Captaincy Candidates – Round 9

Captaincy Candidates

Brayshaw v Pies

L3 v Pies: 84, 114, 94 (97 avg.)

L3 @ OS: 157, 135, 131 (141 avg.)

L3 MID v Pies: 111, 89, 113 (104 avg.)

A MID against the Pies is a tall order but it’s do or die for the Dockers and JL tonight. Ceiling capped against the Pies but Brayshaw’s work rate should make him good for his average.

Daicos v Dockers

L3 v Dockers: 130, 130, 65 (108 avg.)

L3 @ OS: 130, 123, 65 (106 avg.)

L3 MID v Dockers: 160, 76, 94 (110 avg.)

A fair chance the Dockers try and conjure up a negating match up on him with the vacuum left by Young but you can never count the kid out. Solid for 120.

Gawn v Hawks

L3 v Hawks: 113, 91, 94 (99 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 174, 117, 88 (126 avg.)

L3 RUC v Hawks: 72, 105, 53 (77 avg.)

On form, Maxxy gets a shout. 35 touches, 22 contested and 47 HOs last week. Definitely tons.

Bontempelli v Suns

L3 v Suns: 136, 124, 130 (130 avg.)

L3 @ TIO: 124 (124 avg.)

L3 MID v Suns: 124, 109, 146 (126 avg.)

Now that he’s reached double digits in ownership, I’ll start writing up Bont. Very solid against the ailing Suns, who let 3/4 Lions MIDs go 125+ last week.

Xerri v Lions

L3 v Lions: 115, 81, 29 (75 avg.)

L3 @ NIN: 185, 151, 119 (152 avg.)

L3 RUC v Lions: 54, 133, 90 (92 avg.)

Gets it done down in Tassie. A lock for 130.

Neale v Roos

L3 v Roos: 125, 176, 105 (135 avg.)

L3 @ NIN: 156 (156 avg.)

L3 MID v Roos: 172, 162, 171 (168 avg.)

Neale and the Lions onballers to devastate the Roos here. 140+. Ash, Cluggers and even Dunks all good shouts too.

Smoky Picks

De Koning v Saints

L3 v Saints: 83, 87, 18 (63 avg.)

L3 @ MCG: 135, 101, 104 (113 avg.)

L3 RUC v Saints: 72, 116, 90 (93 avg.)

Can see TDK putting in a real contested possession shift against the Saints light stoppage engine.

Port v Crows

Dawson, Rankine, JHF, Butters, Rozee. The Showdown brings out the best of the SA boys.

Steer Clear

Zerrett v Swans

L3 v Swans: 74, 132, 139 (115 avg.)

L3 @ MRVL: 172, 106, 74 (117 avg.)

L3 MID v Swans: 133, 89, 164 (129 avg.)

I honestly think he breaks him, but Zerrett is 100% copping Jordon this week.

Verdict

I’m a little thin on the ground this week with no Xerri – who owners can and should back up into. Daicos into Gawn at this stage. I may pazz out and Nank into West Coast.

    • Named him last week v Crows, who’d been great for MIDs, and he disappointed.

Not opposed to it, Maaz. Saints have a tendency to get blown away at stoppage late.

  1. Hmmm, ‘Maxy definitely tonnes!’
Given that many have bought him in this week- MURPHY says that Maxy might fail!

  2. Always look forward to this read. Thanks GB

Code sports reckons Brisbane rucks hard to score against:
Rucks v Brisbane: A warning for Tristan Xerri captainers! Oscar McInerney is the hardest ruckman in the comp to score against, holding Jarrod Witts to 54, Darcy Cameron to 90 and Toby Nankervis to 87 in recent weeks. Xerri is in red-hot form (three-round average 149) but a return closer to the 115 he scored against the Big O last year might be closer to the mark.

    • Witts, DCam and Nank kind of held themselves to those scores tbh.

He hasn’t covered a ruck in HOs this year except English, a subbed BJ and a subbed SDK. Everyone else has comfortably beaten him. It’s the Lions MIDs than are more of a problem than him.

Xerri just immense. Sweet one of the most restrictive rucks, Max too, and he let loose against both of them.
