Small or Far Away, Father Dougal on Cows

Hi Everybody!

This week we have a catchphrase.

I have a cunning plan!

That didn’t take long.

I have a cunning plan!

Yes, that is this week’s catchphrase..

I have a cunning plan!

Is it as cunning as a hamster who wants a pumpkin seed?

It is exactly that cunning!  I have a cunning plan!

It is to say “I have a cunning plan” until we give you a Pumpkin seed to make you stop?

I have a cunning plan!

Please make him stop!

( Happy squeak, followed by the sounds of munching)

So, the rest of us all also need cunning plans. This is the time of year when plans start to be useful. Limited downgrade targets, fallen premiums to be bought, bye to be survived. Not having a plan, well, those are all harder.

Not that the plans will matter of course.

Well, probably, no plan survives contact with Sunday Superoach. If that long. On the other hand, not having a plan is usually worse than having one that goes wrong.

So, what should we be planning for?

Well, um, who to downgrade to and when, who to upgrade to and when, how to survive the byes and maybe even do well in them. Also, an overall plan for how to build you team.

Do you have such a plan? Plans?

Well, yeah. How good, I dunno, but I have some.

Share?

Well, I am trying to fix the worst player playing first. Get bad scoring guys off the field. Not guys having a bad week or two but guys who I do and will not want. So, cows are the first to look at, along with injured guys I want to drop.

Like Tom  Stewart?

Toooom!  Stewaaaart!!!  Slowly I turn, step by step, Inch by Inch…

Do something!!!

….Ok, I hadn’t expected you to throw a bag of pumpkin seeds at him, but he did stop.

It hurts, but it’s a happy hurt

Um, so yes, like, you know who, who looks likely to drop and not score and blargh. But, maybe not Bergman, who might well do well again?

What’s the difference?

About 9 years.

But, aside from weird cases, like, you know who, I am not doing sideways trades or using non cows to upgrade from. Brought in cheaper guys like Long, Maric, and Ward, Holding Oliver and Callaghan, trying to bring in player who can make cash or are fallen premiums, and constantly replacing the weakest links.

Is that a good plan?

No idea! But, it is my plan, and I feel happier having 21 non cows and just two of Z Reid, SPP, and Levi on field. I missed Naicos but kept Roberts. Was I right, dunno. Were people who swapped Robest to get Naicos right? Also dunno. I bet some were and some were not and it depends on the rest of the team and cash and all that. But, having a plan has made it easier to know what do to and why I want to do stuff. I want The Bont sooo much, but I know I can;t pay that much and I can’t add another R12 bye player anyway.

Too Many?

Well, now. But SPP will go, leaving me 6, and I can handle that as long as I don;t bring in someone else with R12. I did get Xerri, because his price was so good and I was willing to have 6, but now I am only looking at guys with other byes, so my future self does not hate me.

Again I have fallen into talking about my own team, but it is an easy way to illustrate what I am thinking without doing lots of research, and I am not fond of needless work. Sorry about that.

Any other stuff?

I am really bad ad finishing my teams, and this year it looks extra hard. So, keeping someone like Cerra, who many people are planning to trade out, because by the time I have upgraded Long and Ward, I worry I won;t be able to do better than Cerra, so keeping him saves a trade.

But that’s you and not everyone.

Right! Some people have a good plan of trading him before his bye,and may need to in order to handle R12, so no reason to mess up that plan.

Just have a plan.

Right. Limits provide structure. Goes for stuff like Supercoach as well as other creative things.

But what about the Zen of Supercoach? You like Supercoach Zen!

(Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak…..)

Well, I do think we need to be responsive to events and not try to force plans.  You can’t plan on having a defender rookie to downgrade to 4 weeks from now, there is no way to know that. But, we know who has played one game and who has played two games. So, when we get that date we respond to that and plan based on that the Supercoach gods provide.

But have a plan! I have a cunning plan….

Defenders

Z Reid: Still growing. If he can keep up decent scores he should shoot up the week that 38 goes out of his three round average. Pretty decent on field risk.

Last week: Technically did not ton up again but a 98, so, wow! I suspect that he will need to be sold the first week he has a bad score, since that will tank his BE. We shall see.

Prep for incoming fallen premiums in future weeks.
