Tuesday Poll: Trade Directions

In the absence of items (with apologies to Waldorf, but BBL is a bit far away so keep cracking on), I thought I’d see if there is a defined way from coaches regarding their upcoming trades.

Cash gen is being coached out of our strategies (think, Gross, Trainor, Hall etc), so is it time to forget that direction and move the team forward in differing ways. We only have a couple of viable rookies for inclusion at this stage and there’s no guarantee they won’t be the subject of the sub vest any time soon. Matt Carroll looks OK and with a BE of -65 could make us a quick $55k with another 60. James Tunstill is tough and been in the system for a while, and with an 88 in the cycle could be good but does he keep getting a guernsey. Matt Flynn is the obvious cash cow this week and could make us $75k in one hit if he tons up again.

So who is looking at the big three for the immediate inclusion for a points boost and weekly “VC” and/or “C” options. Nick Daicos is, dare we say it, the value option at $608k, but there is no doubting the scoring ability of the Bont and Zac Butters at roughly $680k and $660k respectively. There are some obvious benefits to getting any of them in, but are we selling the farm to do so.

Value options and fallen premos, some with new DPP, could pave the way for immediate points boosts and not break the bank. Then the question is, how long before we can get any of the above three and will those presumably fewer points per week from the value players who all have proven scoring ability, add up to more by the time we can afford any of the big three. Christian Petracca, now as a forward presents options and cannot be far away from a big one. Tom Stewart surely gets his mojo back soon, while Big X has dropped enough to be considered value at this point. Add to them a bunch of players in the $500k – $575 range like Jordan Dawson, Sam Walsh, Connor Rozee, Tom Green and Tim Taranto to name a few, and then more choices could arguably be added  to the mix.

I’ve had  a crack at making this theme into a poll, so I hope it is not too confusing and you can give us an indication of what direction you might be taking in the very near future. Once again, thanks for reading and participating in the site’s analysis segments.

    • The Eagles coach definitely doesn’t play SC. With what he’s done with Flynn and the other WCE rookies, Mini will have a name like Chris Scott, Bevo or FURL in no time. And yes, I held Flynn for as long as I could before I traded him out in Round 5 – now trading him back in!

    • Yeah, I thought he was in because Williams was injured, but can’t see him in the injury list. If he’s fine I might rethink getting Flynn in, it’s not enough for him to play one game to make it worth it. We need 3-4 games out of him.

  1. Getting Flynn is a tough one, for me he ties up the Flex position which I feel is going to better used elsewhere to shuffle resources. I could be wrong though.

    • Flynn projected score is 76 with a $65.9K price rise. Round 8 projected score is 85 with a $47.9K rise. He has some tough opponents in the next few rounds (Meek, Gawn and then Nank) but that cash gen is hard to ignore.

      • I think the way ned long has been playing he has more chance of going 100+ in the next 3 matches than what flynn does with that hard run. I’m not going to win SuperCoach so why not take a risk.

  2. WAFL match report April 19 Perth v WAFL Eagles

“Bailey Williams was a standout for the Eagles with his ruck work and follow up, winning the hit outs for the game and finishing with 21 touches, three marks and a goal.”
