Fallen Premiums – Round 16

Defenders

Luke Parker -476.7k, (0k), 104 AVG, 79 BE

With a bunch of relevant defensive premos on a bye this round and at risk of continuing to put the same players in this article all the time, Parker is the lone defender featured this week. He started the year real hot in his new defensive role and then cooled off a bit in the middle. He seems to have had another resurgence with 2 tons in his last 3 and has Essendon coming up, an opponent he dropped an eye-watering 161 on in Round 3. Do keep in mind though that he played Richmond last week, who give up about a million disposals to basically whoever wants them each week. The Roos do leave Marvel just 3 times on the run home and some tougher matchups means more opportunities for Parker. If you’re looking for a cheaper D6, its probably a smart move. More DPP can never hurt either. As is the case every week. Ash and Whitfield keep hovering at affordable prices and should be in your team. Or you can wait for one of the guys on the bye this week.

Midfielders

Andy Brayshaw -521.5k, (-94.9k), 96 AVG, 76 BE

Freo have been a hard team to judge in SuperCoach this year as their balanced game-style has shot them to the top of the comp. Brayshaw came off a career best average of 114 last year and dropped some stinkers right away due to his new, more defensive role. Although not quite returning to last years form, he’s quietly put together some solid scores, not dropping under 90 for 6 weeks and scoring over 110 in his last 3. He could’ve gone bigger against Geelong too if not for some uncharacteristic frees against. Just football-wise he’s in fantastic form and he remains a cheap buy this week. Might be worth a look at one of those last midfield spots as Freo push to September. Callaghan who I’ve mentioned plenty, is also around this price point and in a similar boat, though he has added tag risk.

Patrick Cripps -513k, (-15k), 97 AVG, 116 BE

Another guy that I really didn’t think I’d be floating as an option this year is the Carlton skipper. I think last week was confirmation for just about everyone that this turnaround is no longer a fluke and the Baggers are somehow now a good side. They’ve gone on these weird, emotionally charged momentum swings (for better or worse) often in this era and it looks like happening again. They usually coincide with Crippa’s best footy, doing what he’s done for basically his whole career and trying to physically drag them over the line. His SuperCoach scoring has never really matched his status in the game, so he won’t rack up points like a Bont or Daicos (Might score 200 this week by the way in case you don’t have him), but he’s come home like a freight train before and gone 110+ down the stretch. Risky, but could pay off if he and the baggers continue this surge. Also has West Coast this week which you can think of as a sweet sign-on bonus.

Rucks

Luke Jackson -587.1k, (-24.1k), 125 AVG, 51 BE

Last week in an attempt to quickly save my sinking season, I passed on Jackson and brought in Xerri on the basis of unlocking monstrous captaincy scores. In a turn of events that sums up my year pretty nicely, Jackson dropped 176 and Xerri is now out for 2 weeks. This guy is an absolute freak and does it all, leading the Dockers to the finals. Probably our last chance to get him under $600k due to that big score and along with Gawn and Grundy, becomes a massive priority to own as one of the standout rucks that are so far ahead of the pack. If you already have him, wait for Xerri’s return or if you have the cash and trades go grab a Gawn or Grundy. If you could realistically do the latter, you’re probably laughing right now anyway.

Forwards

Zac Bailey -467.8k, (-6.9k), 96 AVG, 88 BE

Chad Warner -455.8k, (-49.1k), 90 AVG, 73 BE

Putting these guys together because they’re playing each other tomorrow night and are pretty similar prospects. Both are playing in top sides who’s games are gonna matter a lot towards the end of the year and both are super important to their team. They are also pretty inconsistent SuperCoach scorers and can waste chances to go large. I reckon I would personally go Bailey as he’s been slightly better on the year and plays for the team that really needs to get a move on, but they’re similar options. Alternatively if you have more cash you can target JHF or De Goey who both scored really well against each other last week and seem to have put the questions around them to bed for now. If you’ve kept a Murdock or Jagga type and you’re low on trades, keeping them at F6 is probably fine for the next few.
