it’s an objective measurement. Hall & L Jones in *every scenario* beats Whitfield + Waterman.

It’s only if you have Weightman (assuming Poulter is in MIDs) where Whitfield provides a superior alternative.

    1. And given Port’s generally small defence, he often has to play an accountable role at 191 cm. He’s quite good 1 on 1.

Eg. this week he’s named on Hawkins. Might end up switching match-ups with Aliir, but will then still have to handle Rohan or even Cameron if Jonas (8 cm shorter than Cameron) can’t handle him.

  4. ***WARNING POSSIBLE PENDING INJURY***

Callan Ward……compare his last 3 games stats to the other GWS guys mentioned above…….
