Captaincy Candidates – Round 2

Captaincy Candidates

De Koning v Hawks

L3 v Hawks: 51, 55 (53 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 148, 176, 146 (156 avg.)

TDK’s immense athletic capacity, ATG economy and solid development as an actual ruck sort of makes him opponent proof. Nank put in a shift last week and TDK still danced around him for the best Round 1 ruck score. The Hawks will keep things much tighter ATG but still like him for 120. He’s loving life at the G too.

Rozee v Tigers

L3 v Tigers: 113, 90 ,111 (105 avg.)

L3 @ AO: 96, 108, 113 (106 avg.)

Great job to those who saw past the toe injury and backed Rozee in. He certainly did not disappoint last week, tabling the 14th best score of the round (128), 35 touches and 680 MG in a thumping loss. That’s great stuff. Port’s fortunes should be on the up against the Tigers at home. Richmond are running, it looks like, McIntosh as a tagger but he didn’t play that close shoulder and Cripps still blustered his way to 120. Likely better suited to the more physical JHF. Rozee solid for 125.

Neale v Eagles

L3 v Eagles: 143, 142, 123 (136 avg.)

L3 @ G: 166, 87, 78 (110 avg.)

MIDs auto C v Eagles for the foreseeable future. Rowell 137, Anderson 136, Miller 128 last week. Neale to bounce back and bounce back hard. 140.

Dunkley v Eagles

L3 v Eagles: 103, 143, 132 (126 avg.)

L3 @ G: 124, 105, 69 (99 avg.)

Same deal as his clipped colleague. 140.

Zorko v Eagles

L3 v Eagles: 93, 63, 123 (93 avg.)

L3 @ G: 108, 117, 129 (118 avg.)

The Suns HB line all went 70+, with highs of Rioli and Jeffrey in the 90s. That’s a good spread and Zorko’s far more of a monopolizer than any of them. Parks up nice and high for that spitfire, repeat entry economy. On for 125 but definitely prefer the MIDs over him.

Sheezel v Dees

L3 v Dees: 117, 56, 107 (93 avg.)

L3 @ MRVL: 106, 105, 138 (116 avg.)

An almost game for Sheezel last week. 2 behinds, 67% DE and a bunch of work his team mates just didn’t get on the end of. Fundamentals in ground coverage and disposal still strong. Solid for 120.

Petracca v North

L3 v North: 125, 167, 114 (136 avg.)

L3 @ MRVL: 120, 81, 114 (105 avg.)

Petracca’s 51% also confined him to an understated start to the season as the Giants refused to relent. He, Gawn and Satan faltered late but they’ll all find it easier to fill up against North. Petracca a lock for 130.

Smoky Picks

Day v Blues

L3 v Blues: 40, 65, 73 (59 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 77, 10, 40 (42 avg.)

The Blues lacked synergy on ball and control across the ground. Back the Hawks and Day to jump on that. 120.

Daicos v Dogs

L3 v Dogs: 156, 139, 69 (121 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 98, 186, 116 (133 avg.)

He’s been tagged and bashed around over the first fortnight of footy but just feels like such a Daicos move to whip out a big score as we’re all passing. If you’ve got a super secure Lions C, he isn’t the worst shout having carved far stronger Dogs’ sides before.

Horne-Francis v Tigers

L3 v Tigers: 78, 66, 87 (77 avg.)

L3 @ AO: 92, 124, 78 (98 avg.)

Yet to see JHF’s ceiling with proper on ball continuity. Tigers at home a great opportunity to do that. 130 if Port render it no contest early.

Smith v St Kilda

L3 v St Kilda: 87, 91, 97 (92 avg)

L3 @ MRVL: 77, 59, 105 (80 avg.)

Suppose if you have a Lion C and want to dick around, ceiling and form chasing on Smith v Saints could add a little something to your Saturday. Appears to be in an outside role and will carve it up when supply is strong. Goes 140 if St Kilda were as impotent as last week.

Steer Clear

Gawn v Xerri

I mean, they’re both beasts and could easily be one of those old school duke outs where they both pop off but think there are better options than hedging your bets between the two best rucks going around.

Dockers v Swans

With it being the last game of the round and Jordon floating about, I’d pass on all Dockers. Brayshaw, Serong, Clark, the lot of them. If any of them score well, just take it as a cherry on top of your weekly score. Of the bunch, if Clark is left alone I like his economy against the Swannies the most.

Verdict

Without question go Dunkley/Neale if you’ve got them. 140s were conservative estimates. Rest of the candidates named all very safe for 120s in what should be an easy week.

Another same line combo for me with Borko and Sheez.

  1. Thoughts/Stats on Merrett against the Crows this week? At Marvel, was everywhere last week just poor DE%. Not sure the Crows will tag rather backing in their mids to be more dominant?

  2. any thoughts on Rankine vs Dons for smokey VC?

    Or Dawson?

All my other C/VC options play on sunday and have limited opportunities for a quick switchover

    • Dons ran a tag last week. Didn’t like either considering that and the interstate venue.

One goes well but I’d be using the VC/C elsewhere.

    • Prefer named candidates to Cripps. Hawks very dense OB and ATG.

Go for it if you’ve got a feeling and have a safe Lions back up but I wouldn’t hold out for much lol.
