Rookie Review – Round 3

Written by Alza on April 4 2023

Our rookies have now had their first price rises with a few huge increases. After this week players scores from Round 1 will not be included in their pricing average so even if a player doesn’t have the best breakeven, be sure to check out what it could be the next 2 weeks as it might drop significantly and give their cash generation a nice boost.

Players on the bubble have an asterisk next to their name.

The Good: Ginbey continues his fantastic start to his career with 20 touches, 8 tackles and 6 clearances from 19 centre bounces. His high contested game style is perfect for Supercoach. Buckley keeps getting it done down back as a player that most coaches missed. He had 12 touches at 92% with 3 marks and 3 tackles. His score was boosted by his 8 intercept possessions and 11 one percenters. Michalanney is another solid performer with fairly low ownership with 5%. He had 12 touches at 100% with 4 marks and 5 tackles after playing on after copping a huge hit to the ribs.

The Good: Baker stood up when a lot of coaches needed him as Hopper cover. He had 18 touches at 78% with 7 marks, a goal and 611 metres gained playing on a wing. Mackenzie has been great so far and was again in his first win. He finished with 20 touches with 8 contested at 65% and laid a massive 9 tackles. Only had 4 CBA’s so he has shown he can score without them.

The Bad: Roberts was the sub once again for his 3 touch, 2 mark game. He actually lost money and likely will again as he is the Swans go too sub. Johnson only had 28% TOG as the sub in his debut and scored well considering from 6 touches and 2 tackles.

Ratugolea had a great start to the game but fell away after the 1st quarter. He had 11 touches and 3 marks with 6 intercepts and 5 one percenters. 4 clangers hurt his scoring unfortunately. Ryan was subbed out in slippery conditions with only 35% TOG. Only managed 2 touches but had 9 hitouts from 15 ruck contests.

The Good: Sheezel has gone back to back to back 110+ scores and went up over 100 thousand dollars. He had 26 touches at 81% with 7 marks, 6 tackles and 8 intercepts. He had 6 clangers which even held his score back somewhat. If he can continue with similar form he may well be a D6/F6 keeper this year. Chandler has now had 3 great games. He kicked 3 goals from 9 touches at 89% with 5 marks. Brockman returned to the side after missing last year. He kicked 3.1 from 11 touches with 6 marks and 3 tackles. van Rooyen made an impact in his debut with 3 goals. He had 9 touches with 6 contested at 89% as well as 3 marks and 6 tackles. Even though he played great he could be a short term option as Gawn’s replacement.

The Bad: A bit unfair on Stone as he was the sub again but he had 4 touches with 3 clangers from 21% TOG. Henry had 6 clangers from his 11 touches to give him a poor score even with 4 marks and 5 tackles.

  1. Sheezel to go up 100k in price to then still have the lowest BE is incredible. Acting like he is going to be a set and forget

  2. Can any Tigers supporters bring me up to speed with Young’s roll/JS? Havent watched a Richmond game yet, is he only in until Tarrant comes back?

  3. I’m contemplating going a round late on a couple of rookies just because of their scoring ability. What are people’s thoughts on bringing in Chandler or Buckley?

    TU: Reasonable idea.
    TD: Look elsewhere.
