  1. Hi All, currently have the following team. Been tossing up what players to start in the backline and finally think I’m happy with the structure. Let me know your thoughts!

DEF: Sheezel, Clark, Roberts, Perryman, Paton, Leake (Reid, Trainor)

MID: Daicos, Serong, Merrett, Dawson, Oliver, FOS, Tsatas, L. Ashcroft (Knevitt, Camporeale, Boxshall)

    RUC: Gawn, Xerri (Boyd)

FWD: JHF, Macrae, Smith, Daniel, Kako, Davidson (Stone, Hall)

    Flex: Hewett

    • This is a really solid team for previous years but the depth in that midfield does kind of hurt the backline. Still looks good though

  2. This is my current team. Please rip it to shreds. Any advice is welcome. I’m not sold on Lynch but I can’t afford anyone else like a FOS and I think he should be able to have some big scores. If he scores low then the flex will cover him.
Def: Sheezel, Clark, NWM, Roberts, Perryman, Reid (Paton, Trainor)

Mid: Serong, Rozee, Oliver, Cerra, Daniel, NOD, Tsatas, L. Ashcroft (Knevitt, Boxshall, Camporeale)

  3. Hey guys, going very mid price this year compared to my typical GnR team. Plan is to be super aggressive with trades early on, with the flex taking away the fear of donuts. Thanks 🙂

DEF: Sheezel, Short, Robert’s, Perryman, Bowey, Sinn/Logue (Allan, Reid)

MID: Serong, Oliver, Callaghan, Cerra, Ashcroft, FOS, NOD, Tsatas (Ashcroft, Knievitt, Kako)

  4. I think I have finally found something that I’m happy with. Not completely sold on 2 defensive rookies on field but it allows me to have Gawn and Rankine.

    Defence
Sheezel Clark short Roberts prior Reid (Leake trainor)

Sheezel has been a lock since day 1 I have no idea where I threw the keys. The next 3 blokes they want the ball in their hands as much as possible. The rest is rookie roulette

    Midfield
Serong LDU Oliver cerra callaghan o’Driscoll tsatas knevitt
    (hewett camporeale boxshall)

Love serong as a player he might cop a tag every now and again but not bothered. LDU scares me cause he could get injured at any point but dogs round 1 could be a nice score. Oliver will be a top 8 mid. Can’t not have Callaghan with a 144 in his system. Rookies all look like they will play round 1

    Rucks
    Gawn Xerri (Boyd)

    Locked away for the year.

    Forwards
JHF Rankine macrae daniel SPP Davidson
    (Paton stone)

I think I have here F1-4 at the end of the season and then a few guys that should make me some extra dollars.

TU – wait till after his bye to get him

  6. Alrighty, here we go ladies and gentlemen:

Backs: Sheezel, Clark, Roberts, Perryman, Allan, Reid EM: Leake & Busslinger

Mids: Neale, Zerret, Brayshaw, Oliver, Callaghan, Tsatas, Lashcroft, Knevitt EM: Hewitt, Campers, Boxshall

Rucks: Gawn & TDK EM: Boyd

Forwards: JHF, Rankine, Macrae, Daniel, Kako, Paton EM: Stone & Davidson

    Flex: Flynn

    Spare: $11k

Backs speak for themselves. Backing in Bo Allan to get a lot of the pill and use it better than preseason.

As a Dons man, surprised not as much love for Zerett. He’ll get plenty of it. Dont be scared by preseason. Callaghan is a jet. Brownlow Smokey if he keeps kicking snags.

Gawn soreness seems overkill. Rankine to go next level as mid / forward.

Anyway, feel free to give me the good bad and ugly of it.

For final 2 mids thinking Naicos and Garcia OR Day and W. Ashcroft
TU: Naicos & Garcia (with forward/mid flexibility)
TD: Day & Washcroft and wait for Naics to drop in price?

  11. Firstly, obviously all rookies are subject to change depending on teams.

In regards to the rest, im trying to pick a couple of premo’s that have lower own % this year because in previous years I have been too cookie cutter and it hasn’t worked.

I like the new role for J.Daicos and his low own %, plus when he gets DPP i can flick him down back and pickup a premo or mid pricer iv missed.

I was also thinking of turning TDK into Meek for another POD but not 100% sold as i don’t know too much about either of them so iv just followed the herd with TDK for now.

Iv also chosen Garcia as FLEX as i like the flexibility of his DPP in that position, might come in handy compared to a Flynn who is ruck only.

    Thoughts? All feedback welcome.

  13. TU- NWM, Lynch, SPP
    TD- W. Ashcroft, Sanders, Leake

Option 1 gives me a stronger backline whereas option 2 means I will have to field Paton and Reid with Leake on the bench. However, Option 2 does give me a much stronger forward line (JHF, Rankine, Macrae, Daniel, Sanders) and only 3 on field rookies in my mids .

  14. final tweaks needed.

D5, M5 and F6 is my only real problem.

    D5 – Perryman, or
    M5 – Peatling, or
    F5 – Sanders

I like that Sanders should have a good crack in the midfield while Trelor and Bont are out, but if i don’t start with him i have Davidson to come on field at F6 which isn’t a problem.

Peatling was in my team until i brought both Rankine and Dawson in after their impressive games in the AAMI. Too many crows in team? and will Peatling get pushed out of the guts and play 4th banana behind Dawson, Crouch and Rankine?

I have finally put Sheezel into my team, meaning less money in defence.

Perryman is more expensive than Sanders and Peatling and this would mean having to go with cheaper rookies in the midfield (Reid (freo) on field instead of NOD). I liked his role last week, plenty of midfield time, but only managed 90pts. He also has an early bye.

    any thoughts?

    • I’ve gone off peatling, too many in that midfield for me, I don’t know how they will fit them all tbh. Sanders I’m not a huge fan of either especially if Treloar is back round 2, at the same time though he could smash out some 90’s with some of the things heard from his teammates.

      • Definitely agree with Peatling and I agree that Perryman is probably safer than Sanders but I’d say the argument is between those two. Perryman and Reid or Sanders and NOD would make me lean to the second option if that’s what Derek is tossing up

    • who is your Flex?

I’ve thought about Ashcroft, but i can’t see him averaging over 100 as the 3rd midfielder at the Lions (same with Day, not sure he can average over 100 being the 4th midfielder at the hawks). at that price you almost want him to average 105 to be a good pick.

      • Flynn Flex oops!

I think will can average 105 as that 3rd Banana he averaged 107 in his last 7 games including finals last year. he’s only going to get better coming of that injury. if he fails he can be a dump after his easy early fixturing. toyed with an extra premo down back but can’t make it work so I think I’ll take the punt on Ashcroft.

Plan is to drop either roberts or short for F.Callaghan after his bye if he still tracks well this week, like him a lot more the W.Day. This avoids byes and I get one week of cash gen. Also going to be watching Gawn play with one eye shut with his juicy early run, hoping he doesnt burn me too much but I cant find the cash.

    R: Gawn, TDK (Reidy)
F: JHF, Rankine, Macrae, Finlayson, Daniel, Kako (Davidson, Paton)

    Plans:
    1) If Callaghan goes big round 1, sideways him in after the bye for worst performing mid.
    2) Zorko to Daicos once DPP’s drop. I like Zorkos early draw but dont trust him for a full season.
    3) Flynn will be a sideways or down to a rookie if he gets injured early
    4) Trade in any top-10 mids as they bottom out in price early on.

      • I have had him in my team virtually all preseason. But his durability is becoming a concern. The argument that the ball will live in the Tigers back half has been a good prompt for us all. But Tigers were wooden spooners last year but we didn’t see great numbers from Short. Rioli leaving is also a prompt for more kickins and more outlet traffic being directed through Short. For me the Short pick was always a stepping stone. If 105 is the minimum for a keeper in defence, then I couldn’t see Short going better than 90-95. Still some value.
I like Freijah more than Short. The 72k in price means he only needs to average around 14 points less than Short to generate the same amount of cash. I think he can go 80+. Of course then the test is to use the 72k wisely to generate the difference in points on field. I am hoping that is Sanders v Garcia.

    Flex: R. Sanders

    Weighing up a few decisions:

    – Leaning Gawn over Xerri with the favourable early fixtures. Plan would be to bring in Xerri after his bye in round 12 which is already shaping to be the most difficult bye to navigate.

    – Short v Perryman; Short avoids the early bye but has never averaged 100 in his career. Is Perryman the real deal though?

    – Have Cerra at the moment but could become Will Day. I like that Cerra avoids the early bye and has had a fully fit pre season.

    – Liking the idea of Sanders in the flex as he holds DPP.

    – Rookies of course subject to change with team selections pending.

    Thoughts/Opinions appreciated really appreciated!

  32. Can someone give me an insight into why people are so keen on Will Day? Has plenty of talent but I think there could be a better option at a very similar price..

    – Kicked 3 goals and had 6 free kicks for on Friday night which is not sustainable.

    – Will now get more attention and has struggled with it in the past.

    – Faces gws in round 3 (Bedford tag)

    – Has the early bye in round 4

For a similar price I am leaning towards Adam cerra who has proven he can average 105+ in the past. Thoughts appreciated!

    • Last year:
I’m removing the Blues game (niggle + tagged), Tigers (got injured), Swans and Dogs games (he was very much finding his footing these two games, think it’s unfair to judge him in those two).

Leaves us with the 12 game stretch he had last season. 107 average (including a Bedford tagged 53)

Regarding his second half vs the Swans.
He scored 34 points in the second half. (Had 45% TOG in the third qtr). And still matched the same amount of disposal’s Newcombe had in the 2nd half despite dealing with both a hard tag and cramping. Round it up to 40 due to the TOG, and times it by two and an 80 with a hard tag is a pass. Especially factoring in that’s when the rain kicked in and the Swans upper their pressure.

Finally, Day is Priced at 91:
      He does (IMO):
      120 v Dons
      105 v Blues
      80 v Giants
      Bye (80 to cover him)
      AVG of 96.25
So you’re getting 5.25 points on his priced average and then he goes into a cherry ripe fixture run where I expect him to put up some serious numbers. He also doesn’t have the Swans or Jordon again, likewise with Bedford after the R4 game.

I’m not personally starting him due to structure and other players I’ve been on all PS, but I’ll most likely be grabbing him after the bye before he really rockets up in price.

      • I had another higher priced rookie in midfield (odriscoll) but thought it was a waste to have a rookie over 140k sitting on bench so downgraded him to Hall (which also opens up the mid/fwd swing), also changed bo Allan to aidan johnson (via patton swing) which freed up more coin. Felt like my original team had too many higher priced rookies.

Yes I know that we have byes, But I dont trust the ruck rookies, So might as well get the extra points and correct to a playing ruck later on if needed.

  37. I think this may be my finalized side

DEF – Sheezel, Zorko, Roberts, Perryman, Paton, Leake (Reid, Trainor)
MID – Neale, Serong, Rozee, Day, Oliver, Lalor, Tsatas, Ashcroft (Knevitt, Erasmus, Boxshall)
    RUC – Xerri, TDK (Boyd)
FWD – JHF, Macrae, Smith, Daniel, SPP, Davidson (Kako, Hewett)
    FLEX – Flynn

    $17,500 ITB

Sheezel always a lock and Zorko looks to continue his form from last year, based off what he’s done in the pre-season games. Roberts looks to be a breakout, as will Perryman in his new midfield role. Paton and Leake look to have good JS, Reid should too as long as he stays fit. Trainor looks like he’ll have a bright future, but will be interested to see his JS chances are like when Balta and Gibcus return.

M1 started as Bont, then Daicos and now its Neale. Serong was always my M2, will be solid again this year. Rozee should thrive without Butters, and hopefully maintains good enough form when he comes back. Day looks to be a breakout, just need to stay fit. Oliver should be back to form this year, dominated the opposition during the pre-season. Choosing my three onfield rookies was difficult. Lalor being confirmed to play this week made it even more harder. Even though the Tiges are in for a long year, he looks to already be one of their best this year. Tsatas and Ashcroft look to be the most consistent out of the other top rookie priced players. I’m confident enough that at least two of the bench mids have decent JS

Xerri and TDK, never changed since I first filled in my side. Boyd looks okay, but if he falls early he’ll prove to be a good loophole

JHF, Macrae, Smith and Macrae I’ve had since the start, and they all look fantastic. F5 I’d mostly been going back and forth between SPP and Garcia. I personally believe both will average around 70-75, so I’ll with the cheaper guy. Davidson looks very promising, as does Kako. Hewett might miss this week, but he should be only out for this week. He’ll be a gun rookie, so no need to leave him out if he’s only gone for a week or two.

Flynn looks good as the main big guy. Like Reid and Day, just needs to not get injured. At least though if anything goes wrong with Flynn early, it’s an easy fix.

      • Thanks Abs, not much is it? And he’s def capable of doing that.
My concern with not starting him is that we will have to find the funds to get all three of Bont, Butters and N.Daicos in and none will drop much below 600K. Maybe $550 if we’re lucky.
Coupling that with the fact we all have expensive rookies who will often be slow burners makes me think finding the cash to get these Ubers might be harder than ever.

        • Definitely not much of a drop at all. That GWS score only effecting his price for a single game definitely doesn’t do much damage.

Definitely valid picking Daicos, I wasn’t ever on him, but if I was I wouldn’t have let the game or score sway me (especially now that they’re saying it was only cramp he was battling).

    Basically comes down to Rankine v Day;

Rankine avoids the early bye out of the two and is more likely imo to be a keeper considering he is a forward, however would I be committing with too many forwards early in the season incase others get DPP like Warner/Trac??

Currently have: JHF, Macrae, Smith & Daniel as my other ‘keepers’.

Thoughts on this one would be really appreciated!!

I feel slightly uncomfortable about the lighter backline as the rookies are bad but Prior and Reid should hold worst case scenario (can any bombers fans confirm or deny their JS for me). Im fading Baz as moving on from Daicos allowed me to upgrade to Rankine. Ashcroft and Cerra have good fixtures whilst Sanders has the potential with the depleted midfield. Would love any feedback.

    • Who are you counting as playing in round 12? Are there lots of rookies/value options that will be traded by then?

I would be looking at making sure you don’t have more than 7 keepers for that round. That gives you 24 other sports to get your 18 players playing.

  45. Hi SCT Team, any chance of getting some polls up before the end of the week? Some suggestions :
Now that your team is close to finalized (barring team selections for rookies) –
    – how many 600K+ players do you have in your team?
    – how many rookies will you be starting on the field?
    – how many mid priced players do you have ($300K – $500K)?
    – Have the Round 2 – 4 bye rounds impacted your decision when selecting your starting players (ie – choosing not to start with premiums from GCS, GWS, Coll, Syd, Ess & Hawks)?
    – What position is your Plex player?
    – How much cash in bank do you anticipate having at the commencement of R1?

I do love a poll, especially as we all look towards finalizing our teams and deciding on how best to maximize scoring potential; more rookies for cash growth or more mid pricers hopefully to take the next step in becoming a must have?

Chopped and changed plenty but always seem to come back to this structure. Having the 2 defensive rookies on field doesn’t sit great but can’t seem to find a way out without compromising somewhere else.

  47. I’m a little surprised theres been basically a universal movement to drop Naicos. Obviously the 66 isnt great but he did cop the Bedford tag so we weren’t expecting 130+. And I do think the cramping stuff is a little overblown, Day and Whitfield also cramped, and in the first half he still had 18 odd touches so he found the ball absolutely fine. Realistically even if he did have another stinker rookies will not have fattened enough to upgrade to him so when are you realistically expecting to bring him in? He doesn’t have Jordon till round 5 so you could be waiting 7 or so weeks before he MAYBE drops in price enough to justify the fade. Just think it was a bloody hot day up in sydney so cramping is normal and with Port and Doggies to come (scored 133 and 156 against resperctively last szn) I think he’s too scary a fade. What am I missing?

      • Abs pointed out earlier that if he gets 120 against both the Dogs and Port he’ll only come down about 20K.
And we still have to find funds to get Bont and Butters who won’t come down much either.

    • Agree on this, if he scores well vs Port and Dogs, his price drop won’t be significant enough to justify not starting with him. It eats up a trade (or 2 or 3, really) and it’s unlikely you’ll have enough cash gen from rookies at such an early point.

My slight concern was not leaving enough space for potential DPP forwards that may arise such as Warner or Petracca.

However my plan is to trade out the likes of Sanders for Daicos early on and possibly Bailey smith once they make a decent amount $$. This should still leave enough room for other forwards if need be.

Going strong Mids has done me well over the years so have gone that way again.

Going light down back, reverse of what most people are going. Happy for the Byes and the Flex to compensate for that weaker defence.

Faded Flynn. Haven’t been able to construct a decent side I am happy with when he is in. If Garcia can match Flynn then thats a win for me.

Will still be tinkering right up to the last bounce on Sunday I’d say.

        • Yeah prob Cerra. Looked good in the Praccy match and has always been able to score well. Just whether if he stays fit which is a risk to all of them really. Hard to compare Perryman and Cerra because the Def line is an complete entity all by itself, whereas the Mids/Fwds can be little more interchangeable.

Sanders I don’t really like because I think even Freijah could steal a few points off him if Bevo runs him thru the mids (was spotted training with the mids group this week apparently if that info is correct?). I’m not really making my judgment call on that with Freijah to select him (just need the extra cash really).

I don’t mind the injury risk, if you start him. Just one trade to get him out.

I didn’t start Yeo, ryan and Zorko last year because of the injury risk and look what happened there.

  53. Really tough to make a defence this year (other than Sheezel). I have had Houston, Ash and Whitfield at different stages but have left them out due to the bye.
The impact the kick-in strategy at Collingwood will have on Houston’s score is a concerning, similar to how Fremantle’s new game plan will impact Ryan’s scoring is concerning.
I’m also concerned having 4 Essendon rookies who will lose a week in cash generation due to the bye and no round 0, do you think this will matter is the long run? Just curious to see if others are not picking them because of this. This is my side atm, other than my defence I’m fairly happy.

Having a weaker fwd line than 90 percent of teams this season means that if the money you have spent elswhere(Petracca, Cripps etc) Dosn’t pay off your way behind. Your basically fielding an extra fwd rookie compare to a mid one in other teams.

I have gone with Gawn over TDK. I’m just worried about TDK’s long term scoring. Gawn also provides a genuine captaincy option every week. Petracca and Oliver’s return to form should also help Gawn’s scoring even more.

I have 5 genuine captain options with this team (Sheezel, Neale, Serong, Gawn and Xerri). You could also say Zorko is another one early in the season.

Who would the top three defensive rookies be?? I also feel a bit thin in the midfield. However I do trust the midfield rookies to perform compared to other positions.

Five deep here, with one of Roberts or Short possibly being a keeper. I just really don’t trust the rookies in defence, and am more than willing to spend a little extra here. Sheezel shouldn’t have to be explained, he’s a genuine gun, and no matter where he plays he’s worth top dollar. I can’t say I’m 100% sold on Clark, purely due to uncertainty on how Freo will operate. St Kilda want the ball in NWM’s hands, and he’s going to be showing everybody why he’s getting million dollar offers.

Look, it’s weak. I’m not going to lie to any of you and pretend I can look at my midfield and have confidence in it, but sacrifices had to be made. Anderson is finally going to learn that footy is footy, no matter if he’s playing at home or away, and thus his scores will reflect that (hopefully). Petracca is just a beautiful, beautiful man, and my blind delusion as a Melbourne supporter has me believing both he and Oliver are all set to return to the top again. I believe all the rookies present are both good enough and secure enough that they should be making money, at least more so than I am with the rookies in other lines.

    RUC: Gawn, Xerri (Boyd)
I will admit, it is a little bit ugly spending so much money on just two players, but I’m greedy. I’ve trialed TDK instead of Gawn, but when I do that, Russell Robertson breaks down my door and berates me for turning my back on our captain. Well, that and also that Gawn is a real possibility for 200 in round 1. I just think with a full midfield around him, an easier fixture, and an optimistic mindset (this one is me), Gawn will be worth the price. Xerri is in my team purely because the thought of everyone owning him BUT me, is genuinely scary.

FWD: Horne-Francis, Rankine, Macrae, Daniel, Garcia, Powell-Pepper (Paton, Davidson)
I’m going to ignore JHF, Macrae, and Daniel, because I really don’t see why they wouldn’t be in every team. Now, Rankine is just a tantalising prospect. The man is a gun, and with news that he’s going to put around the ball more, he’s going to have to be in everyone’s teams at some point during the season. I’m not going to pretend I know a whole lot about Garcia, but from what I’ve read, he’s a tackling machine, and the coach loves him. There’s also the fact that he seems much more likely to maintain a good average than the cheaper rookies some may pick ahead of him.

    FLEX: Flynn
Similar to many teams, cheap, should be scoring well AND making money. Who doesn’t love that!?

I apologise for the long-winded nature of my team reveal, you guys can just pretend to read it and let me know your thoughts if you’d prefer, I’m cool with that.

  63. Hi all, kind of reckon Brayshaw and Dawson will be good, but just swapped them out for Neale and Day. Keen to know your thoughts.
TU Brayshaw and Dawson as keepers
TD Neale and Day (I reckon Day will get injured or not score 148 for a while…so not a keeper)
    Cheers

    • It’s just not fun starting players you have doubts over cause if anything happens you’ll be so annoyed that you didn’t back yourself. Plenty of people will vote Day cause we think he’s gonna be a star but SuperCoach is meant to be fun and your team is more fun if you like the players in it and aren’t begrudgingly having them there

    TD: Midprice Madness

DEF: sheezel Short Roberts Perryman Prior Reid (Trainer Paton)
MID: Neale Brayshaw Oliver Cerra Callaghan NOD Tsatas L.Ashcroft (knevitt camporeale hewett)
    RUCK: Xerri TDK (Boyd)
FWD: JHF Rankine Macrae Daniel SPP Davidson (Kako stone)

    FLEX: Flynn BANK: $193,000

Haven’t seen one “expert” on social media or YT go down the GnR route.. I feel it’s relatively safe to start the big guns with high priced rooks who have the rock solid JS. We can watch the Callaghans cerras Roberts shorts etc for a fortnight and boost into the ones we know look genuine. Rather than trade out of the ones who fail if we start to midprce heavy.. would love a TU/TD on the team of your choice and some discussion

  65. What does everyone think about Tom Stewart. Everyone’s faded him since last year and beint tagged every week. Before that, he was one of the best defenders for years. Thoughts?
