SCTTL : Final Wrap

Written by JimmyDee on August 26 2024

That’s it for the Tech League 2024 and who would have thought that a solitary point would sort out the winner for this season?

Matt’s Chips Ahoy! looking to become the only multiple winner, needed 116 points to catch Tom’s (Emma) Tortured Tech but ultimately fell one short.

The difference in this one came down to the choice of captain. Tom showed what desperation and no trades can do by rejecting a safe Xerri 123 as VC and punting on Lachie Whitfield for a thirty point gain. Matt, on the other hand, chose to keep a safe 122 by Big Max when seven players in his side eventually surpassed that score and would have dragged him across the line in an epic finish to the year.

Bad luck to Chips Ahoy! but a hearty congratulations to Tortured Tech for leading a lot of the way and having the strongest of finger nails to hang on by at the end. Another past champion, Troy Butler, with his team David Johnson Rules, finalised the last podium position.

What a brilliant Tech Season. Fewer than 350 points separated the first five in one of the most even seasons in recent memory, mirroring the AFL itself.

Weekly top spots for this last round in order were Dean Stewart’s alter ego Joy’s “Stevie Wright” with a massive 2669; Dawn’s  (Wayne) Killer Bees on 2591; Champ’s Chumps by Greg B with 2563; Troy’s David Johnson Rules with 2545 and rounding out the top five for the last time this year, Matt’s Chips Ahoy! with 2544

A big thanks to all who played so well this year. A massive group of fifty started the season and I estimate that 80% stayed till the end in a tribute to this format and the competition it provides right to the end.

Hope to see you all next year and if you have any ideas for a new Tech theme, throw them in the comments or email me at jimmydeeatsupercoachtalkdotcom to discuss them

Tom, as winner you get to have selection input for next year, but for the time being send me your bank details for me to organise your prize.

Enjoy the off season everyone.

  1. Wow, what a finish!

Great stuff for organizing all year and congrats to TC.

I withdrew my entry after a shameful start lol – I don’t know how you guys do it!

Great job, all. Have tacked this report on the league results post. Prize for winner!

  2. Well done Tom & Matt, incredible seasons. Thank you JimmyDee for organising too, it’s a great format and a lot of fun.

The only idea I have for 2025 is a mid-priced madness type of team, starting nobody over $500k (potentially having a floor like $300k or $200k even). Would make the teams look very different from our classic ones! But I’ve enjoyed the line-ups for the last couple of seasons so I’ll be happy with whatever is provided.

I’ll be playing again in 2025!

  3. Thank you JimmyDee for organising a wonderful competition that keeps the interest in when our main teams go to pot (mine did at least).
Had a very tense final day driving from Melbourne to Adelaide trying to track scores and thought it was gone at many points through the day.
If you’ve never had a crack, join in next season for a very fun challenge.

  4. Congratulations Tom and thanks Jimmy Dee for all of your work throughout the year.
My SCTT team finished 2000 places above my own team so next year I might skip three months of chopping and changing my team and just wait for you to tell us who to start with.

    1. I was thinking the same Greg! Fortunately my classic team managed to pull ahead of the tech team at the end, just.

      1. Mine finished a good 8k behind my tech side, might be something in letting someone else pick the starters.

Maybe we can start next year with the AFL premiers???
