Rookie Review – Round 16

After what feels like 10 weeks the byes are finally over! We get back to having all of our premiums available and hopefully everyone has 22 or 23 after the bye period.

McCarthy and May look like the best options this week. Although McCarthy is in 47% of teams with another 8% trading him in this week already. If you don’t have him then he is a must get. May has shown great signs especially in his 2nd game. With the Bombers injury issues he should stay in the side.

There are some other decent options but are slightly more expensive. Tauru, Rowston or Liddy should be good options if you can afford them but cash is at a premium at this time of year.

Good: McCarthy did it again with his 2nd 100 from as many games. He now has an impressive -175 break even. If he can back this up and score 107 or more, he will have the biggest price rise in Supercoach history. Currently Gulden has the record with $123.8k in 2021 just ahead of Barlow in 2010 with $119.9k increase. He had 29 touches, 5 marks, 6 intercepts and 639m gained. Tauru punched his way to a great score, unlike someone else this week. He had 14 one percenters, mostly spoils to equal the record for St. Kilda. On top of this he had 9 touches at 89% with 6 contested, 5 marks and 3 tackles.

Good: Jackson returned to the side after a week off and he should remain in the team now after this performance. The Wolverine had 17 touches, 3 marks and 7 score involvements. He had a big 1st quarter and 1st half before the game blew out which is why his score is inflated. Allan has been in great form and doesn’t seem to be a sub candidate anymore. 16 touches with 8 contested, 4 marks, 4 tackles and 5 intercepts.

Good: Curtin had a career best game and the highest score by a rookie this year. 26 touches at 81%, 8 marks, 5 tackles, 8 intercepts, 11 score involvements including 3 goal assists, 3 clearances, almost 500m gained and 2 goals of his own. Hall earned himself a Rising Star nomination with 22 touches at 77%, 4 marks, 4 tackles and 3 clearances. Erasmus had 17 touches with 8 contested, 6 marks, 6 tackles, 3 clearances and 7 score involvements. Boosted by most of his work being done in the last 3 quarters when the game was close.

Bad: Lynch had a stinker and got himself reported with a wild swing that you don’t see much these days. Statless until the 3rd quarter he ended with 2 touches, 1 goal and 5 free kicks against. Green had a quiet day with 4 touches and a mark with 3 clangers.

Subs: Young, Sharp, Hansen Jr

  1. Traded out Erasmus last week to get Touk, who had 122 so that was okay, but dammit. And now Fyfe is out for a month, so Neil’s JS goes to the moon. It’s a cruel game, nearly all the time!

Max Hall has had an underrated season. Been a bit up and down as rookies tend to do in an average team, but his good games have been very good.

    • Absolutely it is! But we keep coming back
Yep he’s a lock in the side even more so now. He’s been a great pick up, was sub in his 3rd game so scared a lot of people off.

Yeah Hall has been very underrated, if he was in more teams he would be appreciated more for sure
