Captaincy Candidates – Round 5

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on April 11 2024

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

PETRACCA v Lions

  • L3 v Lions: 113, 97, 97
  • L3 @ MCG: 146, 119, 106

Racca went exactly as expected against the Crows. Tallying 29 touches, 15 contested, a goal and 140. Lions pretty hollow. Good for 140 again.

GAWN v Lions

  • L3 v Lions: 215, 74, 138
  • L3 @ MCG: 113, 162, 91

53% shaved down what would have been another large one for Maxxy – although 129 is nothing to scoff at. Xerri put McInerney on blast, so it’ll be no thang for Maxxy to join Racca with a 140. Dropped a double on them last time.

BONTEMPELLI v Dons

  • L3 v Dons: 126, 115, 123
  • L3 @ MRVL: 110, 136, 162

Bont bouncing back was the right bet. While Libba carried the contested load, Bont was smooth, sharp and scoreboard oriented. Like him for 125 this week.

ENGLISH v Dons

  • L3 v Dons: 134, 123, 204
  • L3 @ MRVL: 124, 138, 118

Tingles is still coughing up some of that ruck time to Darcy but comes in with some good match stats and should be able to steam roll Draper and Goldstein. Solid for 120.

Captaincy Candidates

GREEN v Saints

  • L3 v Saints: 119, 108, 50
  • L3 @ MO: 135, 58, 49

3 FAs and the strength of the Suns OB handed Green his lowest score for the season – a 109. Will be back on track against the Saints with 130.

ROWELL v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 87, 62, 72
  • L3 @ PFS: 155, 137, 78

Going at 130 and starting to rival Libba as the Coal Face King. Gets the Hawks, who just leaked to the Pies on ballers, and heads back to the Gold Coast. Liking 140. Miller nice too.

RYAN v Port

  • L3 v Port: 114, 93, 100
  • L3 @ AO: 111, 111, 70

Not super jazzed with the Port boys against a tough Freo midfield or that tough Freo midfield playing interstate, so I’ve drawn Ryan from this one. Nice fall back for 120.

Steer Clear

No Steer Clear this week. Everything on the table.

Smoky Pick

LDU v Cats

  • L3 v Cats: 134, 124, 87
  • L3 @ GMHBA: 134, 124

Cats playing some great football but are pretty bare bones on ball. This kind of hollow midfield match up on a small deck is just what LDU needs to get his form back on track. Good history, goes 130.

History

  • Round 1: Green 152
  • Round 2: Green 137
  • Round 3: Gulden 73
  • Round 4: Butters 119

Verdict

Going to dig myself out of the last fortnight’s rut with Bont into Rowell on debut. If you’ve got Gawn or Racca, pat yourself on the back and give one of them a look.
