Cow Talk Round 14–>15

Written by Father Dougal on June 21 2023

Hi Everybody!

I wasn’t able to find the numbers, but a while back I looked at rucks to see if, or really how, their careers went differently then other players. The big takeaway was unlike other positions, rucks can go from low 40-60 averages right to 90+ averages and then keep that up.  I think, and this is not an original thought, it is because rucks tend to go from little playing time, perhaps not even as a ruck directly to a full time job. Not always slow growth where they get more minutes and get better, just get a job, start scoring.

Quickly looking at some current rucks:

English got eased in, went from 60 to 80 and did ok, but he did actually get eased in.

Witts went from 50s to 90s.

Marshall went from 62 to 110

Nankervis went from 42 to 74 but then hovered around 90

Goldy went from 65  to 113

Darcy went from 78 to 118

ROB went from 63 to 95

Gawn went from 63 to 102

Grundy went from 62 to 90

Not scientific but does show the jumping up and keeping up an average when a ruck gets a job.

Sounds like a children’s book!

See Kieren ruck. Ruck Kieran, ruck!

Which is exactly what he is doing. He got a job, and he can do it, and is doing it, and there is no non-injury reason to think he won’t just keep doing it.  After 5 games, we can make an edumacated guess that he can keep up something near his current average, like 100+ probably.  Which means you can hold him and trade out a different ruck for a premium on another line.

Defenders

Sheezel: I feel like you trade him now or keep him. I am keeping him.  I have too many other players I can improve more. I suspect most of us are in the same boat.  But, I am sure there are people doing well enough that trading would make sense. A few. It is possible I am jealous. Gonna move on now….

L Jones:

Last Week: Trading him out on his Bye can’t come soon enough.

This Week: Broke his arm early in the match, out for 10 or so weeks, good grief. What a frustrating pick he turned out to be. He has helped the Dogs lots, and they will miss him. His SC owners, not so much.

Dodgy Advice:   Yeo is doing well, but he is made of Injurium, and therefore is a horrible risk. There are all kinds of dodgy players, but all the ones I can see are too dodgy to actually suggest. Maybe there are good clever chacp picks, if so please share…..

Remember the Cow Talk guarantee: “All predictions wrong or triple your money back!”  (Offer not valid if money is actually involved.)

I am time zonally challenged.  When Cow Talk goes live, I’m probably asleep, so replies from me may take a while.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Thanks Father, amazing as always… Dev Robertson? Also thinking about Ashcroft to Mills. Take out the 4 and even though Horse thinks he’s a Swiss Army knife he’s still at 97 or so at 470k .What are your thoughts on this?

    1. Mills could be anything! If he is what you can afford, then sure, worth a punt. But, still a punt. More importantly, his BE is 167. That 5 is in his three round average for two more rounds. Can you wait to get him in?

When he hits his low price, he may end up dodgy advice.
