Captaincy Candidates – Round 12

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on June 1 2023

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

PETRACCA v Blues

  • L3 v Blues: 99, 101, 126 (109 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 122, 148, 167 (146 av.)

Added a consistency string to his SC bow this year. Dominates at the G and the Blues engine room is a good. Opens with 130.

DAICOS v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 125 (125 av.)
  • L3 @ OS: 65 (65 av.)

The Eagles baulked at tagging Zerrett last week, even with O’Neil coming in as a late change. Can actually see us gunning for Daicos but given his potential ceiling in a 1st plays 18th match up he’s a good look for the VC. 125 at a minimum if left alone with scope to go really large.

DE GOEY v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 138, 4, 119 (87 av.)
  • L3 @ OS: 82, 4, 151 (79 av.)

Had a such pure performance last week and is the Pies midfield constant at the moment. As an in form MID, it’s 120+ against the Eagles

Captaincy Candidates

ENGLISH v Cats

  • L3 v Cats: 79, 80, 65 (75 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 88, 90, 139 (106 av.)

Hasn’t gone 130+ in over a month but Briggs but Ceglar to the sword, so Tingles should be able to do the same at Marvel. Solid for 120.

GREEN v Tigers

  • L3 v Tigers: 106, 71 (89 av.)
  • L3 @ GS: 119, 100, 106 (108 av.)

Tigers not as soft now that they’ve been galvanized by Dimma’s departure but still a solid enough match up for Green. Comfortable ton, more if he and Cogs can overpower Taranto early.

MERRETT v Roos

  • L3 v Roos: 140, 114, 117 (124 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 111, 114, 73 (99 av.)

He either goes 140 or 90 this week. Late in game corkie and the potential for Scott to match up perfectly on him but, yeah, it’s North. Dealer’s choice.

Steer Clear

BONTEMPELLI v Cats

  • L3 v Cats: 98, 109, 143 (117 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 112, 122, 89 (108 av.)

Using the Steer Clear just as an asterisk for Bont this week just because of the Cats density and capacity of Blicavs to match up on him. Would only consider as a VC and not a straight C. Still tons.

Smoky Pick

DAWSON v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 140, 158, 74 (124 av.)
  • L3 @ TIO: N/A (N/A)

Squeezed Dawson in here given the lack of data for him and Baird at TIO as well as the Suns new found density. Both quality players, so good for tons, just not a whole lot to go on.

TARANTO v Giants

  • L3 v Giants: N/A (N/A)
  • L3 @ GS: 111, 69, 112 (97 av.)

This will be interesting. Taranto is in truly sensational form (well outside of SC) and obviously knows the Giants and GS quite well. Grudge match, fires on all cylinders. Baseline of 120.

History

  • Round 1: Green 132
  • Round 2: Baird 147
  • Round 3: Satan 156
  • Round 4: Tingles 145
  • Round 5: Tingles 137
  • Round 6: Miller 40
  • Round 7: Satan 134
  • Round 8: Satan 136
  • Round 9: Tingles 88
  • Round 10: RoMo 126
  • Round 11: Baird 115

Verdict

De Goey into Zerrett for me. Originally had Tingles as C but not super excited about his scoring range, although comes back in if I get cold feet on Zerrett.

  1. With the captain loop can you nominate a player on the bye and hold him until final game on Sunday and then change to warm blood on field as captain? This only if your vc has a stinker. Is it worth trading in Briggs just to make cash as I also want Ford and have 20 trades left…thank you for helping ..

    1. Hi Dragoons,

You’re correct, bye players aren’t locked out until the start of the final game of the round, so yes you’d be able to make any loops using bye players up until then.

Re; trades, depends on your team I suppose, but 20 trades is a pretty healthy position vs a lot of other coaches. Both players are poised to make some decent cash so I wouldn’t be against the idea.

All the best for the next few weeks.

  2. Thoughts on Tom Stewart GD? Either as VC or C. Feel like geelong r below their best and Stewart could see plenty of the ball

  3. This week I am thinking of the following:

    Daicos for the V
Dawson / Laird for the C

Honestly do not think i will have to worry about captain as tipping Daicos to go HUGE!!

  4. Thinking maybe punting on Redman (as Captain) to go large against Kanga’s in last game of the round.

  5. TU: Naicos V into Dawson C
TD: Naicos V into Zerrett C

Comment: Dawson V into Zerrett C

Thinking that TU is safest but TD has more potential upside.

    Cheers.

  6. No Pittonet makes me want to have a look at Gawn. But just can’t go there at the moment.
Going DeGoey as VC. Hope I don’t need the C because I am really not sure past that. At a push Taranto. No wait Dawson.
