Time To Move On

Just a quick note to say that I have stepped down from my role of running this magnificent website. After 16 years, I just don’t have the time anymore to devote to it.

That doesn’t mean the website will be shutting down. But more on that later…

When SuperCoachTalk first began in May, 2009 there was just 2 of us: myself and Duck. We’d comment on each other’s posts because no one was visiting the site at that stage. One day, our first comment appeared from someone other than us! It was a joyful moment to realise other people were visiting.

As more and more people started dropping past, the demand for fresh content grew and so we added to the writing team. Our first addition was Big Sexy and then we persuaded regular reader MJ to come on board. Every now and then we’d have a lunch together. Ostensibly to talk about strategy for the site but in reality it was to have a few beers with mates and tell a few stories. They were fun times. Here’s a pic of me, Duck (on the left), and Big Sexy (on the right) at The George Hotel in South Melbourne in 2012.

We realised stats were a hole in our offering so we brought Nath in around 2012. For a couple of years we were a one stop shop for all things SuperCoach but we went back to being just a forum in around 2015 when Nath moved on.

You wouldn’t know it (or maybe you would) but it hasn’t always been smooth sailing behind the scenes for SCT on a technical front. In 2015 I put the call out for help with WordPress and a bloke named Chips Ahoy! put his hand up. He’s been helping me ever since. He has spent hundreds of hours in the background since then making sure the site stays up and operates smoothly. He’s never asked for anything in return. If there was one bloke I’d attribute the longevity of the site to, it’s him. He’s one of the good guys who I make a point of catching up with at the beginning of every season to compare our first teams. Thank you for everything you’ve done, mate.

Over the years we’ve had plenty of writers who have done an outstanding job of informing and entertaining us: Thommo, Schwarzwalder, All Saints, Huttabito, The Salamander, and Freo Tragic to name a few. Even Chips was writing a captaincy post for us for a while. Writing for SCT is a demanding job and it’s inevitable that peoples’ circumstances change so I never begrudge anyone who tells me they’re ready to move on. Fortunately, we’ve always had other members of our brilliant community who were ready to step into their shoes.

Which brings me to the current writing team: Father Dougal, Chillo, Gunboat Diplomacy, Abs, Chaos Theory, Dane, Jimmy Dee, and Alza. Thank you all for your support and many hours of insightful writing over the journey, my friends.

Finally, I want to thank the people in our unbelievable community who, over the 16 years I’ve been running the site, have amazed me with their support and kindness. In particular I want to single out Catta, Hawker, The Death Adder, Fishtopher, Chameleon, Weendog, Deano, Mutley, Yiorgakis, PA, Roo Bloke, Koray, Chonks, Fiona, Bonsai, Andy B, sodes, Walkabout, Lisa, Raj, Natopotato88, Matteo, Macca, and David from SuperCoach Champion rings. There’s probably many, many more that I’ve missed and for that I apologise. If you’ve ever done anything to help us out – thank you so much!

Which brings me to what’s happening in 2026. None of the current writing team felt they had the bandwidth to take on the running of the site so I thought that was it. But I’d mentioned to Catta that I was winding up and he’d had a quiet word to DR of SuperCoach With DR fame. If you’ve been with us for awhile, you may remember DR as Daniel’s Riches – our LoEC3 champion in 2014.

Having been a long time member of our community and with fond memories of how much the site had helped him back in his formative years of playing SC, DR can now add the title of SCT CEO to his resume. I, for one, am so glad that the site is going to continue in his capable hands.

Joining him on the writing team will be Father Dougal and Jimmy Dee. If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a part of the writing team in 2026, please get in touch with me here.

And I’ll still be around. Not just reading the site and maybe even commenting from time to time but also helping out DR to ensure the transition is seamless.

Thanks for reading. I’ll see you around.

  1. All the best Motts! I have many good memories both reading and writing for this website, this truly is the best place on the internet for Supercoach content, in large part to all of your hard work. Also couldn’t have picked a better man than DR to step up and take the role, can’t wait to see what the future holds!

    • Thank you mate. And thank you for writing for us. My honest belief (and I know DR shares this) is that it’s SCT’s community that makes us so awesome. Let’s face it, you can get SC info from a variety of places these days. But there aren’t too many places you can go to interact with other SC nuts who genuinely want to help you get better.

  2. I appreciate all the work you’ve put into this site. You have made a major contribution to the Supercoach community that thousands of people will be thankful for!
The countless hours of effort went into fixing any issues to keep this site optimal cannot be surpassed. I kept coming back every year because of how well this site was run.

It’s a shame to see you step down, but I believe this site will still be in great hands.

Thanks for all of your contribution Motts and all supporting members over the years! You have left an amazing legacy

  3. Say it ain’t so Motts!
What en epic journey over the last 16 years. I still remember stumbling onto this site around 2012 or so and thinking I’d hit the jackpot.
I’ll carry some great memories from the fun of the punters club, the lows in all saints to the highs of finishing top 500 and winning supercoach finals way back in 2015 thanks mainly to this community.
Thanks so very much for everything mate.
You’re leaving the site in good hands!

  4. Motts,

I found this site in 2016 after a couple of seasons of mediocrity and haven’t looked back due to the great content and advice this site has provided. It’s always a shame when life gets in the way of the things we have loved to do, but you and the team have done a great job and you should feel very proud.

We didn’t really get the chance to give thanks to this year’s contributors, it is largely a thankless job but you have helped a lot of people, not everyone is going to agree with everything you say, but it takes a lot of dedication and heart to keep putting out content and opinions each week and you all do a great job. Thank-you to you all.

Over the years a lot of content creators in this space have come and gone (websites, socials, podcasts), but this site has always been a constant. It is great to hear the baton is being passed to some of the most capable hands – welcome DR, I look forward to seeing the next evolution of this community.

    Bring on 2026!

    • Cheers KB. I used to watch all the other SC commentators go by the wayside and wonder when my time would come. I’m happy to have made it as far as I did.

  5. All the best Motts, with all your future endeavours.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this amazing site.
To all the other contributors, present and past, wishing you the very best. Thank you for everything.

Thanks to the SCT community for making this site what it is. Have a successful 2026 and beyond.

I am pleased that the site will continue it would have been a huge loss if it had folded.

I am unsure of my future but hopefully a decision will be made towards years end.
I appreciated the community support and your comments. I hope that I was helpful with your Supercoach teams.

Have a great break and an exceptional 2026.

    Cheers

    CT.

  6. Good onya Motts. Thx for every single thing .. with DR stepping in your “child” is in good hands .. DR must have a very supportive family with the amount of time he spends on his other commitments .. a true gentleman with great passion for the game. And he’ll be on a high with his Lion’s success.
    You will be missed

  7. This is indeed a watershed moment for SCT. And while I know DR, GD, Abs and the team above will do it justice, just won’t be the same without you Motts. Thanks for all your help throughout the years, especially in the early days with our Draft league, which is still going strong and kicked up another gear with EPL.

Thanks again and all the best

  9. Oh man, I came to this page thinking it was a trade summay/chat with that title. Now im sitting here all welled up reading through the thread.

Wishing you all the best with you future endeavours. You can be proud of everything you achieved with SuperCoachTalk. I can still remember our very first phone call before you bought me onto the writing team setting up your expectations of me. Your passion and love for the site has bought it to what it is today and i am glad I’ve been along for part of the ride with you. You’ve left it in safe hands with DR and the current writing team. I’ve seen the same passion and love for everything else you do (work/quiz hosting etc) that is know you’ll continue to strive in whatever elese you pick up.

I’ve been lucky to meet up a couple of times with yourself, MJ, Thommo and GD over the years for lunch – you’ve built a fantastic community. Flick me a text if you are ever over in WA and I’ll take you to my favourite whiksy bar for a nip or three. You are one of the good ones mate, a true blue Aussie bloke and will be missed.

    • Aw shucks, Hutta, thank you mate. I will definitely take you up on that offer if I’m ever over your way. The same invitation is extended to you if you’re ever in Adelaide. Have I mentioned my brother owns the best whisky bar in the state?

  10. Just returned from an overseas trip and jumped on here to see if anything has been happening since just before the AFL finals when I last checked in – and saddened to read this post Motts – but like ALL coaches who visit this site as regularly as I do during the season , extremely grateful for all that you and the team have achieved over the years. As a long time visitor to SCT, this remains hands down the best site for all SC matters, mainly due to interaction between coaches and writers, and for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors, and thank you again for all your contributions over many years, and hope to still see your name pop up in comments in season 2026.

  11. Motts – just want to add a quick comment to the very deserved chorus of congratulations and thanks for your efforts over the years. Like many here, I stumbled on this site years ago and have never left it due to the considered content and the obvious fun many have in commentary.
Too any of the other writers who may also ‘hang up their pen’…a huge thanks of appreciation in advance.
