Captaincy Candidates – Round 11

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on May 26 2022

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

MILLS v Tigers

  • L3 v Tigers: 109, 179, 62 (117 av.)
  • L3 @ SCG: 167, 60, 139 (122 av.)

Struggled to ton last week against the competition’s best contested possession side and having his CBA load halved by time on the wing didn’t help either. Better match up this week with the Tigers at home, priming him for a 130.

NEALE v Giants

  • L3 v Giants: 87, 151, 85 (108 av.)
  • L3 @ G: 123, 117, 105 (115 av.)

There’s a chance De Boer or a returning Ash give him a look after Shiels effectiveness on him last week, but if that head to head battle doesn’t look set to materialize Neale will be solid for 120 as a VC.

SATAN v Dockers

  • L3 v Dockers: 122, 94, 114 (110 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 135, 119, 168 (141 av.)

Satan was comfortably the captaincy choice last week with an insane 45 touches, 22 contested and 621 MG for 178. Comes up against the Dockers at the G this week, with a strong engine room v engine room battle sure to draw out his phenomenal CP work. 125+ at a minimum.

Captaincy Candidates

MACRAE v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 117, 137, 137 (130 av.)
  • L3 @ OS: 137, 129, 84 (117 av.)

Faded late against the Suns and clipped back by some uncharacteristic use issues but was otherwise on track for a serviceable score with 34 touches. Now comes up against West Coast…expect two thirds of the Dogs to ton, including 140 for Macrae and all the other MIDs!

WITTS v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 59, 119, 51 (76 av.)
  • L3 @ TIO: 86 (86 av.)

Still hating myself for starting Reily f*cking O’Brien aka SLOB over Witts. To think R1 was at 380k to start the season and is now averaging 119.8. Witts’ scoring stream is pure HO dominance and honed in HTA work and with first, second and third choices in Reeves, McEvoy and Lynch all out of commission Witts is reportedly set to ruck against either Koschitzke, Nash, Frost or Nash – lol. He’ll be on 150 by 3QT.

MILLER v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 153, 98, 88 (113 av.)
  • L3 @ TIO: 102 (102 av.)

Had his first genuinely bad game last week with just the 19 touches at 42%. With silver service from Witts and the Suns trying to maintain the rage, expect Miller to bounce right back for 130.

Steer Clear

GAWN v Dockers

  • L3 v Dockers: 93, 132, 151 (125 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 82, 172, 123 (126 av.)

It’ll be clash of the titans against Darcy this week, expecting highly physical contest to contain the both of them to low-tons. Plenty of options elsewhere.

Smoky Pick

PETRACCA v Dockers

  • L3 v Dockers: 98, 140, 101 (113 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 106, 131, 87 (108 av.)

A good shout this week as it’s those high octane games where the Dees are actually challenged that brings out best in Racca’s high score involvement game. Tons easily but a chance for 140 if he puts up one of his signature performances. The stage is set.

Verdict

It’ll be Mills into Satan for me, very happy with that. However for those astute enough to have Witts, try and figure him into your calculations.

  2. Does anyone have stats for Laird? Coming up against the Cats, but he’s been playing some great footy!

    1. Thanks Abs, those are some decent numbers, just need to decide whether to VC him or Oliver!

Also, I believe the game is at GMHBA this week

    1. Hey, Mad Dog.

Yeah, on paper it should be an excellent match up but Cripps has been in this weird one out ruck role the last fortnight and it’s hampering his scoring. Basically blocked out of any scoring at stoppages where he’s rucking.

Could still pop off given the occasion but I’d be cautious of straight C’ing.

      Here are his stats:

      CRIPPS v Pies

      L3 v Pies: 82, 81, 120 (94 av.)
      L3 @ MCG: 119, 132, 88 (113 av.)

  3. Have very proudly had Witts since the get go. He’s had a charmed run against a lot of 2nd and 3rd string rucks. He’ll definitely feature in my leadership group this week.

Most likely to go Oliver or Macrae into Witts.

    1. Count me in as well…..as long as I have a loophole. Only MacDonald of my squad was missing last week.
Dunno if MacDonald comes back but possibly Dixon and/or Carroll may miss this week I hear.

  5. Falling behind dropping more then 3000 places last week to 13530.
Need to lift to propel GB league get an even higher rank than 27.
Might do a first and include my probable 2 inclusions this week as Vc Witts and C Walsh .

    1. Nah, not on that team high CBA load he had a few weeks ago and the Swans a pretty restrictive side.

  6. With Bailey Smith now out, do we think that this will assist Macrae’s CBA’s (even more) & assist his scoring?

I’m thinking Smith absence makes Macrae even more appealing for Captain against the WCE, but be interested to see what others think?

I am thinking of going either Neale or Oliver into Macrae at this stage – but will need Jack Carroll to get dropped (and not be the medi-sub) to be able to do this?

    1. Doesn’t affect Macrae, Brett.

He’s the Dogs top CB attendee either way.

It’ll help guys like Dunkley and Libba.

Macrae to do tremendously v Eagles either way.

  7. Neale into Bont for me this week.

I think Bont may go for a 140+ score this week as Mids who can push forward have done very well against the weagles of late (mcclugage, trac, bolton). However, not too many C choices for me on Sunday so I’ll bank a 120+ from Neale.
