Game Chat – Sydney vs GWS

Written by Huttabito on April 7 2018

WHERE AND WHEN:ย SCG, Saturday, April 7, 7.25pm AEST

SUMMARY
After posting significant wins in the opening round of the season, both sides found things more difficult last week, and only the Giants remain undefeated. The Swans dominated every aspect of their clash with Port Adelaide early but failed to translate that into scoreboard pressure, and it cost them dearly when the visitors ran over the top of them after half-time. If they do the same against GWS, the result will likely be the same. The Giants struggled to shake off Collingwood until Stephen Coniglio and Lachie Whitfield played pivotal roles in the last term at the MCG, and they’ll need to clean up their forward 50 entries in order to trouble Sydney’s experienced backline. The battle between Lance Franklin and Phil Davis will again be crucial to the result, but given the superstar was their only multiple goal scorer against the Power, the Swans will need more contributions from players such as Tom Papley, Will Hayward and Gary Rohan.

LAST FIVE MEETINGS
R17, 2017, Sydney 14.12 (96) d Giants 12.11 (83) at Spotless Stadium
R5, 2017, Giants 15.15 (105) d Sydney 9.9 (63) at the SCG
1QF, 2016, Giants 12.19 (91) d Sydney 7.13 (55) at ANZ Stadium
R12, 2016, Giants 15.15 (105) d Sydney 9.9 (63) at Spotless Stadium

  2. Bugger – just realized that I have Fyfe’s 164 as a VC score but the only way I can take it (D Martin is Capt) is to put Giles-Langdon on the field, who is my only non-playing player, which will mean taking Garlett’s 64 emergency score, and taking off either Heeney, Billings, McLean or D Smith – all averaging 100+. Do I do that or hope that Dusty can get close?
    TU: Keep Dusty as Captain
TD: Take Fyfe’s 164 by putting Giles-Langdon on the field, taking Garlett’s emerg and taking off one of the above – probably D Smith

    1. Crisis averted – realized I have L Ryan from WCE in the FWD so can move him to the bench, Giles-Langdon onto field as Captain, means taking Garlett’s score as emergency instead of L Ryan – but he won’t go big 2 weeks in a row….will he??

  3. Dear Channel 7,

Can we please have this game instead of Adelaide mauling St. Kilda?

    Pretty please?

  9. Selected Taranto in my team this week. Should have gone Hogan but then again Sydney are a high pressure team and Taranto has beeem playing some good footy.

    1. I wonder how much impact selecting Hopper did to Taranto.

Had a 4am start and game wasn’t telecast so can’t comment.

      1. your comments are very insightful and always appreciate your feed back.
Hopper played more midfield so i think you are right.
I hung on to Naughton and Dunkly this week and resisting temptation to go to Bonner and Fisher hasnโ€™t hurt so far but looking for a great game from Dunkly and Naughton today

      2. In the end, for that reason I decided to hold off on trading Rayner to Taranto. Too much of a risk. Still have him in RDT though, so wonder if this was a game plan for Swans or whether his CBAs will stay down from now?

        1. Oh and holding off that trade was very much thanks to Father’s cows piece… having become more wary of correctional trades in last couple of years anyway, that article confirmed it for me. Thank you Father!
