SC BBL – Tips & Tricks

Reposting this for the benefit of those having a crack in 2020… Motts

Our resident stats man, Adam, has been playing SC BBL for a number of years and recently commented in our Rate My Team post with some advice I thought was worthy of its own post.

Once you grasp the basics, it’s quite easy to play and far less difficult than AFL SC.

Little to no injuries to relevant players
Less suspensions, rests, omissions, etc
Less relevant players
Schedule centric which is beneficial for astute players to be able to efficiently and consistently capitalise
Transparent scoring system

In regards to the format:
Target the top 4 batters
Target the death/strike bowlers
Select batsmen with high strike rates
Select bowlers with low economy rates
Select several/many all-rounders
Develop a solid bench to allow potential guns to be relegated to the bench during their byes rather than being traded
Avoid excessively targeting the DGW’s (1-3 per team is recommended and avoid selecting 5+ from a team)

Are there any other tips and tricks you’d add to his list?

  2. No real downside having 4+ DGW players , but you must trade them out accordingly to their break-evens and upcoming byes.

Stars have a DGW in Round 1 but a Bye in Round 3 so after the Stars Round 1 DGW you have to look at trading out your Stars players preferably to Strikers players who have a DGW in Rounds 2 and 3.

    • my thouhts exactly DA with a reserve keeper that leaves only 4 spots in the opener .Christian ,well priced and they got him to do a job will bowl more overs this BBL SECONDLY wildermuth again good value and an all rounder, number 3 Turner, former champ doesn’t bowl much nowadays and will bat close to 4 or 5,but the main reason i want Turner is that he plays for the scorchers who have plenty of late games ,represents good looping, and lastly Scott from adelaide bottom priced player who has that valuable DPP My query will be round 2 where i have to cull a good star -Zampa maxy or Stoinis but who? cheers NDD

  6. Demons Delight Lachy Pfeffer Heat 42 WK/Bat also a very good loop option as Heat have the best fixture to loop.

Your best option when culling your Stars players is to access it on all of their relative break evens.

  7. Break Evens are in BBL SC just like AFL SuperCoach.

    For Example , a 42k SGW player BE is 15 and a 62k SGW player is 22.
Whereas DGW Stars players Break Even for a 62k player is 44 as they play twice in the Round.

Players prices rise and fall at the end of the round for players who played.

  8. A couple of Twitter handles will tweet out the break evens at the end of rounds.

If you are not on Twitter then post in the Coaches box which players BE’s you would like to know and I will supply them before the next round starts.

  15. Henriques has sustained a hamstring injury. Popular bench cashcow Wildermuth has been added to the Aus A squad so will miss the first 2 games now.

Ashton Turner 62k looks his best replacement (Bat only) so might need some DPP magic.

    • you did say last year that it was the only time you’d play!! I have stuck to my guns and refused to play again this year … it’s just too random, with more luck than anything – too many problems with match start times, not available on all TV formats etc and difficulty with round fixture starts and times, access to BE’s etc … and this year they have the rule changes I saw in the coverage start which means players can be subbed in and out of teams mid match!! So you may get donuts!!

Anyway champ – all the best with your second tilt – you’re a braver (more patient) man than me!! Have a great Chrissy mate and I’ll see you for the real stuff in the AFL SC!!

  17. As many of you know, I am widely recognised as one of the GOAT Supercoah AFL players, with only my modesty vying for equal top billing as my greatest personal trait. However, I am also very humble and must admit BBL is not one of my great strengths.
In that regard, I have a question and apologise in advance if it displays a level of BBL ineptitude.

Does BBL have a rolling lockout each round like AFL, or must all trades be done before the first game ?

    Humbly,

    Wighty

    Bruce and Macca….shut the f up !!!

    • BBL has rolling lockouts, so can save trades and use captain / VC loopholes, etc. Though i feel the best chance is to just roll the dice on your best DGW player(s).

I went Maxwell in Round 1; Short in round 2; and this seemed to work. At the moment I have Khan for round 3 as i hope he’ll have a big couple of games.

Question: Is there anywhere they publish the team lineups prior to each game / round? I’ve been googling like crazy but there seems to only be the squad lists from what I can tell :(. Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.

  18. Confirmed Alex Carey is not in the Strikers Squad for tomorrow nights game against the Heat due to missing the 1am cut off to enter Brisbane with the Covid restrictions.

He was the most traded in player for the round and hopefully nobody Captained Carey as he was the 3rd most Captained player for the Round behind Khan and Siddle.

    • Just completes what is an awful season for me with c on Carey….at least he got one game in and I might still squeeze a win. Surely Adelaide stand in keeper can somehow be substituted for him under the circumstances ??

    • Bruce, I was travelling nicely till Carey was an out. Also had Lynn..Fraser McGurk was e and he was used as sub for c loop Pucovski. Oppt had neither and what was looking like a comfortable 100pt win became a 17 pt loss !!

Ah well, at SC gold is open !!

Big chance to break my duck…..even with a donut !!

  20. I’ve had another ordinary one Wighty, M.Marsh, Inglis , Khawaja and Hughes all under 10. You can carry 1 or 2 dud scores but 4 is too many , plus getting the C right is as important as in AFL SC. I’m resigned to my fate as an ordinary BBL SC player.

  21. On another note…last night showed up another BBL anomaly. When it rains, the team batting first gets all its SC scores, but the team batting second and having overs reduced, suffers in a SC way as the middle order bats miss out. In AFL, even when it pi55es down, there are still 3300 pts per game to go around regardless.

    • Yep , and in afl game an ordinary game still scores a 60 or 70 , in bbl you can easily get squat even if you do some great fielding .

  22. And so to this round. Didn’t know Fletcher was out and had already traded FMG out to raise cash. V on Maxy again and C loop used with Labuschagne e on bench. Except I had the e on the wrong bench player. Miss Labuschagne 100+pts and
    Fletcher gets me another donut.
