Rookie Review – Round 13 2022

Written by Alza on June 14 2022

The 2nd bye week is over with 6 games over 5 days. A lot of relevant rookies missed this week giving us a chance to either trade them out or hold for another week as cover for round 14. A couple of new rookies this week with Clarke the pick of the bunch but I still am not that comfortable on going early as we’ve seen with Rioli only managing 5 games in a similar role.

Players on the bubble are shown with an asterisk.

The Good: Daicos was very influential during the Queen’s Birthday clash. He had 33 touches at 79% and took 6 marks as well as having 9 intercepts. 2 tons in a row leading into his bye is good and bad because now we feel like we could hold him to get even more value out of him. He has done his job for us very well though and should be used for hopefully some final or almost final upgrades. Gibcus only had the 6 touches this week but 5 were contested as well as kicking a goal and having 6 one percenters. Doing well in his swingman role the last 2 games.

The Bad: Stein was the sub and came on in the 2nd quarter. Only managed 4 touches from 62% TOG.

Owens the only rookie mid this week and he was concussed during the 2nd quarter. He had 4 touches at 100% at this point with 5 contested possessions to his name but will unfortunately miss the next game.

No rucks featured this week with Preuss and Hayes playing VFL and SANFL respectively, Preuss is a good chance to return though.

The Good: Hobbs continued his good form this week with 17 touches, 6 marks and a goal. He is playing predominantly forward but still finding enough contested possessions to boost his scoring.

The Bad: Durdin had a quiet day as he kicked 2 behinds from his 6 touches and used it at only 50% efficiency. Horne-Francis had his worst game this year with 8 touches and 2 marks and tackles. Will be in some trouble with the MRO but let’s hope when he comes back we see the Horne-Francis we saw in the first month or so.
