  1. Playing for overall

Roberts to Whitfield in 1 trade?

Hard to say whether or not Bice had an effect on Roberts or not. Whitfield also has the saints this week who leak massively to defenders.

    Tu or Td

    • Nah, Nick. Saints are super tight and restrictive atm.

No DEF gone above 30 touches v them and Port’s HBs today scored 80, 70 and 50.

They’re a far cry from last year.

As for Roberts -> Whitfield in general, I think it’s too reactive. GWS’ fixture tightens up and remains to be seen whether Roberts and Bice chop wing and HB again.

Just wait, get your CG right and prepare for upgrades.

Stewart at 400k soon, Ryan also an option.

Trying to get those non scoring non playing rookies off the field.

    • the tag has certainly made this year tough for the premiums.

its still all about Return on investment. if you are buying Sinclair and Whitfield you are paying top dollar and no real value. I’d be looking at players who have had a couple of poor scores (especially for no fault of their own) and wait for them to bottom out – Serong, Daicos, Neale, Heeney, Cripps, Laird, Ryan etc

give it another week of rookie upgrade and then pick the eyes out of the premiums, especially if we get some nice DPP’s (Warner, Tracca or Laird)

  7. I’ve already used 2 boosts so I’m only trading Freijah to Hall but with the cash left over, I could move Lynch up to Darcy. It feels a bit like point chasing but is it worth it?

TU: Yes, Lynch is doing nothing and Darcy could be a top 6-8 forward
TD: no, stay patient and wait for a spike game from Lynch to start cash gen

Yep I faded him for moraes as it fit my structure better going forward.. now I have to pay up 90k more for him but he will still make 200k from here. But well done to those who were smarter than me and got him this week.

Travaglia and hall look good shouts but I’m happy to pass on both, my cows are still fattening up if named.

I Will try back in Callaghan and rozee and prioritise getting rookies offield going forward. Rozee will stop getting tagged soon hopefully and Callaghan was hurt by DE%

Given his scores this year I feel like I’m baiting myself into going with Acres based on his first good game, but his history suggests he’s the most reliable.

  18. Put up a post previously regarding this, however keen to get some more input. Would you bring in Lachie Whitfield this week if the only way was through Matt Roberts?

Whitfield looks to be a top 3 defender and will soon be out of reach (670k). Ultra consistent and a proven Uber premium.

I’m not sure Roberts is a keeper however I do acknowledge he still probably has some more money to make, however Whitfield is only going to rise in cash too which makes it difficult.

    Thoughts appreciated!

    • Whitfield is going great and probably will be a top 6 defender, but he is also expensive and it is only round 4. History tells us that expensive players are likely to drop in price at some time during the season. Even if you don’t think that, and he is a ‘get now or never’, his return on investment means he will need to average 120pts for the rest of the season to be a good pick. (same with Sinclair and Zorko, who is now $620k will need to average 123).

There are other potential other top 6 defenders to look at who, even though they might not average as much as the other big 3, their return on investment will be much greater.

remember that this years prices are understated by about 4% compared to other years, so Whitfield is an old value of $631,200 and players like Sinclair are now the same as a $665,200 player last year.

I’m still looking at Stewart in a few weeks, and possible Laird once he has DPP. Flanders could be $550k in 3 weeks. there is also the chance that Mills gets back to his premium scoring.

      • Appreciate it Derek. Personally I’m not sure I’m prepared to take a punt on someone like a Stewart myself, body is a concern and still remains a tag risk. Completely understand those who are wanting to jump on at a cheap price. I definitely want Whitfield in as I think he will be a top 3 defender, however I might wait a week and hold Roberts and try to get a rookie off the field first. Perhaps makes a little more sense to do things that way..

    • Ugh. Such a tricky question, Jack.

Brayshaw and Libba pretty strong, then obviously both pairs at Brisbane and Gold Coast.

If the nub of your questions is who you should trade in (possibly replacing Day?), I don’t really like any MIDs rn on price and fixture. There’s no one screaming to be picked. Dawson’s been pretty well looked after imo.

Maybe Zerrett? Good next two games, huge work rate – but Essendon are useless.

Unless your hand is forced, I’d be working on other lines and waiting for Bont, Butters and Daicos tbh.

Rankine did look restricted during the last qtr of last weeks game with his calf, spent majority of the time forward and hardly scored at all.

    • Nick. I’m sorry, mate, but you need to stop spreading misinformation with your questions.

Just in this thread you’e said the Saints are great for opp DEF scoring (wrong), Whitfield is going to be 670k soon (wrong) and now that Rankine “spent majority of the time forward and hardly scored at all” (also wrong).

Rankine played full time MID, 20 CBAs, 18/21 contested and a heat map only lit up in the middle of the ground – identical to the role he’s had so far. His issue, in terms of scoring, was his DE (71%) and 7 clangers.

At present he has a corked calf and bleeding, so I also don’t know why you’re bringing up his soft tissue profile.

Appreciate your engagement on the site but you’ve got to stop couching your comments in clear falsehoods dressed up as fact just to justify the trades you want to make.

      It’s alarmist and incorrect.

If you don’t know something, just ask. There’s some great footy IQ and supporter bases on the site.

      • First of all mate, for the past 12-24 months if you have been following the trends, the saints have given up consistently a large amount of points to defenders.. especially to players of the calibre of someone like Lachie Whitfield himself. I also corrected myself on the same thread and clarified that he would soon be 650k*, as I’m sure you would’ve seen. I don’t see how this is ‘falsehood’ at all, it’s very realistic actually with the form he is in.

Did you watch the crows game last week? Rankine had 1 disposal in the last quarter and was clearly hampered by the knock he received to the calf, this was confirmed by Matthew Nicks himself. This isn’t just my opinion or me trying to justify a trade I want to make. Ideally, I don’t want to trade out Rankine at all, but I’m also a realist and understand some players come with higher risk profiles than others.

All good though mate, everyone is entitled to their opinion at the end of the day. All I was doing is asking the question, I’m sure there’s other coaches out there that would be sharing similar concerns. Have a good night!

        • Saints were easy to score against last year but not this year. No one on Geelong or Richmond (exceot for Nank) tonned up against them. No crazy defensive scores from Adelaide either. Burgoyne had been killing it for port off wing/half back and only got 41. There’s no real evidence this year that the saints are a good match up. Whitfield is good against every team so if you want him, go for it but using old data is not the way to justify it

      • Gunboat I feel like you maybe also need to take some of your own advice. Nick mentioned Rankine played fwd in 4th quarter (true) and didn’t touch the ball (true). His heat map wouldn’t reflect this because he didn’t touch the ball. Watching the games gives a much better sense of what’s going on rather than just looking at CBA’s and heat maps.

  44. Tossing up between the safe bet of

    T/u will day to dawson

Or a couple of high risk high reward moves (mainly to get sdk out of my team):

t/d day to petracca (with the assumption I move him forward in next few weeks) and sdk to tom stewart

  45. Okay, here goes. Would mean I’ve used 3 boosts already, but solves a few problems straight away and uses spare cash to upgrade.

    OUT: Day, NOD, Freijah
IN: Whitfield, Zerrett & C Hall

    TU: Do It
    TD: Don’t

TD: Whitfield, Soligo & Bice (I missed the boat last week)

  47. Been watching Thilthorpe Vs Darcy and like that Thilthorpe has been rucking a bit.
Get the feeling that Darcy has burst out of the stalls, but Thilthorpe will be better long term. $60K difference now.
What chances of Thilthorpe getting ruck/ forward status and I haven’t watched Doggies games- can Darcy maintain his form- I’m thinking dogs may drop a little.

    TU- Thilthorpe
    TD- Darcy

  48. Hey everyone. I was just wondering, especially from west coast fans, whether it’s worth trading a low scoring rookie (Stone/hewett) for Hall?
    TU- Yes
    TD- No save a trade

  49. is it too late to get Levi Ashcroft?

NOD >> Levi (puts $60k in bank)

    No sold of Hall’s JS

I like the scoring ability of Levi now we are in best 22. Plus he will get Forward status next week.

Ive forgotten why he had such a low score in round 3 against Geelong, anyone remember.

    • It’s not the worst trade, obviously has excellent JS and not too many rookies coming through, unless El-Hawli gets a non sub go at it

  50. Is it too late to bring in Ryan Maric? Was going to grab him last week but had other issues. Projection has him increasing by $41.4K this week. His M/F would be handy. Unsure of his JS?

    TU : Trade him in
TD : Pass, find a cheaper rookie.

    • NOD is out for 4-6, Callaghan is playing and if you sell now, you lock in the price loss while holding for another spike game could be worthwhile. Easy TD for mine

  54. Went Camporeale, Leake & FOS to Moraes, Bice & Bailey Smith.
    last week.
Def – Sheezel, Dale, Holmes, Roberts, Short , Bice (Trainor, Reid)
Mid – Neale, Rozee, W.Ashcroft, Oliver, L Ashcroft, Lindsey, Henderson, Moraes (Knevitt, Hewett, Hastie )
    Ruc – Xerri, TDK (Boyd)
Fwd – Rankine, Macrae, JHF, Smith, Daniel, Davidson (Stone, Kako)
    Flex – NOD
    $77,400 ITB, 33 trades left, 3 boosts
    Thinking two options
TU – Trade Short & NOD to Whitfield & Clay Hall ($77,800 ITB)/Dudley ($108,200 ITB)
TD – Double downgrade – Hastie & Stone to Clay Hall & Dudley ($152,400 ITB). And trade NOD next week.

    Thoughts/feedback appreciated!

    • JJ what about NOD to Travaglia and then Short to Whitfield if you still wanted to ? Or just the one trade,

You have Trainor on the bench down back who has scored 90 & 82 the last two weeks and I will bet you would play him ahead of a couple of your mid rookies which this would allow you to do ?

I did exactly this except I did not have NOD as flex, but it allowed me to swing Holmes in the midfield and play Trainor with Travaglia on the bench down back

I don’t mind the Brayshaw/Serong POD combo personally but interested in community thoughts ?
