GWS: Shaw 161, Treloar 113, Ward 102

Key Ins/Outs:
Sydney

Out: Dean Towers (Omitted)
GWS
In: Joel Patfull
Out: Caleb Marchbank (Ankle)

Game notes: The Battle of the Bridge has been predominantly dominated by Sydney over it’s relatively short history, with the exception of that shock R1 win by the Giants in 2014. Shane Mumford will be looking forward to more monster tackles against his old mob after nearly knocking Mitch Duncan into next week. Some rumours have indicated that small tremors were felt off the coast of NSW after such a collision. Parker, Mitchell, Kennedy, Jack and Hannebery have formed one of the most devastating midfields in the competition, but will face a tough match up against the likes of Shiel, Ward, Griffen and the in-form Tom Scully. Heath Shaw ripped up this match in the pre-season with 147 points, as did Toby Greene with 133.
This one is a little tough to tip, as I sense GWS will have a real crack despite being the underdogs.

MJ’s Tip: Sydney by 16.

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  2. Didn’t have enough cash for Gray or Priddis for Rocky. Have Parker, Libba and all the rookies. Looking for a premo replacement with $578k.

  5. Quite glad I don’t have Hewett now but I’m stuck with Mills and Papleys poor scores as well, at least I know I’m not the Lone Ranger here!

    1. I haven’t got Papley (as had to get Kennedy & Libba instead) but made the silly decision to put Milera on the field who gave me 39, instead of taking Tippa’s 71 when I had a loophole option. Got too greedy…

  9. Did anyone end up trading out shaw?

At least Mills and papa finally doing something!

  10. Lads I have the VC on Parker. Do i loophole and take whatever parker ends up with (looking like 120+)? Or do i keep the ‘C’ on Gaz? Any help is appreciated

    1. General rule is take the points and run. Worst case is Gaz goes large and costs you 40 points, not really worth the risk of him getting tagged or injured.

Game chat – Sydney v GWS

Written by Thommo on March 4 2016

Drummoyne Oval in Sydney at 7:10pm

WHAT’S OF INTEREST TODAY?

I think we have a good idea of how Sydney will line up this season, but today we will see how the GWS midfield lines up without Treloar. Who’s getting midfield minutes today?

SUPERCOACH WATCH

SYD: Callum Mills is at the top of my watch list for the Swans today; will he continue floating across the half-back line? It will be interesting to watch Sinclair and Tippett again to see how they rotate through the ruck.

GWS: As mentioned above, we’ll get to see whether Greene, Steele, Griffen or someone else gets more midfield minutes while the highly-rated Kennedy plays his second preseason game. For those of you fancying a certain mid-price defender, Williams is on display again today.

Who are you watching today?

  1. Kennedy and Pickett now late outs. Was hoping to see a bit more of both, esp Kennedy.
Interested to see how Mummy/Lobb work together.
Any news on Haynes and his return?

  2. As this stage, there may not be a game… only 1 light tower is working. Umpires have walked off the ground. Commentators sweating. 😀

  3. So far Greene and Steele seem to be rotating through the midfield and forward line with Steele getting the most midfield time of the two of them. Ward and Shiel are in there almost full time. Scully, Kelly and Whitfield are running the wings. I think Griffin mainly rotating between the midfield and half back (mostly half-back).

  5. Shane Mumford won’t take part in the second half due to precaution. Resting up his left ankle. Second half now underway. (@GWSGIANTS)………..Here we go again. Anyone who starts with Mummy better have a trade planned for him at some stage

  6. Can’t help but to be very impressed with Greene. Coming off the wing a lot and also a lot of time on the ball. With Treloar gone I think hell be the one to get more midfield time rather than Devon Smith. Think he might find his way in NY forward line tonight

  7. I know it’s only a scratch match but the pressure GWS are putting on the opposition is fantastic. Forcing a lot of errors and capitalising on their turnovers. If you fancy Shiel, Ward, Shaw or Greene for your starting line-ups then there’s not much to deter you on tonight’s performance.
If you’re still considering Mumford, then keep a trade planned for him. You’ll need it!

  8. Brad’s notables:
    – Heath Shaw may well be worth the money. On fire tonight.
    – Toby Greene got a bit of the ball, but still makes a few too many errors.
    – Sheil and Josh Kelly were very impressive. Considering Gerard Healy is saying he could be all Australian, could be in for a breakout.
    – Griffin is really going and could well be underpriced after only averaging 20 possies last year, 1st time that low since 2008.
    – Williams did enough to suggest he might go alright.
    – Stevie J got amongst the goals and was his usual higlights/lowlights reel in action.
    – Mummy did was mummy does, played a bit, hit a few and then rested eating pies. May have a new injury concern.
    – Buddy Franklin has improved throughout the game. He has to play forward and I think swans need to stops pretending that he can play midfield. He’s not Matty Richardson or even a Roughy.
    – Tippett played mostly ruck which was interesting, but didn’t get a lot of it and Sinclair played mostly forward and was quite productive.
    – Parker got plenty of the ball.
    – Jordan Dawson looks a likely type and may take over the shaw role. Kicked a great goal from outside 50m.
    – Heeney is going to be a real gun. 2 goals.

  11. A couple of stats from Fantasy Freako (Champion Data):

    * No signs of Rampe being released from a defensive role. Won 8 of 13 disposals in the defensive 50. Can’t be considered in SuperCoach.

*Papley was a surprise packet playing in the Ben McGlynn role – 20 pressure acts and a team-high 10 tackle attempts + 2 goals.

*20 disposals, 11 contested possessions and 8 tackles for Greene. He’s good to go.

*Centre bounce attendances last night – Parker 20, JPK 18, Steele 18, Ward 18, KJack 18, Mitchell 8 and Greene 7.

*Observations – Shaw is a priority in defence and Mumford must be avoided.
