Tuesday Poll : Carnage Coverage

Written by JimmyDee on July 9 2024

I was going to look at a couple of different options analysing some results from last week’s poll, but given the injury/suspension carnage delivered to us at the completion of round seventeen I thought a carnage coverage theme might be more appropriate.

We’ve been relatively lucky to this point that we have not en masse copped multiple SuperCoach relevant outs in one hit (apologies to those that may have) so I’ve set it up to get you talking about how to go about fixing this week, and then the next few weeks given the quality of the outs.

Rankine out for four and owned by 15% of coaches; Gawn out for two to three and owned by 58%; Heeney, maybe a week, owned by 64%; Touk possible four, owned by 21%; Fisher unknown and owned by 22% and The Gov in doubt for a period, owned by 8%. Most of these represent thousands of SuperCoaches and some of us won’t be able to fix them all in one go, so what is the strategy?

The first of these questions will obviously be reliant on the number of trades you have left, and if you have a boost left to use to your advantage. Given that as at last week’s poll  48% of us had not reached full premo, it will make it hard to do it this week. Also given that 89% of us not at full premo need at least two more to achieve that status, makes it twice as difficult.

As for trades, 41 % of us had five or fewer trades left at the end of round seventeen, so that presents more challenges to filling our team, let alone whether we replace the missing stars of our teams or not, so we kick off with the amount of trades and boosts we now have left as a refresher.

How many trades do you have left at this stage ?

For the long term outs, how many do you have and will you try to replace them all or just some, and can you even afford to replace them. I leave Heeney off this list as we know it’s a maximum of one week and most will carry him on the bench for that time. I’ll keep Fisher and Gov in there as we don’t know their prognosis at this point.

How many of Rankine, Gawn, McGovern, Miller or Fisher do have ?

The next section may get a little tricky because it will depend on how many of these players you have, but in the interest of giving the community some feed back, try and be as close to the situation as you can if you owned them.
This would be a great starting point for comments to explain your decisions.

  1. I have McGovern, Gawn, Heeney and Fisher.

I suspect Heeney will be downgraded to a fine and therefore right to play.

I think Fisher will play but just an opinion on what was coming out of the club last week.
Gawn a max (imum) (pun intended) of 2 weeks. He seems confident.

McGovern is one tough bugger so it wouldn’t surprise if he put his name of for selection this week. I am think one week though.

I have Jackson to cover Gawn. My other coverage is Schoenmachers, Humphries, Dowling, Mannagh, Freijah, McKercher and still have Sexton.

So I will probably not trade this week and hold onto my 4 trades.

    1. Great planning Shaggi just shows the importance of depth on the bench
Luckily I only have Heeney and have cover if he doesn’t get off

  2. Speaking of carnage, email to wce members,

The West Coast Eagles and senior coach Adam Simpson have mutually agreed that his 11-year tenure at the club will come to an end.

Simpson, one of only six senior coaches in the 37-year history of the club and one of only three to lead the club to premiership glory, achieved the ultimate success in 2018 to join Michael Malthouse (1992, 1994) and John Worsfold (2006) in bringing the cup to WA.

  3. Only have Gawn (but traded Fisher last week). 4 trades left but given I’m ranked around 15,000, I’ll be trading Gawn and hoping it pushes me up the rankings (I have Jackson so I’ll get the best fwd/ruck that I can afford). If I was higher up the ranks I’d consider holding more.

  4. Have Heeney, Gawn, McGovern and Rankine.

Will wait and see on Friday nigh as Humphries, Richards and Kreuger will be loophole emergencies. Good scores may save me a trade and buy a week.

Rankine is gone. 5 trades before the start of the week. Aiming for top 1,000 so cant let up now.

  5. I have Miller, McGovern, Gawn & Heeney. Miller is becoming Merrett as that was on the cards anyway. I’ve got playing backup on each line (Short, Humphries, Kreuger, Dowling) and Jackson to swing into rucks, so unless more go down in the meantime I’m thinking I’ve got enough backup to hold them all. Fingers crossed.

  6. down to one trade.
Have Gawn – can cover with ddp swing for Jackson and use bench cover if mcneil plays
Have Heeney – have bench cover (breville)

    Have Rankine and Miller.
will lean towards trading Rankine else I will have a donut in the FWD line till Gawn comes back.

    carnage.

  7. I thought, with enough practice, we are supposed to get better at things?
Not me with Supercoach it seems. Have played since it began and this is my worst season – after saying this last season!
3 Trades left, still 1 premo short in FWD line. Now Rankine and Heeney issues. Nyuon and Ramsden on bench. Truly cooked!
And I’ll happily do it all again in 2025

    1. I hear you – also my worst season and been playing for 10+ years. Also with 3 trades left – finally got to full premo last week BUT did have to play a rookie on field to cover Fisher. Now with Gawn, Rankine & Heeney issues (plus Fisher if he’s not back). Will be trading Rankine, relying on bench cover for Heeney, covering Gawn with Jackson, fielding another rookie to fill Jackson’s forward spot, plus another one if no Fisher. I ran out of trades last year, but not until finals at least. Need to find a way to hold more during the season, whilst still trying to get to full premo, as the longer we play with onfield rookies, the more games we lose against teams that have managed to reach full premo. It’s frustrating as hell, but I also love it.

  8. Gawn (hold)
    Fisher (hold)
    Heeney (hold)
    Rankine > Caldwell
    Miller > Rozee or Cripps
