  1. Was thinking of trading out Steele for cripps but his last qtr saved him I reckon. Have a couple of players I feel the need to move on early whilst I can;

    Gov > Xerri
    Chapman > Bowey
    Whitfield > Hall

    1. I dont think so Mick, lots of dees defenders to come back and he scored 50 the week before.

      1. The only one that I believe could effect his scoring is Salem who is still a little while away at this stage. Bowey is very very tempting considering the cash gen he is already set to make!

        1. If he scores 80s, he’ll max out around $400k, making $130-140k. Will make a min. $80k.

If you have Gibcus at D6, then might be an option. If it pushes McCartin off-field then it may not be worth it.

      1. Lever and hibberd to miss this week and with Salem out for another two months, Bowey could generate some good cash

  2. Think this week for me might look a little like:

    Chapman – Bowey
Berry – Brodie (to help fund the below)
    Ward – Xerri

    1. Heeney not getting many CBAs, so will need to keep kicking goals to score. More likely to drop a 50-60 than Cripps you’d think.

  3. Is the Honey Pot / Heeney Pot going to tempt me again this year? Sure is! I have some rage trades and I’m not afraid to use them! Berry isn’t performing quite as well as I’d hoped in the mids, so could become Cripps or Heeney. Both the same price, Heeney has scored more but is less likely to get the head bandage of INFERNO! No one plays better when banged up than Cripps.

    TU: Heeney
    TD: Cripps

    1. Love the LMac pick.

Won’t be able to afford him if I get Cripps or Heeney but he’s #3 in my trade targets….

      1. He sort of stuffed me this week as I traded him in rather than Cripps.

Both are good trades, but Cripps obviously scored more this week.

Cripps in this week, now have both, problem solved.

LMac hopefully round 6 dpp to backline.

      1. Yeah he should’ve scored way better. Been fumbling balls and frustrating me. At first I though trade but I’m sure he’ll start clunking marks soon. Maybe slightly over valued bur he’s not going to drop many 80s.

Mids – macrae, steele, touk, neale, berry, jhf, daicos, stephens (ward, Hough, MacDonald)
    Rucks – gawndy (Dixon)
Forwards – dunkley, Treloar, butters, coniglio, rachelle, Brodie (hayes, Martin)
27k in bank. Obvious moves would be to get Crippa in. Let me know what you guys would suggest!!

  7. Not sold on Whitfield and would love to get Hewett in before his price rise.

TU: Whitfield into Hewett and pocket the extra 100k for down the track.

    TD: Whitfield into Short/Docherty

Would love to get Aaron Hall but can’t afford him without swinging a second trade somewhere else. If I could find a good downgrade for Heath Chapman to make the 25k I need maybe?

    1. Alternatively…how about

      Darcy > English
      Whitfield > Hewett
      Chapman > Short

Maybe brave in the ruck department but at this point I can’t back Darcy to stay on the field. Dogs playing English without Martin was encouraging to me too

    2. Must admit, this week I’ve pulled the pin on Gawn, and bought in Jackson.
Dpp, in great form, will make cash and not lose it. Just the cash generation helped me to upgrade Chapman into Hewitt- who I see as a probable long term keeper- with great JS and cash generation.
Backline looks better, Rucks look solid- have Preuss as back up and he played well in twos and should be in this week. Also left with extra cash from Gawn downgrade- over $100k
Feeling that with Jackson, Hayes and possibly Preuss as DPP, I’ll have great options and flexibility.

      Quick question on Trading Gawny..
Thumbs up- left with great options
      Thumbs down- live to regret!

  9. Team is a bit of a mess. The way I see it, I’ve got two options and I think I hate them both equally:

    Whitfield, Berry and Ward OUT
Bowey, Cripps and (one of JHF or Xerri or NMartin) IN

    OR

Gawn, Berry and Ward OUT, Hayes goes to R2
Cripps, Heeney and (rookie under $200K) IN

If anyone has any better suggestions, I’m wide open here….

    13

    7
    1. I think Hayes to R2 and Gawn out is a little redhot this early in the season and could hurt you big time long term, especially when Paddy Ryder gets back.

      18

      0
    2. Think Hayes at R2 is way too risky. Ryder did play in the VFL and got through fine from reports. I am also in a similar predicament to yourself. What about berry > JHF and then then Whitfield into hall? Martin can ultimately wait another week for his price rise. Xerri is one who I’ll be jumping on myself, seems to have cemented down a fair chunk of the ruck role at north.

After all that… I’m suggesting to bring in 3 players from the Roos, who would’ve thought!

      9

      1
    3. With Ryder back, Hayes might not even get a game next week.

Gawn grassed about a hundred contested marks again, but this time in humid conditions so that will turn, and, I reckon he was jipped by CD with a heap of his ruck work and bringing the ball to ground inside 50 that led to goals.

His game wasn’t as bad as his score.

Especially with Hodor out now I’m holding Gawn, but if you want to trade him, this is the best price you’ll get for a while.

      5

      0
    4. Thanks guys. As stated: I hate both of these options! But clearly Whitfield and Gawn have not started the season well and I need to consider correction.

I won’t be picking three Roos though! I think their numbers might fade a bit once they come up against a team that has slightly less COVID running through it…

  11. The abacus is coming out to do the maths on the ruck line. Too much cash tied up in GG set and forget.

    9

    1
        1. Would depend on who your premiums are i guess, i wouldn’t go trading one out to get him in unless you have some that have severely underperformed. I would look to find the cash to upgrade potentially a mid pricer for him.

          8

          1
          1. Thanks Ben, that’s what I would have thought too, but I reckon you lot know how to play things from here much better than me. I certainly don’t want to be unloading Parish or Gawn for him, but thought I’d ask the question.

I’m stoked with my mid pricers too, so I don’t want to be giving up the cash growth there for nothing.

I’m fairly confident that he won’t be finding much free space for the next few weeks, but holy crap, he looks lethal now he’s hunting goals.

            6

            2
    1. Just not running at 100% at the moment for some reason, although he has started seasons slowly in the past. Played great in the last quarter when it counted the most.

I think you have to hold, even though he will drop cash next week.

      15

    2. Steele only had 7 kicks today (vs. 16 handballs). Last week he kicked more but had 9 clangers.

I wonder whether there’s something not right that is hindering his ability to kick? (PS. This is from the data – thank you Fan Footy and Footywire – I haven’t given it the eye test myself.)

I have Steele too Ben. He’s one of my favourite players. But I don’t have Macrae and I’m thinking about making a trade just like you. (I’m top 1% overall at the moment, so it feels like getting this right could be important.)

      5

      1
      1. I’m not quite in the top 1% yet haha but I am quite happy with my start nonetheless. I generally don’t like to trade premos, however I feel like I would be more comfortable having Macrae sitting in my team over Steele atm. Last year I stuck fat with Neale and Cripps and looking back it would have been best to move them on early. Much to ponder for this weeks trades.

  12. I’ve got Hewitt at d4 and 55k, thinking Whitfield down to bowey to free some cash, Berry to Cripps and soligo/owens to stephens.

Use 3 trades? Do it, pull the trigger?

  13. DEF: Crisp, Ridley, Short, Chapman, Hinge, McCartin (Gibcus, De Koning)
MID: Macrae, Miller, Oliver, Neale, Rowell, JHF, Daicos, Stephens (Ward, Macdonald, Parker)
    RUC: Gawn, Grundy (Dixon)
FWD: Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Brodie, Xerri, Rachele (Durdin, Martin)

    $29.5k remaining, 35 trades left.

Mostly very happy with my team, but obviously being the 3rd round is when players will make or lose money afterwards. So I had a couple of changes in mind, but do feel free to comment on any alternatives that you feel might be more beneficial to the ones I’ve listed

TU: Dixon and Chapman > Hayes and Bowey
TD: Gawn and Chapman > English and Hewett

I know Chapman scored 80 last week, but you got to remember he got that last 20 odd points from his game-saving spoil. So it really feels like he’s scored a couple of 50s, and at his price it scares me. Downgrading to Bowey I feel would make a bit more cash for me than leaving Chapman in. I know there’s a few people who are still a bit sceptical with other defenders returning, but I think the real one who effects his role is Salem, and he won’t be back for another 6-8 weeks. So I reckon Bowey in that time frame has at least a higher ceiling than Chapman.

BUT, one other issue is kinda buggin’ me. I’m getting the feeling that Luke Jackson’s growing impact is now starting to take a bad effect on Gawn’s scoring. 92 and 88 aren’t scores that one would usually be unimpressed by with most players, but being Max Gawn you’d usually expect him to be getting 120 each game at the very minimum. I know it’s only the start of the year, but with how Jackson’s form is right now, I’m a little fearful about the rest of the year. Plus Gawn is already looking to lose quite a bit of money.
If I was to trade Gawn, my first thought was to get Darcy. But after Darcy’s injury today, I think that’s thrown out the window. Next candidate is Tim English, who’s scored 123 and 99 so far, and looks to have a decent ceiling with Stefan Martin not sharing the ruck duties with him. If was to make this trade, this would allow me to upgrade Chapman to Hewett, who’s been absolutely brilliant so far with scores of 117 and 131.

As a said though, if there’s better alternatives, please let me know

    13

    6
    1. For me with rucks I always look at who’s got the best midfield to hit to.

All 4 UPs from last year have issues Gawn has Jackson, Darcy is injured and Nic Nat/Grundy are on mostly bad teams and rucks need good mids to hit to.

People like Marshall but his scoring goes away when Ryder returns.

For me I’d be looking at Tom Hickey. Is good for 100 points a game. Has a good midfield and the round 13 bye.

      Nice POD as well

  14. To use Cosmo Kramer language :
“there is some cukoo talk ” happening in this thread.
Only one thing is certain with rage trading premos, that is you will have one less trade.
Remember – you picked your premos for a reason.

    17

    2
      1. Yep, if I rage traded Cripps this time last year I wouldn’t have spent the entire season (unsuccessfully) trying to trade him out. Absurd I’m now considering trading him in, bloody supercoach! Gotta love it!!

        18

        0
  15. Considering getting aggressive and trading Gawn – I know this is his floor but downgrading him allows me to bring in Hewett + Neale this week (ashamed that I have neither). So if you had to pick one:

    T/U – Tim English
    T/D – Luke Jackson

    Comment – anyone else

  16. I completely butchered my comment in a rush of rage/excitement above so I’m going again haha. Thoughts on

    Darcy > English
    Whitfield > Hewett
    Chapman > Hall

Have no faith in Darcy to consistently be on the park for the amount he costs, want to get on Hewett pre price rise, and Aaron Hall looks to be good for it.

    15

    1
    1. MPS. I’d be concerned with Hall’s ability to stay on the park given his hamstring injury history – he did one again in pre-season.

And this from The Strength Institute of Western Australia, quoting a study by Foreman and others…

“Previous (hamstring) injuries ended up as the most definitive risk factor for re-injury. Those who had previously sustained a hamstring injury were 5-times more likely to re-injure their hamstring than others.”

      So, something to consider.

  18. Sadly I’m 3.3k short of doing McGovern to Cripps so need another trade to get the funds:

TU: Ward to Martin who I’ll need to bring in next week anyway
TD: Whitfield to Heeney by swinging McCartin back

    24
    1. Whitfield & McGovern to Cripps & Heeney is an epic trade in my opinion! 100% go through with that Johno!

      1

      0
  19. TU: Whitfield to Hewitt, Pruess to xerri, ward to brodie
TD: Whitfield to Hewitt & either ward or pruess to xerri

(English is R2 with Hayes on bench)

Think based on the past 2 weeks I need Hewitt in my side, I would like Xerri as It gives me good flexibility once he gets DPP. Brodie just looks like a really good option – not sure if he’ll keep it up?

    2

    7
    1. Preuss is Ruck only Xerri is Forward only. Trade is not possible while you have English and Hayes in your rucks.

If Hayes is in your forward Bench, then this is possible. You don’t make this clear.

While it is likely that Xerri WILL get dpp it is not a guarantee at this stage.

      1

      7
      1. Hey HH,

Hayes is currently in the forward line, if pruess is punted Hayes will go in as English’s backup.

Even if Xerri doesn’t get DPP, I think he is a good rookie like forward to have and will make more money than ward or pruess?

        6

        0
        1. As you have Hayes in the Forwards then this works fine. The only real question then becomes if Ryder comes back this week having played in the VFL.

I think Hayes still keeps a spot in the best 22 as a forward, but the role change might mean changes to scoring.

Xerri is definitely a good option at -77 Breakeven and a good role. Well worth having in your side. Hewett looks like a must too so overall this is a great trade IMHO.

          2

  20. Non rage trade but more suring up lines and allowing cash generation.

    McGovern to Xerri
    Berry to Cripps
    Whitfield to Hewitt

    $40k left over

Leaves Daicos and JHF at M7 & M8 with Ward and Stephens on bench and Xerri, Brodie and Rachele at F4-F6 with Martin and Hayes/Dixon on the bench.

    1. Thumbs up because I think he needs to go.
Not 100% sure on the Bowey trade, I haven’t watched enough of him.

Trac looks irresistible and will definitely be a better pick than Wines this season. Just need to weigh up though how many PPG you’re likely to gain rest of season and whether it justifies a trade.

      5

      1. bowey defo a price thing.
Fine to holds wines but Trac does look irrestible.

Both can be deemed trigger happy trades.

  23. Serong – Brayshaw
    Whitfield – Hall
    Berry – Martin

I really wanted Hall and Brayshaw from the start, but couldn’t fit them in without sacrificing Cripps. I was reluctant on Whitfield but caved to peer pressure. He may average 100, but will more than likely miss 5 games with an injury at some point. Pretty keen on this trade barring H&S protocols

    1. 1 faltering premo (Whitfield) plus 2 low midpricers (Berry is still going to make coin) for 2 premos and a rookie… Sounds like a good deal to me.
Cripps has proven to be durable, Heeney is the right age, but Skinner’s job security is a bit unknown and port lost badly.

      2

      1
  25. Whitfield, Chapman, Berry > Cripps, Hewitt, Bowey.

Already have Crisp, Ridley, and Short in Defence. Macrae, Steele, and Touk as mids.

    6

    2
  26. Parish has done nothing wrong and hate trading premos, but after 2 rounds this may be necessary to make some other corrections. Do we think Cripps can actually average anywhere close to on par with parish for a whole year because If so it’s a correctional trade that gives me the cash I need to make some necessary changes.

    9

    0
    1. I hear you, Kev.

If I trade Parish to Cripps and Whitfield to Hewitt, I then have enough cash to go Durdin to Witts or Jackson. I think I need to do this, as I cannot rely on Hayes or Dixon as R2.

With Merrett now out injured, how will this effect Parish with more attention coming his way?

      7

      0
      1. Probably won’t do much to Parish since sheil wasn’t playing last game. Essendon have enough similar 180cm mids that if one is out another will just enter

        2

        0
    2. Cripps has proven to be a premium in ’18 and ’19 and is still a good age.
It’s who you think will score more from now on and if you think Cripps, then will it be significantly more to warrant a trade?
Otherwise you can wait and if he’s still going gang-busters trade him then as a trade target.

      1

      3
  27. Simply need to make some quick amendments.

    T/U – Whitfield & Ward -> Neale & Bowey
T/D – Whitfield, Baldwin & Steele -> Hall, Brodie and Neale

Leaning towards the T/U, basically just fixing the error of not starting Neale (whoops) and instead having Shitfield.

Open to comments/suggestions of the sorts.

    16
    1. Don’t think it’s smart having so much dead money on the bench. This isn’t profit it’s money you didn’t use. TD is the only option that makes sense.

If you are sideswapping both Dusty and Whitfield I’d hold Steele (unless he’s injured) You bought him at what you thought was good value for the season. Let him get there

      3

      2

What are people’s thoughts on Berry?

  35. There’s no trades I need to make this week. I’m considering the following

    Gawn > English
    Whitfield > Hewett
    Ward > Cripps

Logical side of me is saying Gawns had two weeks were he’s had a few clangers / frees against in rd 1 and dropped a fair few marks in rd 2 so his scoring will surely improve.

Would have loved to see how hewett and Cripps scored with cerra and Walsh also in the mids (as a blues supporter can’t wait to see this).

    What do we think?

T/u – do it, play aggressive
T/d – be safe, keep your trades for when you need it.

    8

    6
    1. If you want to be aggressive I think the play is to trade Grundy for Jackson.

Gawn Jackson just need to average a combined 210 to be fair value and they have so far this season.

Gawn seems to have a higher scoring potential then Grundy due to Goals/better team.

Last year the best advice I received was always try to trade towards security even when taking risk. Jackson has a known role and ceiling. Plus acts as a buffer against a poor Gawn game. English is subject to a potential positional change where he does poorly.

Just make sure you have enough R/F cover aka Xeri/Hayes and a non playing R/F for if they both get Covid the same week

Besides we have 5 extra trades this year. If you don’t use every booster that’s only 4.5 rounds of no trades.

If you didn’t trade last week you only have to wait until week 7 until you can start blowing through trades

    2. These are both too sideways. There is every chance that Steele and Whitfield outscore Docherty and Cripps ROS.

I think you make max one of these. As an owner of both I’d prioritise Whitfield over Steele

  41. Rayner > N Martin
    Berry > Cripps
Whitfield > Houston or J McGovern

as a lions fan its killing me to trade out my players but i think Rayner is a low pos player that will impact on the field but wont add up to many big scores
Berry is going to be used as a loose tagger and once again good for the team but no good for SC scoring

im really reluctant to trade out whitfield as we all know what he can do when hes up and going having said that im tossing up between houston who i had last year and can be quite inconsistent in his scoring and McGovern who will never give me a 150 but with Eagles feeding the ball through him will always give me 80+ and avg 100+ and with only 1.1% ownership a POD

  42. Does this make any sense? (I have Xerri, Hewett already so they’re not a target)
Ward is a slow burn, not going to make much cash. Berry ?? Such an unknown.

  43. Alright it’s Monday I’m absolutely gutted with the efforts of Titch and having some pretty big decisions ahead..

His role has changed whether that’s due to Sam Mitchell coming in or an injury affected pre season I do not know.
But two sub 80 scores for 640k is not tolerable.

  45. Just the one corrective trade for me: McGovern to Xerri.

Happy to be proven wrong about Cripps/Heeney. Just don’t see them keeping this up for an extended period of time. My real only downgrade candidate, Berry, is doing just fine. He’ll find the ball soon enough and will make some good $$ before the culling season.

  46. I haven’t caught either of the GWS games. What’s going on with a Whitfield, playing out of position or just not getting near it?

It’s the obvious trade this week to Hewett for me. But I am just not sure at this early stage..

  47. I’m doing Whitfield and Chito Owens to Hewett and Rachele.

It’s actually a very smart trade that sets up my team well from a cash generation standpoint, it’s fully not me rage trading a premium that I never wanted in the first place.

  52. TU: Steele to Cripps, Whitfield to Hewitt & Durdin via DPP to Witts (leaves me with $103k in the bank for future upgrades).
TD: Parish to Cripps, Whitfield to Hewitt & Durdin via DPP to Witts (leaves me with $38k in the bank).

I hate trading premos, but I cannot afford to rely on Hayes or Dixon as R2. I’m leaning towards the first option, as Steele is projected to drop nearly $45k and having just over $100k in the bank is going to be very handy for future upgrades.

Don’t think i can get Cripps and have good cash gen so i’ll just get him at the byes

    At this stage thinking
    Chapman to Bowey,
Mcgovern to one of rachelle or Hinge (SDK swing)
Whitfield to Hewett or Young (Freo) mainly for his bye and the ability so sideswap.

gives me 200k in the bank next week (should have done the GOV trade week 1) to turn Mcinnerny into a defensive premo on his bubble

    1. Definitely Whitfield

Gawn had 12 contested possies but went at 44% efficiency this past weekend. Also spilled some marks. Has a very similar ruck split to last season.

Tu: Steele to Cripps to generate cash for McGovern to English (FWD)
TD: McGovern to Rachele and save a trade.

    4

    6
  59. Going Semi nuffie this week have to cull Gawn for a cash grab

Gawn- English (3 games in a row if counting JLT) where English has had 20+ disposals looks to be top 6ish fwds so will push him fwd later and grab Gawn again possibly at a cheaper price.)

Shitfield – Bowey (Should make cahs quick i doubt he can do 151 again but 80s isn’t out of the question with Salem out for the interim.

Hough – Cripps (No brainer trade)

    leaves me 75k banked

    325k
98 and 79 to start the year with what seems a good role backline/wing and using the ball well
Is he better than bowey long-term?

    4

    2
    1. He will average more than bowey most likely and have a higher floor, its just whether he scores enough to make the higher price tag worth it

      3

      1
  62. Considering rage trading.

    Gawn -> Witts
    Whitfield -> Hewett
    Berry -> Cripps

Whilst Gawn may be simply out of form, the rise of Luke Jackson leaves me feeling that Gawn’s scoring potential isn’t worth that of $670k whilst Witts should be able to hit consistent 100s and at his price, leaves me with plenty of cash to boost other areas. Whitfield is a pain and I can’t see him being a top 6 defender after his start. With the extra cash I can bring in Cripps who at his price and in his form is a no brainer whilst Berry taking up a tagging role is concerning. I am left with $240k in the bank which gives me more freedom in coming weeks. If I am idiot, thumbs down but if I am maybe a genius, thumbs up! Thanks

  63. This weeks trades. Gov and Whitfield have to go, not overly sold on ditching Parish but it’s the only way to get Cripps, plus Dons play Melbourne and can’t see Parish getting close to his 154 BE.

      2
    2. you don’t trade a premo because their break even is dropping.

The only reason for trading a Premo right now is to find someone who you think will outscore them over the course of the season.

  64. Thinking of using my boost this week to try and fix my team. Didn’t see Whitfield’s game on the weekend but not overly impressed with his scoring so far. Cripps has been a trap in the past but hard to ignore him at his current price. McGovern’s role looks pretty SC friendly but Xerri at 50k less looks the better option at this point. This is what I’m considering:

    Whitfield > Bowey
    Berry > Cripps
    McGovern > Xerri
    $154.8k ITB

    TU: Do it
    TD: Not worth it

Was Bowey’s score on the weekend a once off or do we reckon he’s a good chance to go 85+ regularly?

    11

    0
    1. It depends on how strong the rest of your backs are, bowey will make some cash but not sure i have seen enough to be convinced he will average the 85+ just yet, could be worth the risk if you’re confident the rest of your backs can carry bowey if he has the occasional 55-60.

      2

      0
      1. I think I should have enough cover to make it work but I think it’s the only way I can get both Cripps and Xerri into my team.

This is how my team would potentially look going into round 3:

DEF: Stewart, Crisp, Short, Hewett, BOWEY, McCartin (Hinge, De Koning)
MID: Macrae, Miller, Neale, CRIPPS, Rowell, JHF, Daicos, Rachelle (Ward, Stephens, MacDonald
        RUC: Grundy, English (Dixon)
FWD: Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Brodie, XERRI, Hayes (Durdin, Long)

Long will probably be a straight swap for Nic Martin next week.

        1

        0
        1. So you are basicaly doing 3 corrections

Whitfield > Cripps – Same Bye. Both Injury Prone, Cripps going huge in newly improved midfield with less attention. LIKE THIS

Gov > Bowey – Has a better role and will make you cash/get points until Salem returns. Now a bye sideswap option unlike Gov. LIKE THIS

Berry > Xerri. + Cash. – NOT LIKE THIS.

.You chose Berry For a reason. He’s a reliable 80 + Cash Cow. No point having huge amounts of CITB right now especially with the top teams going >2500/2600

Instead go up Durdin > Xerri. You’d still have 70k left just in case someone gets injured. and you wanted to correct.

Besides next week you are better off correcting Ward to Martin (Long DPP Swing) get the money back then

          2

          3
  65. Gawn > Cripps via DPP (Hayes to R2 for now)

I’m usually completely against premo trades but this is a lot different to a sideways trade. The jury is still out on Gawn even though I do think he will average 110+, I just feel Cripps at 450k being a potential top 8 mid is the biggest bargain I’ve seen in SC for a while and I can net 200k + more points off this one trade. Let me know if you guys think it’s worth it.

    6
  69. TU: Chapman & Ward > Bowey & Hayes
    TD: Gawn, Chapman & Ward > English/Jackson/Witts, Hewett/Cripps, Hayes

    1. Hey all.
Do i really need Xerri ? – will the opposition be as easy as the weekend again?
I already have-Grundy English, Hayes,Dixon, and Pruess and could possibly turn Gibcus into Bowey if i retrieve Pruess.

Thumbs up- Xerri is on the up and can justify trading Pruess

Thumbs down-Save the trade as Pruess should be back this week to stay and will average better than Xerri.

    1. Trade Lipinski to Cripps.

Rowell’s ownership is far too high that you need him and Cripps will be in most if not all of the top teams by the time the weekend starts (He’s the obvious swap from Whitfield.)

      2

      5
      1. Cripps to Lipinski is about 100k

        Gov to Xeri is 48K

If there was no cash in the bank Ward to a 123k rookie mid would get you there

No longer trust Darcy with soft tissue injuries so I’m either looking at English, Witt’s or Jackson as a replacement, if it’s English the extra money will allow me to get Cripps for Berry, if it’s Jackson the extra money will allow me to get Cripps for Berry and Xerri for Baldwin/ Gibcus for Bowrey. The other question I have is if I use I activate a boost trade can I still reverse during the week?
Unsure what the best option is at the moment suggestions welcomed.

    3

    9
  75. Been weighing up a few options this week. I have decided to hold Gawn and have faith he will come good. I am not risking trading him out as I don’t see an obvious trade in option to replace him.

    Steele > Cripps
    Gov > Xerri
    Chapman > Hall

I am not a big fan of chopping Steele, however I would rather replace him with Cripps than replace Gawn with another ruckman at this stage. At least I know Cripps is likely to average 110+ and he will be well over 600k at this rate soon.

Xerri for cash gen over gov is pretty obvious and a simple decision at this point.

Chapman needs to be chopped and if I do it this week I have the opportunity to be able to go upto hall who could easily finish at D1 come the end of the season. Lock and load whilst I can!

    Thoughts appreciated!

  87. Hey folks,
    Current team:
    DEF: J. Crisp (DEF/MID), L. Whitfield (DEF/MID), J. Sicily, G. Hewett (DEF/MID), H. Chapman, M. Hinge, (J. Gibcus (E), S. De Koning (DEF/FWD))

    FWD: J. Dunkley (FWD/MID), Z. Butters, S. Coniglio (FWD/MID), W. Brodie (FWD/MID), T. Xerri, J. Rachele (FWD/MID), (P. McCartin (FWD/DEF) (E), N. Martin)

I am fairly happy with the team to this point. Last week I was confident that this week I would go Dixon > Hayes, but Hayes seems to be largely forgotten. I would still quite like to pick him up as even if he scores 3 more 68’s in a row, he will be at 268k by round 5.
I am not particularly bullish on Bowey, but almost everyone on this site seems to be picking him up, and I often find copying people on the rest of the site is the way to go if I want to do well. Most people seem to be moving Gov on for Bowey, but I do not have Gov so I’m wondering if getting him in is just excessive trading. One advantage of moving on a premium for him, though, is I am certain to have the cash for a Miller or a Brayshaw or at worst a fallen premium soon.
I would usually go straight from Whitfield to Bowey, but I am so eager to get Heeney in, and Whitfield seems like the man to go. This means swinging Paddy McCartin to the backline and losing that flexibility, but it’s Heeney, and no one ever regrets bringing Heeney in, right?
Gawn is also on the chopping block at the moment, but there is no good Ruckmen that are next in line, as I already have Grundy. I will hold fire on English for a while, but another idea is to turn Gawn into a Jackson, Witts, or even Hayes before the price goes up and then using that money to turn Sinn into my boy Touk.
I believe I have all necessary players outside of Heeney, but if someone has slipped past me please let me know.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated, I’m mostly relying on the people of SCT to carry me to a good total. Thanks for reading!

    1. In summary, the most likely scenario I go from either

    2. Great team!

Perhaps consider Whit to Short (you get a keeper assuming you’re convinced Whit isn’t one), Chapman to Bowey (cash gen and better scoring potential), Dixon to Hayes (cash gen)

      2

    3. People are using Bowey as a correction for an expensive rookie in the 250k range that hasn’t worked out.

They are doing so because after Salem got injured Bowey got a bigger role and scored 150 last week. Should make some good cash until Salem gets back.

On your team that’s Chapman and it’s a simple rookie correction.

      Chapman > Bowey.

Since Bowey is 10k Cheaper then Chapman you would now have enough money to go up from Whitfield to a more sure fire Premo could probably even get up to Hall who looks like a 125 average player.

Similar injury history to Heeney but better role.

    T/U: Hayden Young (418k) + Hinge

    1. I mean I’d personally hold onto Ward rather than keep McGoven or Chapmen. Wards just going through the usual poor DE phase that rookies go through when they come straight into it, but the man has so much potential to pump out better scores. And I mean McGoven has had a good and a bad game, same with Chapman, but Chapman got that hand of god action that gave him so many points lol.

Would suggest Chapman going of the two, but if you have no other more pressing issues than McGoven then chuck him in there too, but the man does have money to make. Definitely love bringing in Cripps and Hinge, Bowey I mean has only played what like 10 games, shown the massive ceiling but if you have the money why not go to a premo on whatever line you can chuck one in for the money you have spare?

  92. Hey guys,

I’m looking at tidying up my team a bit and currently ranked at 260. I have a dilemma in my ruck. I currently have Grundy R1, Hayes as R2 and Dixon as R3. I was thinking that I need to bring in a sustainable ruck. I have $211k in the bank. I was thinking of trading Baldwin, swinging Dixon forward then bringing in Witts as R2.

    T/U – Do this trade
T/D – Persist with this structure and bring Xerri in for Baldwin( If Hayes keeps playing without Rider this may be a better option as rucks have sucked this year so far)

    5

    4
    1. I’d look at Lloyd Meek (Freo 260k)

Is averaging 85 the first 2 rounds and plays forward when Darcy is picked. Plus gets extra ruck duties whenever Darcy is out.

Currently in 0.8% of teams so he’s a nice POD

You could always try and find extra room for Xerri some other way if you think he’s worth it.

      0

      0
  93. Just a bit of a comment. PODs are worth nothing if they don’t outscore whoever they are replacing. All else being equal, Do I want a player with 60% ownership who will average 110 for the year, or do I want a POD with 1.5% ownership who will average 95 for the year?

    7

  94. Thoughts on getting in Luke Mcdonald? is very cheap for what he is producing and should be getting DPP come round 6 where he can be a keeper in defence.

    TU: go for it

through my other trades from this round I have 200k spare money so not really wasting a trade.

  97. Def: Ridley, short, Whitfield, Sicily, hinge, mcartin ( o’driscoll, Dean)

Mids: McRae, Steele, Oliver, Neale, Rowell, j berry, jhf, daicos (ward, MacDonald, uwland)

    Ruck: Grundy, Gawn (j Hayes)

Fwd: Dunkley, butters, coninglio, Brodie, rachele, n Martin ( S de koning, h Dixon)

    $10k spare.

    I didn’t use a a trade last week.

Thinking of using 3 this week.

    Out: Whitfield, berry and Gawn
    In: hewett, Cripps, heeney

This would leave around 100k in the bank.
It would mean playing j Hayes in ruck.

    T/u = do it
    T/d = don’t do it.

      1. Gday Jarrad

As tempting as those trades look most coaches here would agree that we don’t downgrade premos and that trades are “gold”. I understand that Gawn and Whitfield have been disappointing to start but the likelihood of them coming good is quite high I guess. Berry is definitely a possibility to trade as he’s kind of in a utility role which isn’t great, but he’s going to make money and has a large ceiling.

However on the other side of things, the 3 you’re looking to bring in are on fire, and personally I think Hewitt is a must have for his price, and look the others are too but you’d be shocked if they keep up this type of scoring.

Looking at your team, I don’t think that there are any major problems for you to fix, so if you want to use the 3 trades to get some $ and get players while they’re hot and cheap then go for it! I’d also suggest looking at getting the cash cows of Xerri and Stephens in before they add 50-60k to their price.

Saying all that best of luck with whatever decision you make!

          1. Thanks heaps iso moe!

Gawn is going to lose money so thinking I might be able to get him back in later while maximising those who will make money. I have a feeling Jackson and Gawn will share time and Gawn will be rested saved up for the big games and ensure he is fit comes finals. A great luxury for Melbourne.
            Whitfield doesn’t seem quite right.
I think berry will have his high score games but inconsistent.
I feel the three ins are great value and will make money not only will they make money they replace those who will loose money and they may also be top 6-8 by the end of the year.
Trades are gold but so is having the best possible team from the get go.

  101. Beware everone thinking of trading the great man Gawn – He knows and he will fire up not just because of SC but he is a leader and his team needs him. I love watching the Dees play. Who would have thunk it in the 80’s and 90’s

  102. Current team;

Hall, Short, Docherty, Hewett, Chapman, McCartin (Hinge, SDK)

    Gawn, Grundy (Dixon)

Dunkley, Butters, Cogs, Brodie, Rachelle, Hayes (Martin, Skinner)

Like many coaches I’m thinking of jumping on the Cripps/Heeney train.

  103. currently thinking I should use three trades here as corrective trades.

looking at something along these lines

    In – Cripps, Hewett, Hinge
    Out – Whitfield, Chapman, Berry

I was quite bullish on Cripps to start but traded him for Rowell last second to fund Gibcus to Chapman.

I see cripps averaging 115-120, Hewett maybe 90-95 when everyone in their midfield gets back and hinge hopefully pushing around 75. These three will also have good cash gen between them and can be luxury trades around the end of the season

While Whitfield is great value, he just doesn’t seem involved in the game. I see him averaging 105-110, Chapman around 75-80 max and Berry around the same.

Overall, I see the ins averaging more and getting better cash gen than the outs

    T/U – Do it
    T/D – Don’t do it

    9

    0
    1. Whitfield will struggle to average 105-110. He will be lucky to finish out the year with his injury history. I regret starting him, I should have looked more into his history at the start of the season.

    1. I have the same dilemma.

  110. Feel like Cripps and Heeney are just must haves. Heeney full pre season and i believe will be top 3 forwards by seasons end. And Cripps is finally 100% and hasn’t got a broken back and I can comfortably say he will ave 110 and will be a top 8 mid.

Trade Whitfield + Gawn to Cripps + Heeney. Moving Hayes to R2

T/U – Go for it, Gawn and Whit will be bleeding money while Cripps and Heeney are massively underpriced.

Ward > 102k mid (Suggestions are appreciated! Will Black hold his spot after the weekend’s performance?)

Desperately need to chop Chapman but I only have pennies in the bank so this is the only way I can fit Hewett in. Alternatively, can go McDonald for a better rookie mid but think the upside of Hewett is far greater.

    Yay or nay?

    1

    1
    1. Don’t force your cash Gen.

Going from Chapman to Hewett is trying to fit in an extra Premo.

You probably need 2 midpricers to make this happen.

If you don’t have those it’s probably better to treat Chapman as a rookie and correct to a player of equal value or cheaper.

Bowey is the sideswap most on here are doing, or you could downgrade to Hinge if you don’t have him and bank 90k

Chapman is a rookie. so if you don’t like him it’s better to sideswap or even downgrade.

      1

      1. Cheers for the reply and advice, Guy.

Bowey does seem like the obvious and wiser choice. I think I’m just afraid of missing the Hewett boat which isn’t the worst thing in the world given the number of cooks in the Blues mids.

Will mull over the decision over the next coupled days and will hopefully make the right one!

Td. Dusty and Ward to Xerri and Brayshaw
Anyone else under $590k in mids better value?

    3

    2
    1. I would go for Cripps over Brayshaw because they both have similar ceilings and scoring potential but one of them is 140k cheaper. If you don’t have neale then get him.
The only other player I would consider in that sort of range would be Ben Keays as a POD. In the last 4 games, he has played he scored 125, 173, 128 and 149 for a 4 round average of 144. On a team without too many midfielders he should get tons of CBA’s and could definitely push for a 125+ average. Depends if you want to go safer with Cripps and go with a POD in Keays because he can average more than cripps while being owned by less than 5% of coaches.

  117. What’s people’s views on the rucks?
Grawndy days close to numbered. They really get knocked around these days.
Gawns last 3 including Granny in the 80/90s snd Grundy not killing it like we thought he may have.
Highest Av is 112.5- both Grundy & Jackson.
Did love the way Nankervis monstered Flynn, and reckon might see Preuss in this week. Still remember his tackle on Grundy in pre season.
Gawns average last 3 years seems to be on the slide…
    2020-140
    2021- 120
    2022-90
    # only the 2 games so far in 2022, so will improve from here, but rucks are a interesting one.
Do we go for Witts who’s very vulnerable to needing a spell or injury?
Do we go for English- who’s around the ground stuff gets him the points?

    Who’s people’s top 3?

      1

      0
    2. Gawn and Grundy are looking vulnerable to the younger rucks who are getting around the ground better, and racking up possessions and goals (e.g. English, Jackson, Draper).

At the two game mark, it’s hard to tell if Gawn and Grundy are just warming into the season, if the game has changed materially enough to negatively impact their games, and/or if that change will last beyond the first few weeks.

They both tailed off behind Darcy and Nic Nat in the back half of last year, and right now it seems like they’ll continue on that trajectory. Feels very wrong to be thinking about trading them, but: –

The 6-6-6 rule has certainly opened things up.

Zoning isn’t choking play at the ends of the ground quite as bad, but we’ve still seen the defenders up on the forward 50 for extended chunks of play.

In addition to the 6-6-6 CB rule, it seems like the inside 50 choking is alleviated in general play by not as many throw-ins due deliberate out-of-bounds calls, and umps seem much more inclined to pay free kicks for holding the ball, in the back, and high tackles, than balling it up at stoppages.

Does anyone track general play ball-up numbers? Are they materially different to normal ATM? What about free kicks, are they higher than normal too?

The games so far this year are looking much more attractive imo, so you would think the AFL will keep pushing these mandates to umpires.

      Thoughts?

Comment for Whitfield to someone cheaper and then Berry – Brayshaw (and if cheaper – who?)

    1. Rowell.

Has a similar ceiling to Hewett and is a success as a Cash Cow vs Hewett who has to be a keeper (and/or) luxury trade

  121. Wanted to clean up a couple of my slightly riskier picks. Thoughts on the below?

    Bont into Trac
    Berry into Brayshaw
    T.Thomas into Xerri

    TU – go for it
TD – don’t flip bont, find a better trade

  122. Never thought I’d be looking at three trades other than a bye round, but…..

    Out Whit Hough Soligo
    In Bowey Xerri Cripps

Leaves a nice little $84.3k itb and every meaningful rookie, Long as c loop, and only Dixon as possible cold body.

    T/u Yes
    T/d No
Whit might bite me, but can’t do the other leg without him going or someone of higher value.

  123. My team:

DEF: Crisp, Whitfield, Sicily, Hewett, Hinge, P. McCartin (Gibcus, De Koning)

MID: Macrae, Steele, Neale, Cripps, Rowell, Horne-Francis, Daicos, D. Stephens (Ward, MacDonald, Hough)

    RUCK: Gawn, Grundy (Dixon)

FWD: Dunkley, Heeney, Butters, Coniglio, Brodie, N. Martin (Rachele, Hayes)

Any obvious changes to make? Do I move on Whitfield? Gut says to keep him

  124. I’m more keen to hold Whitfield then trade him which means I’ll be passing on Cripps, Heeney & Hewitt.
The only ‘rookie’ I don’t have that looks to be going well is Xerri but with only $25k I don’t really have a way to bring him in as I didn’t start the mid prices in McGovern, Berry, etc.
The only trades I am considering this week are
    Owens > Mead (if named)
    Baldwin > Maginness

    TU – Wasting trades
TD – Go ahead with either or both

    1. I mean I’d still say keep both, Ward should come good as he knows how to find the ball, just his DE and TOG isn’t amazing but you’d likely see that improving. Where as Berry I’d say is under performing for what I’d imagine most of us were expecting (I thought maybe 80-85pts rather than 71.5pts), but he’s still going to be making money with a 14 BE, plus we know he’s got a massive ceiling, he just needs the opportunity, but I guess it’s quite hard when you’re being used to tag.

But then it kind of comes down to what your team needs/what you can afford. If getting rid of berry means you can get the likes of Cripps/Heeney/Hewitt than I think it’s a no brainer before their price rise. Other than that there is an argument to get some must have rookies/cash cows if you don’t already have them, but is it worth burning a trade for maybe 60-150K for them? I think so (on the later end of 150K) but at the end of the day it’s really up to you!

  125. Thinking of going

    Gawn to Jackson
    Whitfield to Hewett
    Mead to Cripps.

Gives me Grundy & Jackson in the ruck. Rich, Short, Crisp, Sicily, McCartin and Hewett in defense. Oliver, Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Berry, JHF, Daicos and Stephens in the middle.

    leaves 99K.

Planning for McGovern to Martin next week and then let the growth happen.

    Any thoughts?

  126. TU
    Whitfield -> Bowey
    Berry -> Cripps

    TD
    Whitfield -> Skinner
    Berry -> Cripps
    McGovern -> Heeney

Worried about Skinner JC and would make my backline pretty weak (Crisp, Short, Hewett, then three of Gibcus/Hinge/McCartin/De Koning/Skinner)

  128. For those looking at trading Gawn/Darcy, is Lloyd Meek an option?
BE -17, scores of 88 and 83 so far, priced much cheaper than alternative options at 264k

  129. Over 300 comments in this one, so I’ve put a fresh Trade Talk thread which should now be at the top of the site.

If your post hasn’t gotten much traction due to the volume of comments, feel free to re-post on the new thread.

  130. Given that Tarryn Thomas isn’t going to lose any $$ this week (but is also out for a very long period of time), is it better to trade him first or Rayner?

    TU: Trade Thomas first
    TD: Trade Rayner first

  133. Worth trading out-
    Whitfield to Hewett.
    Non playing rookie to Brodie.

    Thinking cash generation with Brodie.
