Rookie Review Round 16

Written by Big Sexy on July 20 2010

My Top Four Rookies (<$200k) of the week:

1)    A Smith (Def 100k) had another great a stellar SC game with a 74 to rack up sensational average of 83.  He is sure to have a huge jump in price if he gets another run, and with West Coast have a solid win and looking to next season, he’ll hopefully get a few runs.

2)    J Blair (Mid 173k) had his quietest week with a 50.  However, having seen this boy run around the paddock, It is clear he has plenty of talent and I can’t see too many people knocking on the door especially with Mcaffer getting a run.  He still has an average of 77, and this is your last chance to grab him before he jumps over 200k.

3)    A Strijk (Def 130k) is Mr Consistent after three 50’s and now stepped up to 64.  He must be a quiet achiever as he seems to slip under the radar and hardly gets noticed.  However, Whoosha has given him four straight runs and must be showing some faith, so whilst he mightn’t be getting the same scores as Smith, he may get a few more runs.

4)    R Tarrant (Fwd 100k) Unfortunately not going as well as we would have liked.  T2 had a second average run with 33.  The only saving grace for T2 is that it looks like he has taken Ziebel’s spot in the side, and like most of us I’m sure who’s waiting in the wings… because lets face it, it’s the Kanga’s, who cares.  Anyway, I think he’ll get a few runs if they can afford it.  I hope he improves, as there isn’t much other

Note:  There is only a top 4 this week, as I didn’t feel there were 5 worth mentioning.  After a few good Rookies coming through, they are getting lean again.

  1. I’ve got strijk, pretty happy so far he’s good cover.

On another note; i want to upgrade one of my underperforming defenders to a gun. Who of these three should i trade out: Waters, Maguire, Carazzo?

    Any thoughts appreiciated?

      1. thanks, for the replies guys. I still have faith that Carazzo will come good, but waters has had some shocking scores these past weeks, surely he’s a must to trade out not a rested maguire?

        1. Carrazzos killing me. Since I brought him in a month or so ago every score has been sub 100. 🙁 Mainly a tagger now.

  3. Ice man, I can only say I was wrapt with Dal’s late withdrawal. As my opponent in my primary comp had him with no emergencies handing me a 100 point win.

  4. This from the ‘In the Mix’ article on afl.com:

“Nick Dal Santo was a late withdrawal from last week’s loss to Collingwood and should come straight back into the side”.

But I’d prefer to hear from someone at St.Kilda

    1. But it’s listed as an indefinite Back injury on tonights injury list release, so there has to be more info or it would be test?

Barry Hall & Buddy are test

        1. Wouldn’t take much notice of the Saints Injury List cos it hasn’t been updated and the time the player is out for, is only a estimation, wait til tomorrow.

  6. Alrite here’s my options,

    4 trades $9,500

    Mids:Swan,Selwood,Bartel,Barlow,K.Cornes,Rischeteli EMG:Moles,Gysberts

I have to trade barlow with not a reliable emergency

either I can trade Barlow to Ablett

or Barlow to Some other gun worth $570,000 or so

or downgrade Moles or Silvagni or P.Davis (In FWD Line)
then Barlow to Montagna or Chappy or someone

    1. Get Chris Judd for Barlow. Only one score below 97, which was his 86 on the weekend, but he’ll turn it around. Don’t get Ablett, most likely he’ll be rested in the last round. Geelong are playing West Coast at Skilled Stadium in R22 (easy win). Chances are Geelong will rest a few stars for finals.

Not sure of your coaching experience or success however resting “a few stars for finals” in the game before the first final is widely considered in contemporary elite sport as a recipe for disaster as this promotes a culture of “flirting with form.” At this level, being down only a minimal level in intensity can mean a bottom team beating a top team which would be the last thing a premiership aspiring coach would want going into finals as it risks having an adverse impact on confidence.
We all acknowledge stars are “rested” at this time of the year however after the Saints’ debacle in rd 19 last year which arguably cost them the momentum to win the premiership, that strategy has been one of rotation in consultation with medical staff as opposed to a collective walk out.
I would expect Bomber would want GAJ up and running back in the mids by rd 22 as all Gold Coast talk will take a back seat to winning another flag and it is more likely that Chappy/Corey will be rested then as they are more susceptable to soft tissue stress injury and have an excellent history of performing well when returning.
        Time will tell!!!

          1. Have a look at who you are likely to play against. I brought in GAJ for Barlow but have not yet lost faith in him however I also have Juddy but I worry about his ability to score big without the team assistance that Carlton can provide with their soft cock seagulls not wanting to help inside.
Given the last 4 rds for the Saints I reckon at that price Lenny Hayes is as good a bet as the other two.

          3. Alrite ive had a look heres my possible trades

            IN: Barlow OUT:Hayes

            then my defence is

            Goddard,Hodge,Shaw,Enright,Waters,Maguire

            wat do u reckon about

            IN: Gilbert OUT: Maguire

remember i only have 4 trades left

            thoughts???

    1. Lotsa Disposals for Smith, looks good. Does anyone know what role he’s actually playing in the team as I can see he kicked a goal.
