    1. Cracking team WGW – but what are your options looking like if McCartin gets a head knock and Hinge does his shoulder again in the first three rounds?

      1. I guess my hopes would be pinned on a Sinn or O’Driscoll debut – which doesn’t fill me with a huge amount of confidence. I’ve been tempted to try to fit in Chapman but I don’t think he could score well enough to generate enough cash.

Hewett is another cheap option but I refuse to believe that he’s going close to 95.

        Any suggestions?

Also, what are people’s thoughts on skipping Grundy and going Gawn/Darcy?

        1. Wighty offers sage advice on predicting the future with unknowns (e.g. DEF debuts), with something to the effect of:- only bank your current decisions on that which you know for certain. With 35 trades and a full season in front of us, it’s a risky play against dropping one premium from your midfield, ensuring bench cover on every line, and filling up the cash coffers. A better play might be to go deeper with DEF premiums and/or take a punt on one or two of those $270k mid pricers (Chapman, Bowey, or Milera if he gets up for R1). There’s a fair few low price options in the mid & fwd lines to cover it and most notably in your case – it’s as easy as playing Ward on field – he got 120 odd SC pts from about 70% game time on the weekend.

Gawn & Darcy are my rucks, but I’ve hardly seen another team on here with that combo – it’s paying a premium. Awesome player when he’s up, but I’m not a fan of Grundy’s psychological resilience & last year highlighted that he’ll drop his bottom lip at the expense of team fortunes when things aren’t going his way. Love Hodor’s attitude in comparison and I can’t see Gawn fading into the background when he’s the C of a red hot team defending the flag.

    $33.2k sitting in the bank.

Pretty happy with this team overall! Likely will be coming into round 1 with this (baring what rookies are named). Started my SuperCoach journey this year running with a 4-4-2-2, which has changed with the news of Heeney playing more midfield (hopefully!), but if I start to get cold feet coming to R1 I’ll be switching him out for Sicily and running an extra rookie in the forward line.

Another thing I’m debating is whether it’s Rowell or Berry to be M5. Both display high ceilings, both with injury plagued seasons last year. Watched both of them in their practice matches and both passed the eye test, but it’s just is Rowell worth the 75k more? As there’s points to go around in the GC midfield, but not so much at Brisbane, so I’m bloody torn on that one.

    1. Start with Rowell because if you like Berry more its easier to correct down and just bank the cash.

  4. Hey guys
can’t decide on which team to go with Any Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thumbs up for first team or thumbs down for 2nd team. Thanx in advance

    1. It might be easier to just highlight the differences in the team

      1st team
      Chapman
      Steele, (O’Driscall, MacDonald)
      Brodie
      $4,900

      2nd team
      Hewitt
      Parish, (Roberts,TSitas)
      Durdin
      $47,700

If Chapman or Brodie come off as 80+ then the 1st team is the way to go, however may be safer to go with Hewitt as he is more likely to go 80+ but may not do enough to be a keeper.

      2

      0
      1. I’d go team one. If Chapman doesn’t reach 80/400k it’s just a failed rookie correct down and bank the cash or upgrade.

At hewetts price point you really need him to be a keeper. And he has to average 25 points higher then he ever has

  5. Lloyd, Crisp, Whitfield, Hewett, Gibcus, Sinn (O’Driscoll, De Koning)

Macrae, Steele, Oliver, Neale, Berry, JHF, Daicos, Ward (Hollands, MacDonald, Tsitas)

    Grawndy (Hayes)

Dunkley, Butters, Cogs, McGovern, Brodie, Rachele (Durdin, Dixon)

    Only 8k ITB.
Only running with 11 keepers + Hewett feels quite risky. And my bench is very cheap at the moment.
    Any thoughts are much appreciated!

    1
    1. Bench doesnt really matter right now, as everyone will change theirs with round 1 selections. Maybe Mcgovern or Brodie for McCartin could help upgrade Hewett to someone like Sicily if you don’t feel confident on Hewett. Will also free up a bit of cash if you want to correct your bench

        1. Main faults are too cheap FWD rookies and not enough cover across bench lines.

Would ditch one of Martin/Dixon and find a way to get a F/D in your fwd line for the swing. Wether it’s moving one of Kelly/SDK. Finding a non playing 102k option elsewhere ect

          0

          3
          1. Thanks for input. I agree but I’m liking having a fwd/ruc to swing with Hayes-Dixon for a captains loophole if possible. All depends on round 1 picks but will look into it. Thanks and good luck with your team .

            0

            0
            1. Hayes + Dixon will both play at the start of the season because West Coast/Saints are decimated. But also both are playing FWD on bad teams who won’t see the ball/score highly.

If you want a loophole you likely won’t find one there. Hayes is more likely then Dixon when Ryder gets back… whenever that is

              2

              2
    1. The one glaring fault is you say ‘last one before round 1’ and this is before the surprise omissions/injuries, etc… that plague being a SUPERCOACH GENIUS!
Good Luck to everyone- it’s getting close!

    2. Only reason I’ve given it a thumbs down is both Ryan & Whitfield just cannot play a full season.

      3

      1
      1. True. I was tossing up between Ryan and Ridley and Ryan has less ownership (obviously coz hes an injury threat) and Whitfield is with extra trades I’m hoping he just makes some quick cash for me. Appreciate all comments. Cheers

  8. Is anyone considering tim Kelly?
TU – yes could be a pod and have a good season
TD – stop talking nonsense Charlie

    8

    16
    1. Around the same price, we have players like Cripps, Serong, De Goey, Thomas, and if we go lower we have players like Rowell, Hewett and berry, who should score around 80-90 for 50-200k less than Kelly.

Unless you see Kelly scoring around 100-105 then I would look at one of these guys. if you see him scoring in that range then he could be a good POD pick, especially with all the injuries the eagles have atm

      2

      1
  9. Last question. One of these guys has to leave the squad which one stays?
    TU – Steele
    TD – Oliver

    19

    8
    1. I would say Steele, solely because he is probably going to be a harder upgrade target later on, because he is so consistent, while Oliver could dip to around 600k after a few poor games.

But if one suits your bye structure way better then go for them

      2

      1
      1. i have the exact question.

to tried to split them by looking to see who plays DeBore first.

happens to be Oliver in Round 5, but then Steele gets him round 6.

Steele has the Round 12 bye, Oliver is round 14.

  10. T/U – Short (D3), Xerri (F5), McCartin (D6)
    T/D – Lloyd (D1), Sinn (D6), Mccartin (F6)

Basically Xerri and Short vs Lloyd and Sinn. This is done through Mccartin DPP

I see Lloyd getting 115, Sinn around 70 if he plays well, plus 175k cash gen. This is 185 with 175k cash gen

Short should get around 105, and xerri hopefully 80-90 with around 150k cash gen. This is 195 with 150k cash gen. Xerri probably has more upside than Sinn, but wont make as much cash

    16

    3
      1. This is all assuming he plays. But by the looks of the thumbs up, doesn’t matter.

        1

        1
        1. Think that’s just most assuming he won’t play.

Also the upside of starting with Xerri is if he gets off to a slow start and Sinn is good you can do the swap and use the cash elsewhere. Short looks good to be a top 10 defender and won’t let you down.

          2

          2
  11. Better option to play rd 1.
    T/U – O’Driscoll
    T/D – Mead
    Comment – Cooper Stephens

    3
      1. Cripps has average 110+ 3 seasons in the past
could technically be viewed as a fallen premium if he’s not injured like his was all last year
can easily switch to a treloar/heeney/serong type if doesn’t fire early

more concerned if Rowell gets injured as no good options around $350k

        1

        1
    1. Arent many good cheap mid rookies that look like they will play rd 1, so I would go Cripps and Rowell

      2

  12. Def: Lloyd, Short, Whitfield, Sicily,
    Gibcus , McCartin,Boyd, Dekoning.

    Mids: Macrae, Steele, Neale, Cripps,
    Rowell, JHF, N Daicos, Ward,
    C Stephens, MacDonald, Tsitas.

    Rucks: Gawn, Grundy, Hayes.

    Forwards: Dunkley, Martin,Butters ,
    Cogs, Rachele, J McEntee, Evans,
    N Martin. 10.5 k itb

  13. A few changes to my side in the last week.
    It currently sits as:

D: Crisp, Short, McInerney, Chapman, Gibcus, McCartin (SDK, Uwland)

M: MacRae, Steele, Oliver, Neale, Rowell, Berry, Daicos, Ward (Stephens, McDonald, Hough)

    R: Grundy, English (JHayes)

F: Dunks, Heeney, Butters, Cogs, Brodie, Xerri (Rachele, Martin)

    $14k bank.

Have had NicNat in my team most pre-season and still think he’ll score well but going down to English has given me the cash to improve other lines.
In defence I had Lloyd as D1, then swapped him for Whitfield who has now become McInerney. Have loved McInerney as a player for a while and think he could be a genuine star this year. Is he Supercoach relevant, who knows? His 75 point AVG last year would say no but I’m willing to back him in this year with no Dawson. Reckon him and/or Blakey breakout this year.

These changes have allowed me to have an extra premo mid (MacRae) and upgraded fwd $102 K rookie to Xerri who I reckon could get a bit of time in the ruck this year.

    What do you think coaches?

    7

    3
    1. Like it Stewy. I totally agree with your McInerney and Blakey theory and I have been debating it for a while but eventually decided to punt on McInerney at D4.

Have almost the exact mids except JHF for Ward. In essence, hoped you’ve picked well lol!!

      2

      0
    1. Sicily has proven that he can put out 100+, Hewett hasn’t. Not to mention Hewett’s role will change a lot with Walsh and Curnow coming back into the side. Sicily for me.

    DEF: L.Ryan, J.Ridley, J.Short, L.Whitfield, P.McCartin, Gibcus (SDK, McDonagh)

MID: Steele, Touk, Neale, Cripps (I know…), Rowell, Berry, Daicos, Ward (Stephens, Hollands, Parker)

    RUCK: Gawn, Grundy (Hayes)

FWD: Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, McGovern, Xerri, Rachele (McEntee, N.Martin)

    Thanks!

  15. DEF: Lloyd, Crisp, Short, Whitfield, Hinge, McCartin (Wilmot, O’Driscoll)

MID: Macrae, Steele, Miller, Treloar, Horne-Francis, Daicos, Ward, Stephens (Soligo, Long, Tsitas)

    RUCK: Gawn, Grundy (Hayes)

FWD: Dunkley, Heeney, Butters, Coniglio, Rachele, De Koning (Martin, Dixon)

    – will swap Treloar forward during the year

    3

    2
  16. Pretty happy with my current team, and hoping it survives team selections. Considering one final option.

Have Witts at R2 and reckon he’s great value. BUT, I’m concerned that he is coming back from a long term injury. So, to cover that possibility, I’m thinking English as f5/6. So, fore cash reasons, its either…..

    T/u English and Heeney
    T/d Thomas and Dusty

With Benning as non playing c loop at r3, English provides cover for Witts, and means one ruck for one bye, and two for two byes.

    8

    4
    1. Why not use one of the new 102K R3s (Hayes/Dixon) then get English and whoever you prefer out of that Thomas/Heeney/Bailey/Degoey group?

Find a non playing player elsewhere?

      2

      0
  17. Toying with Touk and Berry (TU) or Petracca and Rowell (TD).

Took maybe 125 this year and Berry not sure in that stacked midfield, maybe 85+.
Petracca to go 115 and Rowell who knows. Better role and ceiling than Berry. Need him to be a M8 at season end and go 105+

    11

    9
    1. If you are treating Rowell/Berry as anything other then expensive rookies i’d reevaluate things

      Best Case M8
More likely case. Makes you 150K and helps you get on an UberPrimo

      1

      1
        1. Best case for Rowell is you get a season long midfield premium (M8 or better) for 320k so you save 300k to spend elsewhere and save 2 trades upgrading him

It’s not wise to think of him as that pre season. More likely he’s an expensive rookie who will be a stepping stone to a UP when you cash him out at 450k and before he does that you get 85-100 ppg

          1

          1
  18. TU – Short, Ward, Witts (4 Premo Defence with a mid pricer and 1 rookie)
TD – Sinn/Rookie, Jarrod Berry, Gawn (3 Premo Defence with a mid pricer and 2 rookies

    5

    7
  19. Two teams to choose from
Def: Crisp, Ridley, Whitfield, Scily, Bowey, De koning, McCartin O’Driscoll
Mid: Macrae, Steele, Miller, Neale, Rowel, JHF, Daicos, Ward, MacDonald, Macginnis, Stephens
    Ruck: Grundy, English, Hayes
Fwd: Dunks, Butters Coniglio, Brodie, Xerri, Rachele, Hollands, Martin

    Or

Def: Crisp, Whitfield, Scily, Bowey, Chapman, De koning, McCartin, Gibcus
Mid: Macrae, Steele, Miller, Neale, Rowel, Caldwell, JHF, Daicos, Ward, MacDonald, Stephens
    Ruck: Grundy, English, Hayes
Fwd: Martin, Butters Coniglio, Brodie, Xerri, Rayner, Rachele, Martin

What do you prefer, any feedback?
    TU for First team
    TD for Second Team

    13

    4
  20. Lloyd Short Whitfield Hinge Gibcus McCartin (O’Driscoll De Koning)

Macrae Steele Miller Neale Berry Brodie JHF Daicos (Stephens Maginness C Stephens)

    Grundy Marshall (Hayes)

Dunkley Martin Butters Coniglio McGovern Rachelle (N Martin Dixon)

    4K in bank

Gone heavy on the mid pricers, which has made that backline look very week. Tough do with minimal rookies.

Don’t suggest Cripps, not around it

    1

    3
  21. Is Dunkley someone who will hover around that price? His start last year was insane, but maybe he stays around his price now as he attends less CB with Libba coming back in. Someone like Heeney if injury free will make a lot more cash.

    TU Heeney Darcy/Gawn
    TD Dunkley Marshall

    6

    8
  22. Tear my team to shreds. Want to make sure I’ve got a solid team by Rnd 1 and want to give this team a stress test. Don’t hold back.

DEF: Lloyd, Crisp, Hewett, Chapman, McCartin, De Koning (Driscoll, Dean)
MID: Macrae, Steele, Miller, Neale, Cripps, Rowell, Daicos, Ward (Hough, Macdonald, c. Stephens)
    RUC: Gawn, Marshall (Hayes)
FWD: Dunkley, Treloar, Nash, Coniglio, Brodie, Rachele (Dixon, Martin)

Took a punt on Marshall getting DPP so that I can trade Grundy for a FWD and save money now. Also not a bad POD

    1

    6
    1. Probably gone one too deep in the Mids, maybe get rid of cripps for JHF, and use that cash to upgrade De Koning to McCartin and Nash to someone like Heeney or Butters

      1

      0
  23. Def: LLoyd, Short, Whitfield, Hewett, Gibcus, McCartin ( O’Driscoll, De Koning)

Mid: Macrae, Steele, Miller, Oliver, Neale, Berry, Daicos, Ward (C.Stephens, Soligo, MacDonald)

    Ruck: Grundy, Witts (J.Hayes)

Fwd: Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Xerri, Rachele, Durdin (Martin, Dixon)

    ITB: $5.5k

Well, I have changed around endlessly and been trying to think of ways I could get the 5 premium mids to work together and I think I’ve found a way. Some of it is a risk and I’m taking a gamble there will be some cheaper rookies going around but overall I really like it.
Alternatively, I was running English in the forwards as a break glass for emergency for if Witts goes down. Basically swapping Miller to Rowell, Durdin to English which might be better but I can’t for the life of me pick which Premium mids to go for so why not all!

    4

    1
    1. Most importantly he got through the game Unscathed and will derived great benefit physically from the game.

His TOG is a worry but only to be expected until he gains fitness.

I had personally written him off but he showed in that match he hadn’t lost any of his skills. I now don’t dislike the choice, considering his price.

The concern is what he will score until he is fully fit and plays for longer periods? He should keep improving as the season progresses.
      Certainly worth some thought.

      5

      1. Fronts up to big Nic Nat R1 as well, on the Optus Stadium tarmac. Not ideal when you’re working your way back into it…

        1

        0
      2. The tricky thing about Witts is you don’t have any easy options if he goes down (Unless you pick English)

Seems like more of a Tex Walker wait and see Downgrade to sideswap play.

AKA Grundy/Gawn To Witts and Bank >200K
Then Trade Witts after the Buys and bank another 150K when you sideswap to a fallen Premium Defender/Forward

        1

        4
  24. Def – Lloyd, Short, Whitfield, Sicily, McCartin, De Koning (Kelly, O’Driscoll)

Mid – Macrae, Oliver, Neale, Cripps, Rowell, JHF, Daicos, Ward (Maginess, C. Stephens, MacDonald)

    Ruc – Gawn, Grundy (Dixon)

Fwd – Dunkley, Heeney, Butters, Cogs, Brodie, Rachele (N. Martin, Hayes)

Like the structure at the moment.
Cripps is my biggest risk but happy to take the punt and hopefully he ends up at M8.

Depending on teams I can downgrade Rowell to Berry if I need money for rookie changes.

    Money Left – $500

  25. Hi Guys,

I am not bullish on Sicily however he is currently at D4 in my team.

Was hoping that I could get anyone try to convince me for and against why Sic is a good or bad pick as I am not too sure about the Hawks, their setup and how Sicily will come back from injury.

    Thanks.

    2

    2
    1. It’s a tricky one, Jake.

I think he’s fine depth at D4 but not straight at D3.

His scoring is going to be a little more volatile on account of a few factors:

      – growing number of cooks in the Hawks kitchen
      – loss of plurality of kick ins
      – capacity to be played accountably outright or picking up slack

Will still have games where he’s intercepting like a motherf*cker and goes 120+ but will also have those where the backline has their hands full with key talls and Scrimshaw, Impey, Jiath and co are seagulling.

So, yeah: don’t want that kind of a player straight up at D3 but fine as depth at D4.

Others may be of a different mind.

  26. A little left field here but would like a TU or TD on Jade Gresham. Any saints fan insider info welcomed.
    Pros:
Previously 2 years scoring mid 80s.
Might have more mid time early due to injuries in Saints mids.
    Hits the scoreboard well.
POD with potential to score 80-90s F5/6 seasons end or 100-200k price rise

    Cons:
Awakwardly priced at $299k correlating to 60s Ave
Coming off a season ending Achilles injury last year.

    1. Hey, Zack.

Good structure but none of O’Driscoll, McDonagh, Gould, Hollands, Butler, Sinn, S. Hayes, Kelly and Parker will play Round 1.

I’d recommend checking out Alza’s most recent piece on the current crop of rookies and adjusting accordingly:

Other than that, structure is solid and premo selections are fine bar Wines and Cripps imo.

Wines did 112.5 in his Brownlow year. Finds a ton of it, lotta CPs but his poor use isn’t conducive to SC. Like I’ve said a million times, not a fan of the Cripps pick personally but that’s fine if you think he can do 105~.

      Best of luck.

Rookies paid up, great premo selection, FWD depth.

Just hoping for some cheap def rookies lol.
Enough cheap fwd options to sideways them.

    -Don’t mess with your mids.
-Get fwd rookies off the ground as cheap as posssible.
-Try to select the 10 players that give you best chance of scoring 100+ every
    week with 1-2 backups(lloyd, cogs)
-Hope fwd’s hold up while upgrading def asap.

    1. I’m sorry, TOF, but this is madness lol.

Neither the DEF or FWD rookie crops are strong enough to support that.

Right now there are about 5 on each line firming for Round 1 debuts but their collective scoring power isn’t that great tbh.

Would look for a more balanced structure.

      1. Well I believe it’s madness, everyone so proud to be running so many 160k+ rookies.
Never has been seen as a good thing to do before. Rowell and Walsh obviously changed that.
There still rookies with shaky job security and low ceilings.
At leased I’m trying to avoid them.
What really hurt last season was ziebell.
By selecting my fwd options I increase my chances of getting this year’s ziebell. And if they bust they will still out perform rookies and be there every round barring injury or rest.
But yes need cheap def rookies to show up.

        1. The main thing that changed it was the extra trades. (Plus success of these Aces last season)

You can get away with an 11 keeper team this season with 35 trades where as in the past you couldn’t and so for every Ace (200-300k player who’s both got the ability to make you 150k but also get you premo scores) you had to have a 350-500k player that you hoped would become a premium

          This year you don’t

  36. I’ve seen a lot of teams running only 2 premium mids all the mid pricers, I’ve been pretty strong all along to keep the mids 5 deep. If I need to find money for the forward rookies, it will come from JHF or Ward. With potential new forward premiums throughout the year I don’t want to be stuck with too many players averaging 70-90 so I am leaving 3 forward positions open for upgrades (Dunkley, Butters and Cogs should all be keepers hopefully) as more options become available. Witts can always be downgraded to Pruess at round 4 if it’s not working out, otherwise I have 3 ruck/fwd options that can do a job for a while too.

    RUC: Grundy, Witts (Comben)
FWD: Dunkley, Heeney, Butters, Coniglio, Rachele, Maginnes (Hollands, Martin)

3 bankable premos down back, one midpricer/stepping stone who I think could score pretty well in the first half of the season at least, a mature age rookie. Only one genuine rookie on field (Hinge, could also become Gibcus).

3 bankable premos in the middle, backing Cripps to go 105+ and his price helps enable the structure overall, Rowell looks the goods, Berry looks like a solid lower-mid-pricer, and then only two rookies on field. Upsetting seeing the amount of money on the bench, but rookie stocks are limited and so this might be the play. May sub MacDonald out for a 102k loophole option to hedge my bets a little.

Grundy speaks for himself, Witts looking like the best of the budget rucks, Comben holds the bench in the hope he maybe gets a few games, and I may look to bring in a ruc/fwd DPP before the byes.

2 bankable premos up forward, one up-and-comer, a mid-pricer with potential to become a premo, and then two rookies on field.

11 likely keepers (the 9 bankables plus Cripps/Butters to lift from last year)
3 possible keepers (Rowell, Witts, Cogs – straight swap for fallen premos otherwise)
    2 mid-priced stepping stones
6 rookies on field (one mature-age)

There’s also a world where Cripps becomes a rookie, Hinge becomes Chapman and Witts becomes a 600k+ premo.

  38. Hi All

Looking for any feedback. Looks like some different structures out there this year with plenty of bargain mids and lacking them in defence.

Def- Ridley, Short, Sicily, Bowes, Hinge, Mcartin (O’Driscol, De,Conning )

Mid- Miller,Oliver, Neale, Rowell, J Berry, Caldwell, Daicos, Ward ( JHF, MacDonald, D Stephens)

150k in the bank so still deciding if I upgrade Sicily to Crisp or De goey or Thomas to Dunkley.

Ruck bench is still up for grabs between Lunch Preuss and Hayes

Far too many mid prices …. Guess I am leaving in a fantasy world that Rowell, Berry , De Goey, Cogs , Thomas and Butters could all be keepers Haha

  41. Been thinking more about just stacking my midfield (since i play more for league then overall). Have another team option i’m thinking about.

Def: Ryan, Whitfield, Mcinnerny, Chapman, Gibcus, Mccartin: Odriscoll, Voss

only 2 rookies. Went Mcinnerny over Hewett because of his bye and because a lot of points just left the Swans midfield. someone has to get them. Preseason showed it might be him.

Mids: Mcrae, Steele, Miller, Oliver, Parish, Neale, Daicos, Ward: Stevens, hough, mcdonald

Couldn’t choose between the big dogs so went with all of them. Walsh will be a rd 12 upgrade target and I’ll grab an M8 POD around the same time. No Horne Francais, but Ward should score just as well and neither will likely be a keeper. Could be a rookie correction. Stephens is a lot of money on the bench but will need someone to play M8 if Daicos becomes a defender.

Rucks: Grundy + Marshall, Hayes. No Gawn could hurt but both will score well marshall is much better without Ryder so that should help at the start of the season to boost his price, and hopefully he gets the FWD classification

FWDS: Dunkley, Cogs, Brodie, Xerri, Rachelle, SDK : Martin, Dixon

Pretty standard. should be able to crack 500. 11 keepers + cogs.

      1. Touk Miller is in the team lol. Just called Miller rather then Touk.

Further tweaked the team. Ended up dropping Mcrae for Brayshaw. To afford to go back up to Grundy.

Saved a few trades with Set + Forget and can sideswap Brayshaw at the byes if he’s not in that 120 range.

Not interested in Rowell’s injury history. got burnt last year. Think you need him for overall but for not for league. I’d rather have 10 UP Rucks/Mids then try and work out a defense/Forward line later.

If Cogs + Daicos count as premos i have 14 and only need 18 trades to full premo. (3 for UP MIds)

    1. Nice team! Suspect Sinn/Boyd/Voss won’t be named so I’d ditch the fwd/Def loop and put Dekoning up back and pick another guy fwd. Even if Sinn named I’d still put him down back.

      1. Good call Rod.

My thinking is that I want a fwd/def loop. Putting both Dekonig and McCartin back or forward and deleting Voss breaks the loop. ATM I have utilised this structure accepting Voss (or another player is a zero loop). Any suggestions on a better playing fwd\def option would be greatly appreciated.

Agreed that Sinn may not play round 1 but he will play in the early rounds. Saving a trade for when he comes in and happy to bench him early days as there appear to be SFA other low priced defenders that look like an early debut. My current structure allows DPP coverage albeit potentially flawed.

Always open to other options and suggestions.

        1. Yeah prob fair enough. And I may end up having to do a similar thing myself because of the lack of Def rookies (I have Odriscoll in that same spot which may end up being my captain loophole as I don’t think he will be named either). However I don’t think it’s ideal the Capt loop being in that Def line mind you!

For my bench fwd I have Nick Martin (Ess) and Dixon (WCE which you already have). And Hayes (Stk) on Rucks bench (again the same) which I suspect may become the capt loop (where I rather it – in the rucks).

If I could afford Sinn I would go ODriscoll to Sinn but cash is a bit tight. And I am hoping my cheap mid bench rookies are named otherwise I have to drop ODriscoll down and bring in a higher price mid rook.

But overall I think your team is one of the best going around at the moment.

    1. You said it yourself – not sure what you have in the bank but Taranto to a premo Def would be a good move. T can be a upgrade target once Greene is back imo

    2. Ward on the bench is a bit too deep for me, Drop him for someone like cooper Stephens, and get taranto to someone like Xerri or Ralphsmith. This lets you upgrade de koning to someone like whitfield or short

      1. GGG.

I really like the fact you are so active on this page but sometimes I think you miss the point. I suggest you read MJ’s 12 golden rules of SC.

SC is about recruiting the best Rookies first, then structuring your team around them. You don’t drop Ward or De’Koning if they look best 22 and are set to make money. If you want or need to bench them because of structure. then that’s fine. Just remember ,the rookies make the majority of our cash. If say D Stephens is best 22 and C Stephens is fringe. Pay up and get Dylan. They can’t make $$ if they are not playing. Get all the best playing rookies first. you want green dots everywhere. For Snout above ..Having too many dead $102K guys like Uwland and Parker will be a nightmare to shuffle around come round one. Try and have at least $123K guys as place holders if your unsure. Remember Rookies first, then work your Premiums and stepping stones around them.

I actually don’t mind you advice on Taranto down to Xerri / Ralphsmith . I would just use the funds to get in all the best rookies.

        Cheers FT.

    1. Hey Matt,

Depends on your overall Forward structure. Docherty and Weitering to return for round 1.

McGovern looks in good form but where do the def/mid points spread once these guys return. Walsh to come back in a month which will also affect Hewitt, Cripps and Kennedy scoring. One or two will score big but how consistently?

Chasing points / burning trades on the above is a choice. Providing Walsh hits the ground running post injury, he is the only blue selection/ upgrade target.

The blues will play a similar game to Sydney this year (cumulative accountability) not very SC friendly for individual players but effective.

    2. If unsure
      1. Check their bye

    7
    1. Ziebell is overpriced and tended to score worse with Hall. Hall will be back in a few weeks so i would find another D1

Krueger is out injured so not worth starting. Most people are using Paddy McCartin as a Def rookie. I’d swap him in.

Will Kelly also doesn’t appear to have good Job security so he might be worth swapping out for another rookie.

Caldwell’s role is very uncertain. not woth the Hassle

Rachelle is forward eligible and there are already more wanted midfielders then midfield spots. so he’s better used as a forward.

It’s been that hard to find Defensive Rookies that if you want Rioli (D/F) Then you should pick him in the back line

Dusty and Jezza are unpopular for a reason but if you like them go for it.

You generally want bench rookies who play so if/When Sinn isn’t named you will want to swap him out for another player.

D1 ?????, Stuart, Rich, Whitfield, Rioli, McCartin: gibcus NWM
Mids: Caldwell out. (most have Berry in that spot) Replace Will Kelly with 123k or less mid

FWD: Dusty, Jezza, Gresh, Rayner, Cogs, Rachelle: SDK, Hayes

That also leaves you with roughly an extra 50k to play with to upgrade wherever you like. Most would recomend Bont to Mcrae/Miller/Steele

  62. Are three Doggies too many ??? Got Macrae and Dunks.

I’m considering English as f5/6 for cover for Witts, so…..

    T/U English

    1. Think last year I had Macrae, Bont, Bailey and Dunkley all at the same time last year at one stage and still worked out pretty well!

Now I don’t recommend that many but I don’t see it as that much of a prob if they all perform.

BTW I selected English in the fwd. Treloar had a super grand final game but not sure that can be sustained all year. I think it’s back to Ruck domination this year for scoring so that’s why I have English who I think will avg 100.

      2

      0
      1. Thanks Rod. So torn with this. At worst I reckon Treloar might average 10ppg more, but I then need to either burn a trade if Witts goes down, and only to a Draper type. If I keep English, I can still have one of the Hayes types as R3 for additional cover. Might go with English and assess after R2.
First up against Gawn and Jackson does worry me. Mind you, Treloar also injury prone.

        1

        1. I’ve got English fwd as well as Gawn/Grundy! At under $500k you can’t go wrong and a no brainer if you haven’t got a Gawn/Grundy/NicNat

  63. Hey T-Rex cheers for the reply this is basically how I’m shaping up rn

Def: Lloyd, Crisp, Short, Whitfield, Gibcus, McCartin (o’driscoll, De Koning)

Mid: Macrae, Steele, Neale, Rowell, Berry, JHF, Daicos, Ward (D.Stephens, Hollands, MacDonald)

    Ruck: Gawn, Grundy (hayes)

Fwd: Dunkley, Butters, Cogs, McGovern, Brodie, Xerri (Rachele, Dixon)

I feel relatively happy with taking a risk but just not sure if it’s too nuclear with regards to the mid pricers. In an ideal world I want to try to fit either Hewitt or Cripps in but we’ll see

    1. Hey Matt,

Looking good to me. I would have liked to squeeze in Gibcus but round 1 teams will dictate that. This year with the lack of cheap rookies, the risk on mid prices is required.

    1. Hi there Dominate.

Theres a few must have rookies that you have missed. Gibcus and Rachele are both looking like solid selections that you need to find spots for. Where as Sinn and O Driscoll look likely to miss out. I’m really not a fan of Rayner as he has not really shown enough as yet. I would down grade him to Rachele. Witts and Cripps is a pretty risky move , but could pay off if Witts is up to it. I would sleep better with Berry instead of Cripps and Witts up to a ROB type. . I can’t really fault the rest of your side.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

    1. Great Team Phoebe !

      Ha ha Gunboat.. same reaction!

Welcome to SCT . Thanks for posting.

This team looks very balanced, Passing on Horne-Francis could hurt as I expect him to get Forward status .Though I guess with Berry at M6 you can’t fit them all in. Overall this is a super solid side. It should hold you in good stead to start the year. I wish you all best on your maiden SC journey. I’m stoked this site could help you pick a side. Stick around during the season ,as we have a heap of content to help you with everything from trading to Captains choices.

Once again, welcome and best of luck in 2022.

        1. Go with your gut Pheobe . Keep Berry for now, I think he has a better chance of scoring 80 plus than Hugo or Xerri. You can always adjust your team before price changes, ( after Round 2 ) and find away to get in JHF if looks a must have.

          Best of luck in 2022.

  69. Been thinking more about Cripps.

I think if you think he’s going to be a Keeper (and he should be if you are picking him) i think he has to be M3.

Then that extra money goes to going 5 deep in the backline.

Or 4 of the >570k Defensive primos + midpricer and extra rookie cash.

  70. Hi all,

Nervous about my R2. Currently have Big O but he’s gonna be sharing the load with Fort I hear, so that may impact on his scoring. I can afford someone a bit more expensive, say Marshall, but that’d affect funds itb for trades early in the season.
So, should I stick with McInerney or jump off?

If I make the move, do I upgrade to a Marshall (but what happens when Paddy returns?) maybe move sideways with Nank or ROB, or even downgrade to someone like English, or Preuss? Ideally, I want to set and forget with this posi.

It’s been circling round in my head for a while and I can’t resolve it! Your help please – any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers guys… and good luck!

        Please, be gentle.

        2
        1. Ok Teeps

I want to be gentle..Sometimes it better to just rip the band aid off. I’ve got to be brutally honest, theres some major problems with this team.

Bolton, Rioli and Gresham have to go. They are all inconsistent, and or injury risks without the upside .I would avoid all these guys. Dusty, Hugo and Cogs are fine but need to be forward.

You also have a heap of rookies that are unlikely to play. I will try to suggest a team now that keeps most of your preferred Premo’s .Minus your above trio. You don’t need to start this team, but it should at least give you a better starting point.

Crisp or Ryan to Whitfield (keep the other one.) You need the cash to get Rioli to Hewett. who will play midfield and should be a heap more consistent for the extra $$ So lets try something like…

Ryan . Whitfield . Sicily . Hewett. Gibcus. McCartin. DeKon. Kemp.

Satan. Bont . Merrett ( I prefer Parish for the price, but its up to you. ) Neale.
One of Berry or Rowell. ( both are popular stepping stones ) JHF . Daicos . Ward . For you bench . 3 of D Stephens, C Stephens. Macdonald . Sollgo . Hough. whoever looks to have the best job Security ( JS ) playing R1.

To join Grundy.. Gawn or Darcy if you can afford them or down to ROB if you want the extra forward.

Dunkley, Dusty or T Thomas ( you maybe able afford two of these guys if you go ROB in the rucks. ) / Butters / Cogs / Hugo or Xerri
Rachelle . other rookies choose from Maguinees . Durdin. N Martin or Baldwin. Best JS preferred.

Hope this help turn you in the right direction . Have a play around with this structure. I’m sure you will come up with some thing you like.

Best of luck and happy planning.

Try to avoid the $300K -$400K options as they very rarely work.

Prioritise rookies and work backwards. I’m sure you will find the right balance.

M – Macrae, Steele, Miller, Neale, Rowell, JHF, Daicos, Ward (Stephens, Joyce, Macdonald)

Rich & McInerny are POD picks. I think McInerny could rack it up like Dawson and go 95-100. Backing him over Hewitt

FWD rookies look sketchy, but I can get Durdin to a Brodie with some rookie shuffling (subject to rookie selections of course!!)

Also considered running 4 deep down back. Would love feedback on the below:

    1. Looks like you’ve got a bit of money sitting on the bench, you could try using that to upgrade Chapman. After all, you’re paying more for Chapman than you are for Cogs.
Alternatively, cut Berry, bring Ward on-field and upgrade.

Pure guns and rookies, just different to where you might expect.
Limited rookies, best rookies in the mids. Nearly a set and forget forward line.
Rucks are weak, but Preuss will play and make a lot of money. I’m hopeful between the 2 super budget rucks, they’ll fill the hole until Preuss has made enough to upgrade.
Backs are very strong. I count 13-14 keepers.
Risky, I know, but I have to try something new.

    1. Super risky indeed Brad.

English has to come into consideration over Dusty or Treloar, if you go down this path. It could still work , but I’d prefer the security of Ruck cover. Or you look at Cripps to Berry and try and get Witts in.

I guess either way, its risk v’s reward. Good luck .

      2

      1. Thanks mate. It would have to be English for Treloar, otherwise too many dogs in the forward line. But I really like Treloar this year…

        3

        0
    2. Yeah would have to go English for Treloar here. Wouldn’t be surprised if you need 3 premo rucks with Covid this year as well.

Last couple of years pure Guns and Rookies hasn’t really worked. GnR was a great strategy when Gold Coast and GWS started in the comp but it’s been getting harder and harder to play that strategy in recent years with this one prob the hardest.

  81. I’ve only got room for 3 of the big 4 this year and it’s out of Oliver and Miller to fill the last spot. I have started Oliver the last 3/4 seasons and he’s always repayed me with massive numbers but Miller is looking incredible with Witts and Rowell back on the park. Who would you back in?

    T/D – Miller

  82. G’day SC’s,

Does anyone have any intel on Jed McEntee from Port Adelaide? He scored 58 points in the AAMI CS match against Adelaide but I am not seeing him in many teams. Whereas Holland (same price and also mid/fwd) is featuring a lot and he didn’t get a gurnsey in the practice matches and is doubtful for round 1.

    Cheers
