Carlton are a vastly improved side since Barker took over and they have learnt how to tackle and harass. Mick Malthouse wants to label the lift in form a “honeymoon period” for the new coach, but it seems the Blues actually seem to care about winning now. They’ve challenged some good sides recently and just lack the polish required to win games.
So can they challenge the Hawks?
Considering Carlton have not beaten the Hawks since Jesaulenko played and the Hawks are looking more like the team that defeated Sydney in late September last year, the answer is….Yes! (All right, no, just trying to be nice to Motts!)
The Hawks may not quite push for an annihilation like they did against Fremantle and Sydney, but they score so effectively that they will punish any errors made by the young Blues side.
Milestones: Congratulations to Mark Murphy who plays his 200th game. Since Malthouse’s departure he has been a new man!
Thommo’s tip: Hawthorn by 72 points.
