One team has hit rock bottom, the other team has just returned from there. This game was meant to be a stepping stone on Essendon’s path to the finals but after the 110 point hiding handed out by St Kilda last week, the Bombers are no longer talking finals. They need a win badly to release the pressure that is building at the club.
Melbourne is an enigma, playing beautiful football one week and producing rubbish the next. Obviously inconsistency is expected from a young side, but Paul Roos will accept nothing but victory today.
Essendon will miss Jobe Watson’s leadership now that injury has ended his season.
Thommo’s tip: Melbourne by 12 points.
