Some fresh options out of the first bye
Defenders
Callum Wilkie – 457.5k, (-42.9k), 102 AVG, 78 BE
Spoke about Wilkie last week and his score on Thursday night confirmed him as a solid option. 118 despite playing a more lockdown role, he is super consistent in the backline for the Saints week after week. He won’t get cheaper than this and is great value for that price. Just be mindful that he is a key back, which means he might be more influenced by how the game is played each week even though he’s been very consistent so far. He also shares that late Round 16 bye with a few other premiums including teammates Sinclair and Nas. Still a great pick this week though if you can work around that
James Sicily – 487.4k, (+4.2k), 100 AVG, 102 BE
This one might be cheating a little bit because he’s actually gained money on his starting price, but he’s still under $500k and I don’t love any of the defenders returning from last weeks bye, so Sic it is. Had a bit of an up and down year as Hawthorn have a stacked backline and play a pretty balanced, non SuperCoach-conducive style. He’s gone for tons in 3 of the last 4 though and seems to get a boost when Hardwick gets thrown forward. With the success that move has been giving them, I reckon it’s a button they’re gonna keep pushing for the rest of the season, giving more ball to Sicily. He does have a Round 14 bye and a 102 BE, so I’d wait for that to pass, but he should be on the up from here on out. Other options around here coming off their bye are the likes of Worrell, Parker and Noble/Uwland if you want to trust any of them. I personally don’t but it could pay off as they’ll be great bye cover.
Incoming Price Drops
Lachie Whitfield – 549.1k, 170 BE
Nick Blakey – 544.1k, 168 BE
Archie Roberts 542.5k, 152 BE
Bailey Dale 574.6k, 151 BE
Midfielders
Noah Anderson – 565.9k, (-53.8k), 107 AVG, 89 BE
Unlike the defence, there are a plethora of options coming off their bye last week in the midfield. Anderson had a bad first half of the year before being seemingly kickstarted by 2 big games in Darwin, as he followed that up with a 126 despite a tag. Now after the bye, he looks ready to have a great run in the back end of the season as the Suns start ramping up to September. Might still cop a tag though so watch out for that. Otherwise a great pickup.
Matt Rowell – 514.4k, (-127k), 94 AVG, 88 BE
Anderson’s mate and Brownlow medallist Rowell also finds himself ripe for the picking this week at 514k. Delayed start and subsequent rust due to a hand injury have kept him from last seasons heights, but with 131 under the roof and being fresh off a bye he should get back to regularly scheduled programming. He had a similar dip last year before his bye, then proceeded to average a whopping 131 from there on out. He can be prone to the occasional stinker, but the upside is definitely there, I’d go for him if I needed a mid. LDU and Dawson are also solid options who’ve just had their bye.
Incoming Price Drops
Bailey Smith – 635.3k, 158 BE
Zak Butters – 632.7k, 149 BE
Lachie Neale – 520.9k, 140 BE
Rucks
Tim English – 513k, (-87.9k), 105 AVG, 108 BE
Seems weird to say that the most important Dogs player might not be the best player in the comp that resides on their team. There’s a very strong argument that English holds that title and he did it no disservice on Saturday night. He doesn’t look to have missed a beat and is very underpriced for what he can do. He’s capable of averaging over 120 and the Dogs need to take it up a gear or 2 if they want to do serious damage this year. Just be wary that he’s banged up and also has that pesky Round 16 bye. But he’s also a permanent solo ruck, which is valuable this year. If you don’t want to pay up for the big dogs, he could be that best of both worlds pick.
Darcy Cameron – 434.8k, (-167.5k), 86 AVG, 35 BE
English’s opponent on Saturday also scored a ton and pops up here for the second week straight. He showed he should be a great value pick at a bargain basement price, as he can score all over the ground, not relying too heavily on winning the ruck battle. There is some concern that another Ruck could be brought in to combat his struggles at centre-bounce, but with Steene out, it would probably be one of our mid-season pickups, who will need to heavily impress and then probably play genuine second-fiddle with less game time. Still think he’s a great pickup for that ridiculously cheap price if he keeps the main role. If its too risky for your liking, Jackson and Xerri have another week to go before they’re ripe.
Incoming Price Drops
Tristan Xerri – 631.5k, 188 BE
Luke Jackson – 567.6k, 142 BE
Forwards
Touk Miller – 473.9k, (-112.1k), 96 AVG, 122 BE
The forward scene is just an absolute mess at the moment to be honest. Just when it looked like Flanders was coming good, he is now out for 12 months and every man and his dog needs to find a replacement. It also doesn’t help that the options are a little uninspiring. Miller has been okay without being great this year, which might be enough to make him a viable selection here coming off his bye. Surely he gives you 90-ish each week and will hopefully stay on the park. He also has the capability to do much more than that as we’ve seen in the past, but as an owner I’m just not sure its gonna happen this year. Solid cover and probably one of the safer forwards regardless. If you want to pay a bit more Ryley Sanders is in a rich vein of form right now with 4 straight tons.
Jason Horne-Francis – 443.3k, (-67.9k), 92 AVG, 84 BE
My apologies for including a section about Horne-Francis last week, it completely slipped my mind that Port had a bye. Hopefully no one traded for him, although anyone taking my advice this year would probably have worse problems (*cough* Hugh McCluggage). Here’s those thoughts again, I’m getting him in this week.
Up and down year for the Horney one, much like almost every forward option this year. Looked great a few weeks ago with tons against the hawks and cats, before of course dropping stinkers against worse opponents. Had a great performance last week to intrigue us again, given his extremely low price. He’ll be up and down, but I’d seriously doubt that you’re not gonna get what you pay for at the very least. Just about at the bottom of his price range so a decent option if you want to save a couple bucks.
Kozzie is also an option, although his recent scoring is getting to be slightly concerning just like everyone elses. De Goey is a gigantic risk as always, but you’ll be laughing if he keeps up his recent form. I don’t have the stomach for that one.
Incoming Price Drops
Justin McInerney – 441.8k, 163 BE
Harry Sheezel – 540.8k, 135 BE
Chuck any others you’re looking at down below and I’ll give my 2 cents. I reckon those mids coming off the bye are a good play this week, unfortunately I already have most of them. Good luck everyone.
Dawson and Worrell from Adelaide are both down on their starting prices and are worth a shot in my view as they don’t have a bye left
Maybe I just have a bias against key backs but Worrell has had a few average scores recently. But yeah if you believe in them, targeting the guys who can cover all the other byes is always a good option
I can split the two.
Wilkie or Rowell.
Which ever I pick finishes off that position.
Both great picks. Depending on how your byes are going maybe Rowell because he’s already had his?
McKercher? Need to trade Flanders but already have Sheez, Trac, Pickett and JHF with no DPP. Don’t love Touk as an option and want to save money in the forward line so I can spend it in other lines.
I’d be tempted to say anyone but McKercher the way clarko has been launching his magnet around. Honestly if you want to save money on that F6 spot and you have Jagga/Murdock in there I reckon that’s perfectly viable for the next few weeks
Is Naicos a fallen premium? He’s dropped 108k and now only $520k is he worth bringing in?
Did a write up on Daics last week which still applies, lock him in
Who would you suggest is a better flex option?
T/u wilkie
T/d darcy cameron
And is rowell this week or callaghan next week the better option for a midfield upgrade?
T/u rowell
T/d callaghan
Does anyone think Zac Bailey is a good option for Flanders?
Only $438k and had 5 tons in his first 7 games. He did drop off a bit in form but came back with a 115 last week.
Same story as most of the fwd options, will drop huge scores and stinkers every other week. Think he’s also a good value pick if you prefer him to a JHF/Kozzie type
MacDonald TU from Hawks or Hugo from Adelaide TD
TU: Anderson
TD: Rowell
