Captaincy Candidates – Round 10

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

CRIPPS v Swans

  • L3 v Swans: 133, 108, 157 (133 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 151, 138, 162 (150 av.)

Go caught up in a weird one out ruck role last week but has a tremendous record both at Marvel and against the Swans. Major test for the Blues, Cripps at the helm for 130.

MACRAE v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 124, 146, 169 (146 av.)
  • L3 @ MARS: 131, 137, 119 (129 av.)

Cruised for 37 touches last week and, like all the Dogs, loves the elusive deck down at The Rat. Tight battle for sure, Macrae solid for 125.

MILLER v Dogs:

  • L3 v Dogs: 120, 96, 140 (119 av.)
  • L3 @ MARS: 143 (143 av.)

Kicked himself out a 150 late last week but still in great form, vibing with Witts and the Suns are eager to take another scalp. Miller to give it everything and carve up a smaller ground for 140.

Captaincy Candidates

SATAN v Roos

  • L3 v Roos: 116, 137, 109 (121 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 166, 139, 133 (146 av.)

Put the tools down late against the Eagles but premo MIDs are still always worth a look against the Roos. Solid for 120, anything more than than will depend on how much the Roos compete.

BRAYSHAW v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 110, 106, 74 (97 av.)
  • L3 @ OS: 134, 104, 95 (111 av.)

A popular Steele replacement despite a very limp performance last week. Should bounce back as the Pies are one of the best SC midfield match ups, so Brayshaw 125 at a minimum. Similarly, despite b*tching it with a 51, Darcy also warrants a mention coming up against a Grundy-less Pies. One of his customary monster scores on the cards possibly.

NEALE v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 70, 157, 114 (114 av.)
  • L3 @ UTAS: 70, 120, 123 (104 av.)

A down SC fortnight but still been finding 30+ and looking phenomenal. The Hawks have been one of the premiere sides to VC/C into this season and a tighter contest in Tassie will help bring out the best of Neale’s CP work. Looking ripe for 140.

Steer Clear

DUNKLEY v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 148, 87, 80 (105 av.)
  • L3 @ MARS: 142, 65, 106 (104 av.)

Scoring well and probably nabs a nice one at Mars but been playing mostly forward having to come up to forward of center stoppages to find the ball. Just the 6 CBAs last week, so look elsewhere so as not to eat a low-ton.

Smoky Pick

MILLS v Blues

  • L3 v Blues: 117, 108, 93 (106 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 70, 83, 127 (93 av.)

He’s the highest ceiling MID going around right now and many are ponying up the 80k for him as a Steele replacement. Interestingly, his largest scores have been in pumpings: 214 v Hawks (Swans by 41) and 167 v Dons (Swans by 58). Has also managed 3x 130+’s in close ones but so far that insane ceiling seems to be unlocked in soft kills. Nevertheless, Blues Swans should be a heavily contested, high stoppage game making Mills a look for 130.

Verdict

At this stage it’s Satan into Neale for me. If I follow through with Mills in for Steele, I might welcome him to my team with the VC but Satan and Neale both with killer match ups. Long debuting might force me into a straight C however!

  1. Tossing up betweeen Cripps/Macrae/Clarry for the VC and Neale/Brayshaw for the C.

    Great write-up GD!

    1. Likewise! Helps when your only loophole option (Hollands) plays the Saturday day game. Big one from Crippa incoming

      1. I’m still scarred by MacRae’s rubbish score in Ballarat earlier this year. Might avoid him so watch him go 150 .

    1. Yep, Clarky and others who mentioned him, Witts a great option.

Not a bunch of stats as it’s down in Ballarat and he hasn’t played the Dogs on the form he’s in for a while.

Goes large, a great early VC.

  2. Lots of good choices but Oliver into Neale is a bit of a no brainer to me. Both quality mids that can go massive, playing lower quality opposition.

  3. Looking at going Witts into Neale.

Witts likely up against only Sweet so should go huge I reckon

I am definitely tempted by both Mills and Cripps but I suspect they may play on each other and cancel each other out. McGuane is recommending Kennedy mind Crisps which if i new was going to happen might sway me.

In addition, I don’t really like putting the C on a player 2 weeks in a row where they have gone huge the week before (means they get extra attention the next week) so unlikely Mills gets it again.

  4. Now, I am prepared to accept cash payments…
I will nominate who I’m going to Captain for this round- will be a premo expected to kill it! Then you’ll be able to steer clear of my choice and end up with great chance to ‘kill it’ as my choice all of a sudden develops ‘scurvy’ and has their worst scoring round of the year!

    1. I will just do what I always do.
I’ll spend an hour working out and setting up 3 or 4 different loops.
Then at the last minute I will forget why I set it up like that, decide it looks like complete crap, and change it to a more sensible straight forward looking side.
In the process destroying any chance I have of looping anyone.

  5. With Long named for hawks my whole screen has lit up with green ticks so I don’t have a loophole. So better play it safe. Cripps into Oliver for me. Good luck all

    1. Same – the only VC loophole I have is D Stephens, and he is in the first game on Friday night.

1st versus 2nd in my main league, and now I get only one crack at a captain 🙁 🙁

So am tossing up between these “should be pretty safe” Captain options:

Macrae versus Gold Coast Suns at MARS Stadium
Oliver versus North Melbourne at Marvel
      Neale versus Hawks in Tasmania

Would appreciate any thoughts on who I should Captain from this wonderful community!!

      1. Any of those three options you mentioned are great for straight Cs.

Neale would be my choice but go with your gut on this one, Brett.

MID scores have been really weird this season.

        1. Thanks GD – much appreciated 🙂

Agree on the MID scores being a bit weird this year – who would have thought that Oliver would have only busted out a 99 against the weakened WCE mids last week.

Have narrowed my straight Captain choice to either Macrae or Neale – and will see what the gut tells me on the weekend.

  6. Macrae or Miller loop into Neale.

I get this wrong every week so I need some help…

    TU loop Miller
    TD: loop Macrae

  7. Macrae into Oliver for me. Wouldn’t mind Cripps into Macrae but feel a lot safer with Macrae as a VC

  8. I’m going with Neale as Captain but tossing up with my VC I’ve only got Hamilton to loop so can go any Saturday star

    TU – Laird
    TD – Macrae

  9. Took a chance with Cripps as VC, and that failed. Who should I put the C on?

TU: Neale (who most of my opponents have the C on)
    TD: Oliver

    1. Hey Prawn.

I think Freo must feel he’s fit as they are playing him as solo ruck ( No Meek)

The Pies have included Cox but I doubt he will put up much of a challenge to Darcy.

Neale is probably safer if you have him, Darcy could go huge though.

      1. I just love watching him play so keen to roll the dice !

Do you think the rain will impact him much ?

        1

        0
        1. Rain usually means more stoppage, could help. It might affect his marking around the ground, I still think he scores well. On ly really worries is an early injury. Fingers crossed he stays fit !
