Captaincy Candidates – Round 7

Captaincy Candidates

Gawn v Tigers

L3 v Tigers: 162, 174, 98 (145 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 117, 88, 129 (111 avg.)

Those two big historic scores against the Tiges were against a Nank-Ryan duo and then just Soldo. Nank formidable as an opponent but no restrictive; gives away frees and doesn’t track that well from end to end. Maxxy solid for 120.

Daicos v Dons

L3 v Dons: 92, 128, 145 (122 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 94, 125, 98 (106 avg.)

Setters will go for him but Daicos has scored 300 over two weeks while tagged for 1.5 of those games. Right as rain.

Zerrett v Pies

L3 v Pies: 145, 127, 133 (135 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 145, 89, 116 (117 avg.)

I’ve scantly named MIDs into the recently restrictive Pies but Zerrett’s got the history and ANZAC Day should occasion a captain’s performance. I like him for 125.

Brayshaw v Crows

L3 v Crows: 97, 114, 127 (113 avg.)

L3 @ OS: 135, 131, 106 (124 avg.)

Crows open contest, Brayshaw a lock for 120. Serong due and also nice here. And there’s another Docker we’ll get to later…

Sinclair v Lions

L3 v Lions: 142, 135, 133 (137 avg.)

L3 @ MRVL: 70, 162, 145 (126 avg.)

The Lions are one of those Sinc shouldn’t score well against but does. Exquisite match up numbers and expecting him and the Saints to bounce back. A look for 130.

Dunkley v Saints

L3 v Saints: 82, 90, 122 (98 avg.)

L3 @ MRVL: 82, 104, 99 (95 avg.)

Neale getting done by Windhager brings Dunkley out of his defensive midfielder shell. That really opens his scoring as he eats up that OB economy. Got him, and another Lion, going 130+.

De Koning v Cats

L3 v Cats: 176, 82, 93 (117 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 101, 104, 148 (118 avg.)

Provided Pittonet isn’t named, TDK will fix up Stanely for 120 comfortably.

Smoky Picks

Petracca v Tigers

L3 v Tigers: 93, 141, 104 (113 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 94, 80, 98 (91 avg.)

His contested profile and use have just been tragic but gotta back him to fill his boots against the Tiges. Can see Richmond’s recent uptick in form actually making conditions even better for Racca. Safely 120 with scope for more, obviously.

Clark v Crows

L3 v Crows: 119, 90, 86 (98 avg.)

L3 @ OS: 101, 104, 122 (109 avg.)

Whitfield 145, Holmes 147, Rioli 163 and Daniel 116. The last few HB scores v Crows, with Holmes having had spots of down back in that outing. Clark to fire up.

Ashcroft v Saints

L3 v Saints: 62, 62 (62 avg.)

L3 @ MRVL: 92, 62, 62 (72 avg)

Same deal as Dunks digging into the Neale-less midfield economy and the Saints were just shameful OB last week – I swear no one besides Macrae does anything. 120.

Rozee v Roos

L3 v Roos: 35, 105, 116 (85 avg.)

L3 @ AO: 137, 76, 130 (114 avg.)

Setting aside how soft it is, Rozee’s just loving life at HB at the minute. Bergman, Farrell and Evans far too disclipined enough to gull up the departed Houston’s economy – ‘not a problem!’ Rozee has said. Tracks nicely for 120 this week. For who’ve snuffled Butters this week, he’s also money.

Newcombe v Eagles

L3 v Eagles: 105, 118, 94 (106 avg.)

L3 @ MRVL: 96, 95, 129 (107 avg.)

Bit of a self-nom but seen a few others in this week’s Trade Talk considering him, so Nuke. At home. Against the Eagles. Hopefully his 130 will be a silver lining of my attendance on Sunday.

Steer Clear

Neale v Saints

L3 v Saints: 103, 70, 114 (96 avg.)

L3 @ MRVL: 103, 134, 110 (116 avg.)

Windhager. Pass.

Verdict

The new centerpiece of my team gets the C this week and will give me a reason to look away from the massacre and check my phone during the game. Into him it’ll be Brayshaw or even Daicos, as weird as it feels to go head first into a tag.

    • Mentioned Serong w Brayshaw. Also good.

Reluctant to name Rowell. Jordon in no way matches up on him well – far better suited to Ando – but didn’t name him just in case he does go to him.

    • Sweet very restrictive.

Ruck scores v Sweet this year:

      DCam 74, Nank 67, RoMo 61, Meek 105, Grundy 139.

Xerri probs overpowers him but on paper not a good match up.

  1. Big Max on a Thursday night coming off three straight tonnes against a teams he’s gone two straight 160+ has to be the biggest VC lock of the year.
Will take 130, otherwise onto Naicos.

    • Ffs, I knew I’d forgotten someone when I wrote this up late last night.

      Yes – absolutely!

DCam a sensational call if you’ve got him.

    • I don’t think he has the two way work or economy outside of clearance to warrant VC/Cing.

Him hitting the top of his range, which is what we’re all hoping for, would just be 120~.

  2. Thanks GD, great analysis as always .
No love for Hewitt (Carlton) ? Seems like he is proving to be the break-out player this year, and a POD too.

  3. After your thoughts, bank Daicos 125 or roll the dice on Xerri going bigger…

TU Always bank anything over 120

TD Xerri will run around sweet and easily surpass 120

    • It’s high risk low reward. Sure, xerri could score 150, could also get injured or just have a terrible game, it’s been known to happen even against wek opposition. Realistically, you probably end up with a few extra points at the risk of an early injury that screws up your entire week.
