  1. Would you bring in Warner if you already have Rankine,JHF, Petracca, B smith, j Macrea, c Daniel

    TU – no
    TD yes

I’m holding Daniel for now so he’s not a sideways option.

    • that is what i was thinking. He isn’t super cheap and he will be taking a place in the midfield, meaning you would need to spend at least another $100k to have a ‘keeper’ midfielder. or even $30k more you can get Dunkley who is a genuine premium with a great run. if it wasn’t for his DPP no one would be looking at him

the other option would be to hold him for a bit of a price rise and trade him later, but is two trades worth it?

    • I’m leaning towards yes because I look at it that I can easily move any of the 6 to my midfield as all are DPP. Then when it’s time to trade in Bont or Butters, decide who is the weakest link out of mids or forwards to trade out, or keep that player as a handy bench position for mid or fwd.

Warner is a frustrating player to own – I had him last year, but his ceiling is great for the price he is at now.

  3. Better trade in this week?

    Tu: Bice > Sinclair
    Td: Levi Ashcroft > Merrett

Will likely target the other one in the next 1-2 weeks. Merrett lower BE but runs into Jordon this week, surely Sinclair due to this reason?
Also thinking Bice has less money to be made than Lashcroft from here..

  5. Looking Marshall (Flex) & Sinclair (Def) this week
    Already have Macrae & NWM.

    Is that too many Sainters?

Logically breaking them all down, they all should be top of their line or their abouts. Marshall is a flex pick at a basement price who I prefer over Warner. Has the potential to do 110+ from here on in and also has the best bye (Round 13).

Surely Sinclair is still a top 6-8 defender at worst from here? Saints fans, any insight to the drop off in scoring the last few weeks or is it simply just a patch we see most players go through at some point throughout the season?

  8. I have far too many spuds in my midfield atm. Currently have Serong, Rowell and Soligo doing sweet FA. I’m backing Serong to get it together but unsure on the other two.
Rowell has a BE of 186 and will lose a heap of coin this week while i’ve held Soligo through his cash loss already. What should I do?

TU – Trade Rowell to Bont/Butters type
TD – Trade Soligo to Bont/Butters type
Comment – Hold both Rowell and Soligo (and pray they get it together) and trade Lashcroft up to Bont/Butters?

    • Team looks ok for the most part but a bit thin in defence and the POD of Witts isn’t quite working out. Might be worth sideways trading him to Gawn or Xerri during byes whenever the money works but hold for now.
This week, I’d be trading out Flynn and Prior, bring in a premo defender like NWM, Sinclair or Zorko and then whatever rookie looks appealing to you whether it’s going early on Boxshall, Lorenz or Fonti or hoping for someone like Erasmus to get back in the team

Give Fonti/Hardeman/Hayes a look this week if you need a DEF rookie. Carroll likely dropped.

    • Honestly? Neither.

I started Ando. One nice score and flat as a tack since. Hasn’t ruined me or anything but disappointing.

Dunks only 1x score over 120 and he’s now more a role player now than at any point in his career. Even had his CBAs cut in half two weeks ago.

Can you stretch to Ed Richards? Or grab Sinclair as a MID and swing him down back eventually.

Unless you’re getting demolished OF, I don’t think this is the time for 500-530k MIDs. At this rate we’ll all end up with 4-6 M8 types.

      I think the move is:

      1) Ensure you’ve got the meta FWD line (Rankine, Smith, JHF, Macrae, Racca/Warner)

      2) Pick up Sinclair cheap, ride out Bice and Reid

      3) Shore up CG, keep rookies live and prepare for byes (Hustwaite, Erasmus, Boxshall, Fonti, etc.)

      4) Wait on MIDs. See where the Top 8 starts to fall, hope Bont/Butters stumble or even just to 2x flat tons and start to fall

      5) Even consider pausing trades and just taking a spell and doing #4 this week and/or the next

Obviously that’s very general but gotta balance, yes, value and racing to FP against actually targeting Top 6/8 players.

Top 8 MIDs, in no particular order: Bont, Butters, Daicos, Brayshaw, Zerrett, Hewett, McCluggage, Libba, Neale.

        • Ya. Did put them in no particular order but actually DO have Cluggers over Neale.

Mainly due to tags. Neale cannot withstand a tag at all this year and Cluggers won’t really get tagged – Saints the only one to try so far.

Would be a great get this week.

        • Hi, Michelle.

Assuming you’ve got Flynn in flex?

You need some scoring power. A MID. Probably permissible for you to go for someone above the 550k sort of threshold I’ve been otherwise advising people not to pay over.

          Davidson -> Erasmus (255k ITB)
          Lindsay -> Boxshall (393k ITB)

From there, it’s up to you. You can boost and tack that money onto Lash or SPP for an upgrade or hold the boost and do it next week. Both Lash and SPP will be good on field this week.

I like boosting a MID in for you. McCluggage maybe?

Whether you’ve got Flynn in flex and he plays is also key.

Nothing to do with one another. He’s not a midfielder.

He’s a key position player. Played down back and then up forward.

Wrong time, unclear role, steep price.

Warner suits my bye structure better, however I already have 6 fwds. Plan with this play will be to potentially move out someone like a Daniel as my last upgrade. I already have NWM, Macrae and very possibly Sinclair this week too. If I grab Marshall, it will leave me with 4 saints players.

      Been thinking about it too.

Reckon no just because i) Reid and Bice are stable OF, ii) Coleman’s injury profile and iii) the poor timing of a midpricer in the middle of upgrade season.

Still could be a super out of the box move to raw dog him. Watch him play a super stationary role to ease him back in and he feasts v Roos ahaha.

    • I know the prevailing wisdom is not to target these $700K monsters (Bont, Butters, Gawn) because cash gen is expected to dry up and full premium will be impossible. A few thoughts:

When you buy one of these guys, it should be with the expectation that they will be a captaincy option every week. If you don’t think that’s the case, then you should avoid. But if you do, then you’re actually buying two of them for that price, which shifts the equation a bit in their favour.

Second, passing on these guys now is with the expectation that they will eventually come down in price and be gettable later. But for Bont in particular, this is potentially a dangerous assumption. The CHEAPEST that Bontempelli has been since the start of the 2023 season is $610K. So yes, you could wait and save yourself a few bucks – and miss out on all those points in the meantime. Older heads will remember a similar situation with the likes of Ablett and Pendlebury, who many coaches often pointlessly bought late in the season when they were “affordable”.

Finally, Bont has the Round 12 bye (as does Butters). It really does need to be considered because it’s a killer this year.

As you can tell, I’m all for picking Bont up this week and if I could afford to do it myself, I probably would!

      • Agreed. The issue with bring in Warner with a full forward line is we are committing to using another trade to move out someone like a Daniel in the future. Not sure that’s worth it, especially considering Daniel could outscore him on any given day. The other option would be keeping Warner in the flex spot, however I think that spot can be better utilised.

Merrett this week guarantees grabbing him but also saves me at least one boost over the next two weeks and gives me another look at Sinclair this week before committing to him next week at a cherry ripe price.
