Captaincy Candidates – Round 21

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on August 6 2021

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

WALSH v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 89, 98, 80 (89 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 141, 81, 131 (118 av.)

Even with defensive attention last week 84% DE and 3 goals still saw Walsh jet to a large score. Suns let Satan and Racca do 300+ between them last week, so put Walsh down for another 140.

MILLER v Blues

  • L3 v Blues: 132, 102, 122 (119 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 142, 153, 96 (130 av.)

Excellent ceiling at Marvel, carries the Suns each week, tremendous work rate and should put the Blues to the sword. A lock for 140, will fight it out with Walsh to topscore.

STEELE v Swans

  • L3 v Swans: 140, 129, 98 (122 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 158, 145, 154 (152 av.)

Even though the Swans are generally a pretty restrictive midfield, they didn’t use Hewett defensively last week and Steele’s CP and tackling work can’t be stopped – no less at Marvel. 125 at a minimum.

Captaincy Candidates

MITCHELL v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 122, 167, 128 (139 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 171, 118, 142 (144 av.)

Really starting to look like his former self, closing out the back end of the season strongly and entering into 2022 starting MID calculations. Loves the MCG and Pies great to VC into lately, bank 130.

MACRAE v Dons

  • L3 v Dons: 122, 137, 131 (130 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 124, 116, 138 (126 av.)

Ultra consistent, does his best work at Marvel and solid stats v Dons. Bank another 130.

SATAN v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 99, 140, 115 (118 av.)
  • L3 @ OS: 99, 115, 93 (102 av.)

Eagles have devolved to one of the worst possession and CP teams in the league, resultingly letting off some huge MID scores of late. A cruisy 140 for Satan at a minimum.

Steer Clear

DANGERFIELD v Giants

  • L3 v Giants: 83, 66, 108 (86 av.)
  • L3 @ GMHBA: 184, 95, 75 (118 av.)

Giants been sending Ash to opp. MIDs after CBs. He likely goes to Danger and then starts on him when out of CBs. He’ll still ton, just won’t have the ceiling of the other candidates this week.

Smoky Pick

PETRACCA v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 105, 52, 76 (78 av.)
  • L3 @ OS: 105, 76, 54 (82 a.v.)

With the Dees likely to pump us and our aforementioned CP deficiencies, Racca could be in for a customary large one. 140+ if we really let things get out of hand.

Verdict

My main man Miller into Satan for me.

  1. Thanks Gunboat.

I like Walsh ( over Steele ) as a VC this week.

Depending on match ups, I may go Brayshaw at home, as a pod Captain.

Brisbane haven’t looked that great lately, another week at home should put young Andy in the frame for another big score.

He was everywhere last week, and has a great record with Fyfe missing.

I’m going to pass on the Doggies boys v the Bombers this week.
Clarkes back , and with Langford out, may get a bit more midfield rotation. He’s a pretty affective tagger on his day.

Thanks again GD. Love you’re work.

    1. Hey, FT.

Yep, agree on all counts: Walsh a must VC, passing on Big Dogs myself and Brayshaw now on a proper CBA and TOG load a great choice.

      Good luck.

  2. Spewing I won’t know if Luke Edwards is named until late on Saturday.

Unfortunately it will have to be A. Hall into Mitchell / Macrae / Oliver

Was never able to get Walsh or Steele and it kills me.
