Round 21 Review

Western Bulldogs (19.18.132) defeated GWS (6.8.44)

  1. Tim English (202). English kicked off the round in wild style, posting a double ton thanks to 20 disposals, 2 goals, 11 marks, 14 score involvements and 22 hitouts in the Bulldogs big win.
  2. Marcus Bontempelli (151). 27 touches for Bont but it was the high DE of 93% plus 14 score involvements, 2 goal assists, 5 marks and 9 clearances that really boosted him.
  3. Lachlan Ash (139). Did so much in the Giants backline, collecting 36 touches @ 81% DE, 12 marks, 685 metres gained and 9 rebounds from 50.
  4. Aaron Naughton (137). Kicked another massive bag of goals, this week slotting 5 goals from 20 disposals and 8 marks (4 contested).
  5. Lachie Whitfield (126). Like Ash, had plenty to do down back, accumulating 29 touches and 13 marks plus 501 metres gained to round out a high scoring top five.

Other 100+ scores: Tom Liberatore/Sam Darcy (119), Connor Idun (112), Finn Callaghan (106), Ed Richards (100)

Disappointment: He found enough of the pill but his team being pumped didn’t help Tom Green on his way to a 75.

Rookies: Just defenders Cleary (45) and Busslinger (35) for the Bulldogs. Only Fonti (38) and Rowston (16) for the Giants too in an experienced game.

Injuries: McMullin was subbed out due to an ankle injury, while the Digs got through unscathed, subbing out Poulter.

 

Adelaide (15.11.101) defeated Hawthorn (13.9.87)

  1. Jordan Dawson (149). The Crows captain was super in an awesome contest. 21 touches, 81% DE, 2 majors, 6 inside 50s and a game best 12 tackles.
  2. Reilly O’Brien (131). O’Brien took the chocolates in the ruck scoring battle, finishing with 18 touches, 8 clearances and 43 hitouts for the game.
  3. Izak Rankine (129). Massive last quarter for Rankine to boost his score. Finished with 3 majors from 16 touches plus 3 goal assists and 5 inside 50s.
  4. Lloyd Meek (117). Meek was no far off O’Brien, leading the Hawks scoring thanks to 17 touches (11 contested) plus 10 clearances and 44 hitouts.
  5. Will Day (113). Day was awesome up until injury took him out of the game. 19 touches, 1 goal and 9 tackles up until that point.

Other 100+ scores: Jack Ginnivan (108), Josh Worrell (105), Mark Keane (102), Karl Amon (100)

Disappointment: Been in hot form but Sicily (87) was quieter here.

Rookies: Just Curtin (84) for the Crows, while the Hawks only had tall forward Lewis (64).

Injuries: Clean cards with Dear and Cook the subs for their respective teams.

 

Melbourne (21.13.139) defeated West Coast (8.6.54)

  1. Ryan Maric (141). It’s been a slow mid-season for Maric after being a genuine money maker early. 29 touches plus 1 goal and 627 metres gained to lead this games scoring.
  2. Max Gawn (131). Solid as per usual for Max, his 21 touches, 1 goal, 8 marks (3 contested) and 29 hitouts for the game.
  3. Tom McCarthy (123). Still a really popular on field pick, McCarthy was fantastic thanks to 26 touches (10 contested) @ 81% DE, 7 marks and 5 clearances.
  4. Jack Viney (121). 25 touches for Viney with a massive 20 of those being contested. Also had 1 goal, 13 clearances and 8 tackles.
  5. Christian Petracca (117). Rounds out the top five thanks to 23 touches (12 contested) plus 1 goal and 2 goal assists.

Other 100+ scores: Clayton Oliver (109), Jake Bowey (106), Kade Chandler (103), Tim Kelly (100)

Disappointment: Most of the big names fired, so it’ll go to the semi popular and usually consistent Baker (79).

Rookies: Cullen (78) returned to senior football with a solid 2 goal, 13 touch game, coming in just behind Langford (79). Sharp (5) the other Demon. The Eagles, bar McCarthy, had Hewett (77), Hall (60), Reid (58), Bazzo (43), Gross (41), Shanahan (28), Dewar (21) and finally Davis (13).

Injuries: Clean cards here again with Melksham and Dewar being the subs on Saturday afternoon.

 

Gold Coast (16.11.107) defeated Richmond (2.11.23)

  1. Noah Anderson (147).The Suns skipper continues to shine with a massive game of 38 touches (15 contested), 3 goal assists, 8 clearances, 9 inside 50s and 521 metres gained.
  2. Nick Vlastuin (138). Another super game from the veteran. 20 touches, 8 marks, 11 intercepts, 90% DE and 5 rebounds from 50.
  3. Matt Rowell (134). The usual stuff from Rowell. 27 touches (14 contested) with 85% DE, 12 clearances and 9 tackles.
  4. Touk Miller (122). Returned to the side and was subbed out but not before finding 25 disposals, 5 tackles and 7 inside 50s.
  5. Jy Farrar (120). Farrar was super and provides a nice late season downgrade option thanks to 2 goals, 11 disposals, 6 marks and 6 tackles.

Other 100+ scores: Mac Andrew (118), Brayden Fiorini (114), Sam Collins (113), John Noble (107), Sam Banks (103), Joel Jeffrey (100)

Disappointment: Once again, most of the popular picks worked out. But some left field PODs weren’t good. Flanders (47) and Humphrey (59) for the Suns, Short (75) and Nankervis (79) for the Tigers.

Rookies: Horton (59) led the Tigers ahead of Trainor (47), Armstrong (30), Green (27), Sims (23) and Faull (0), who was injured very early. After Farrar, the Suns had Read (91) who was active up forward and Adams (42).

Injuries: The Tigers lost promising young tall Faull to a knee injury, while Gold Coast used their sub tactically to rest up the returning Miller.

 

Sydney (9.14.68) defeated Essendon (7.12.54)

  1. Brodie Grundy (200). Wild. Even more wild when you realise this wasn’t even the best score of the round. 39 disposals (22 contested) plus 8 marks, 13 clearances and 32 hitouts.
  2. Nick Blakey (155). Super from Blakey streaming off half-back as he finished with 28 touches, 11 intercepts, 10 marks (4 contested) plus 8 inside 50s and 678 metres gained.
  3. Andrew McGrath (131). Kept busy in the Essendon backline, finding 26 disposals (15 contested) plus 7 clearances and 5 tackles/inside 50s/rebounds from 50.
  4. Callum Mills (125). Solid again from Mills. 23 disposals with 83% DE, 7 marks and 8 rebounds from 50 to be one of the Swans best.
  5. Isaac Heeney (123). Rounds out this contests top five, finding 28 touches (14 contested) with 1 goal, 7 marks and and 7 clearances for the game.

Other 100+ scores: Errol Gulden (115), Justin McInerney (114), Dane Rampe (111), Jayden Laverde (100)

Disappointment: Giving this one to Chad Warner for his poor score of 70.

Rookies: The Essendon rookies were led by Prior (82), who has been a solid rookie across 2025. After that it was May (56), Blakiston (53), Nguyen (44) on debut, Kako (40), Clarke (39), Lual (37), McMahon (21) and finally Smartt (6). Sheldrick (92) keeps getting better and led the Swans ahead of  Buller (88) who was also great, the debut of Dattoli (49) and the returning Cleary (29).

Injuries: No injuries to report here. McMahon and Ladhams the subs in wet conditions.

 

Collingwood (10.5.65) defeated by Brisbane (14.8.92)

  1. Hugh McCluggage (157). Hugh was huge as the Lions made a real statement. 34 touches (14 contested), 8 clearances, 7 tackles and 6 inside 50s and 2 goal assists.
  2. Lachie Neale (142). Neale was wildly good on Saturday night. 36 touches (20 contested) with 81% DE plus 12 clearances as they dominated the midfield.
  3. Josh Dunkley (135). No faults in Dunkley’s game. 31 touches plus 9 clearances and 6 tackles.
  4. Logan Morris (124). Difference on the night thanks to 6 goals from 14 touches, 6 marks and 2 goal assists to round out the night.
  5. Darcy Fort (111). Continues to be fantastic in the ruck and hold his spot. 9 disposals, 5 tackles and 35 hitouts to round out this game.

Other 100+ scores: Nick Daicos (110), Darcy Cameron (108), Scott Pendlebury (106), Steele Sidebottom (105), Dayne Zorko (101), Josh Daicos (100)

Disappointment: Will Ashcroft (86) had 30 touches but just 53% DE and 7 clangers.

Rookies: Minimal here with just Long (54) for the Pies while the Lions, after Fort, had Smith (74), Ashcroft (57) and Marshall (41).

Injuries: Lester (concussion) was out early for the Lions, while the Magpies subbed out De Goey tactically.

 

St Kilda (11.12.78) defeated North Melbourne (10.9.69)

  1. Rowan Marshall (144). Outstanding in a solid contest, Marshall led all scorers thanks to 24 touches, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 32 hitouts, 7 inside 50s and 1 major.
  2. Caleb Daniel (142). Doubt he’d be dropped after this performance. 32 touches but elite DE of 91% and 8 marks to pop off.
  3. Harry Sheezel (131). Great stuff from Sheezel mainly down back. 33 touches with 5 marks, 1 goal and 79% DE.
  4. Jack Sinclair (128). 26 touches for Jack with 10 contested but it was the DE of 88% which really boosted him. Also had 11 intercepts and 6 rebounds from 50.
  5. Colby McKercher (123). 36 touches including 28 kicks for McKercher to round out this top five. Also had 8 marks, 1 goal and 642 metres gained.

Other 100+ scores: Luke Davies-Uniacke (112), Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (108), Callum Wilkie (100)

Disappointment: Has to go to Macrae (78) from this Sunday contest.

Rookies: Nothing awesome for the Roos with O’Sullivan (63) coming in ahead of Hardeman (59), Duursma (43), Hansen Jnr (33), Banch (30), Konstanty (26) and Harvey (22). Boxshall (88) was very solid for the Saints in the win, leading their rookies ahead of Hall (66), Heath (61), Tauru (58) and Hastie (30).

Injuries: The Saints lost Owens to a hamstring injury, while the Kangaroos lost youngster Banch to a rib concern. Both were their teams respective subs.

 

Geelong (23.15.153) defeated Port Adelaide (9.11.65)

  1. Max Holmes (154). Ran hard all game and was clean, collecting 35 touches @ 74% DE plus 2 majors, 7 marks, 15 score involvements, 9 inside 50s and 875 metres gained.
  2. Shannon Neale (122). Super up forward, finding 15 disposals with 3 goals, 7 marks (2 contested) and 6 tackles for the game.
  3. Ollie Wines (120). Led the Port scoring with a super performance of 32 disposals, 8 clearances and & tackles despite the scoreline.
  4. Bailey Smith (119). Ran all game long and found 30 disposals (13 contested) plus 8 clearances, 7 tackles and 546 metres gained.
  5. Williem Drew (114). Rounds out this games top five thanks to 24 touches, 2 goal assists and a game best, 10 tackles.

Other 100+ scores: Gryan Miers (111), Jordon Sweet (110), Patrick Dangerfield (106), Jack Bowes (104), Tom Stewart/Travis Boak (100)

Disappointment: Butters (45) was sat on all game long.

Rookies: Fair bit here for Port. Lorenz (81) led them, ahead of Berry (62), twin 49s from Lord and McEntee, Williams (35), Liddy (34) and finally the subbed on Jackson (14) and debutant Whitlock (14 as well). Just O’Sullivan (66) and the subbed on Martin (49) who slotted 4 goals in 5 minutes.

Injuries: Burgoyne (leg) was subbed out for the Power while Stanley was the tactical for Geelong. Rozee a late out if anyone missed that.

 

Fremantle (15.4.94) defeated Carlton (10.7.67)

  1. Luke Jackson (142). Started here, helping his team over the line thanks to 27 disposals (21 contested) with 8 clearances, 18 hitouts and 1 goal.
  2. Patrick Cripps (125). Had the team on his back at times, collecting 36 touches (21 contested) with 9 clearances and 9 tackles as well.
  3. Jordan Clark (122). So much drive with 759 metres gained off his 30 touches. Also had 5 clearances.
  4. George Hewett (120). Much like Cripps, was super in the middle, finishing up with 36 touches (15 contested) plus 6 tackles and 7 clearances.
  5. Cooper Lord (111). Keeps improving week by week and rounds out this games top five thanks to 22 touches (14 contested) plus 8 tackles and solid DE of 81%.

Other 100+ scores: Josh Treacy (106), Andrew Brayshaw (101)

Disappointment: Grim ending to the round for Caleb Serong (75). Bolton (50) also horrid.

Rookies: Flynn Young (57) led the Blues ahead of Moir (54) and Motlop (41). White (40), Carroll (31) and O’Farrell (27) are the rest. Oscar McDonald (88) was the best for Freo just ahead of Worner (86) with Dudley (68), O’Driscoll (55) and Reid (43) following that. Oh also Erasmus (73) who was subbed on.

Injuries: The Dockers lost the freshly returned Young to a groin injury early, while the Blues had O’Farrell (knee) subbed around half time.
