I couldn’t quite figure out how to condense it into a poll but Chillo asked this week about general trade/holding strategy amidst carnage a week out from the byes. So let us know how you’re specifically approaching the crisis. Are only holds on a 4 week injury permissible? Are byes and BEs a factor? How is it impacting your upgrading schedule? Could kicking the can down to next week be an option?
Thanks to GKMC, Barb, River, Brian and a distraught Chillo for the suggestion’s over in this week’s Polling Station.
depending on your bye structure, now could be the best possible time to hold multiple 3-4 week injured players
JHF and Macrae having early byes makes me more likely to hold them. Unfortunately I also have Callaghan to deal with. He has the last bye so he could potentially miss five out of the next six games, so he’s probably gone
I have all 3, not even hesitate to trade out Callaghan
Yeah, like many others, I have the trifecta of carnage, and a bench of dead / dodgy rookies. JFH and Callahan gone this week and boosting to get Simpson in. Will hold Macrae likely only until round 13 when I will trade for the Bont or similar.
Voting was complicated because of if you play for league or ranking. Ranking means you trade and Leagues means you look at coming matchups b4 trading. Hope that makes sense
Makes perfect sense WG. I’ll highlight in tomorrow’s most traded column how for example, Jack Macrae did not appear in the “all coaches” list before today’s update, but was second on the list of the top 1% of coaches traded out. Supports your comment that the top end of the ladder will not sit on points, even for a week. Now that we are looking at at least round 14 for Jack, that decision is much easier unless you have Finn and Hornet as well, then good luck.
I also have the trifecta of carnage. Logic suggests Macrae is the keeper of the 3 but after a barnstorming start to the year with ‘prove myself at my new club’ Adrenalin running through the blood – 4 of his last 6 scores have been in the 70s .My gut feel is he would always fade and be a strategic trade out anyway. Hence I will be using my second last boost to trade out all 3 and make sure I include Bolton, who is primed to make cash short term and may well end up as a stepping stone to a better than Macrae all in the time it takes for Macrae to get back on the park..
On field rookies will be hard to predict as with JHF, Macrae & Callaghan out, if coaches are low on or saving their trades, what was a 4 rookie side could this week now be a 6-7 onfield rookie side. And with not much on the table for rookie trade in options, its hard to trade up whilst dealing with 4 week injuries to keepers.
I have all 3.
My initial thoughts (Tuesday evening) is to trade Callaghan and hold Macrae.
JHF is the one I’m not sure about.
Callaghan isn’t a best 8 midfielder. Plus has a late bye meaning he could miss 3-4 weeks plus a bye. Easy trade to another keeper, thinking Clark, Martin or Green (all about same price)
Macrae injury doesn’t seem he will be out too long. Has a r13 bye meaning he will probably only miss 2 matches plus and an easy bye round to cover. Forwards are thin on the ground and he should still be a top 6.
JHF could be back for r13, more likely r14. But has an early bye so will only miss 1 or probably 2 matches. Similar to Macrae, he should be a top 6 forward so to trade him out could mean you trade him back in later. Which might be ok with his big price drop coming.
I’m thinking I can trade out Cleary and Hewitt for Simpson and Bolton. Bolton can cover JHF for next 2 weeks. He has a very low BE so could be $500k quickly and for extra $70k go to Butters after his bye (Bolton on his bye).
R11
Cleary, Hewitt and Callaghan OUT
Simpson, Bolton and Martin IN
I really like Clark, but Martin can swing with Stone and be really handy to cover all lines during byes. Plus will have Rozee moving to defence next week and Martin can cover Macrae in forward line
R12
Trainor OUT
Coleman IN
Coleman has r16 bye and can loop with Zac Reid at D6/7. Should make $100k and can trade out with Reid in Round 16 for hopefully last premo
R13
MHall and Bolton OUT
Rookie and Butters IN
Hall and Bolton on their bye, time to get Butters at his cheapest.
Hopefully r15 Flynn to premo and r16 Coleman and Reid to Bont to finish team
That gives me 22.
Need about another $600k cash generation though to get a 23 premium.
Meaning my current bench of Sims, El-H, Day-W, Boxshall, Stone, Simpson, O’Connell, Hustwaite need to get cracking.
AFL website lists:
Callaghan 4-6 weeks
JHF 4 weeks
Macrae 2-3 weeks
Callaghan has to go then and Macrae is 2 plus a bye so I’m holding.
I was all set to trade JHF but I’m tempted to hold now considering the upcoming byes. Decisions, decisions…
