The weekly discount catalogue
Defenders
Some of the same options from the last couple of weeks are still relevant here, so I won’t discuss them ad nauseam. Bringing in whoever you don’t have out of Nas (576.6k) and Whitfield (547.7k) is a smart option as they’re still at a reasonable price and have decent fixtures. If you already have them or your structure is looking okay as is, you can wait a couple weeks for some of the juicy price drops that are coming our way soon. There’s also a couple of guys that are underpriced, if you feel like taking a risk.
Archie Roberts – 521.1k, (+68.4k), 107 AVG, 29 BE
Discussed Roberts last week as an option and he backed it up with a ridiculous performance in Essendon’s upset win, scoring 145 from 42 touches. He’s been a ball magnet for a while but he’s now starting to use the ball well enough to convert it into big SuperCoach scores. He looks to be breaking out properly and could be a slightly different option for anyone who doesn’t have bigger issues in their side to deal with. He definitely has a more settled role than McKercher, who I put in the same category last week.
Nic Newman – 439.3k, 93 AVG, 75 BE
If you’re super strapped for cash, you could take a punt on Newman. A popular pre-season pick, he’s played 2 games and looked okay with both scores in the 90s. He’s one of the better ball users in Carlton’s backline and should be at least underpriced for what he can provide as he settles back in. He averaged 100 the last 2 seasons he played. Big question marks over whether he can get back there due to a range of factors, mainly health, age and Carlton’s current form. Personally I’d only buy if you really need the spare cash more than one of the top premos.

Jack Sinclair – 593.3k, 157 BE
Jordan Clark – 529.6k, 157 BE
Tom Stewart – 527.8k, 156 BE
Lachie Ash – 589.9k, 139 BE
Midfielders
Sam Walsh – 524.3k, (-19.6k), 104 AVG, 103 BE
The former number 1 pick hasn’t quite managed to recapture the SuperCoach form of his early career, interrupted pre-seasons and role changes have kept his 3rd season’s average of 117 as his highest in 2021 (scary that it was 5 whole years ago). While Hewett’s omission from the Blues side is a contentious move, it looked to free up Walsh last Thursday against the Crows. He had a massive first quarter and finished on 118 with more time on the ball to utilise his running power. He comes in a fair bit cheaper than some other premo mids, but you can also have another look at him in a weeks time, after we see how he goes tonight.
Lachie Neale – 530.8k, (-42.5k), 107 AVG, 70 BE
Mentioned him last week and Neale backed it up with a handy score against the roos. Same thing as last week still applies here, surely he can avoid attention now with the Lions midfield around him being so good. In a contract year too, he’s still a good option that might not be this cheap for long.

Rucks
Again not a lot to see here in the ruck department. Get the big dogs of the likes of Gawn and Jackson in if you can, but for now I’ll just mention a couple guys to keep in your peripheral vision.
Darcy Cameron – 467.5k, 84 AVG, 112 BE
He’s definitely not one to target this week, but just keep an eye on the Collingwood ruck situation. After Darcy went down last week forcing Jackson to solo ruck for the Dockers, Cameron also took basically a solo ruck role for the rest of the game in response. Steene has looked good as an athletic ruck who brings a different style in there, but when the chips are down, Cameron is clearly still the main man. Watch his price continue to drop, and if last weeks split becomes a pattern, he could end up being great value.

Forwards
Izak Rankine – 440.5k, (-98.9k), 70 AVG, 92 BE
Rankine finally got going a bit last week after a poor start to the season. Averaged a hair under 100 last season, so he could be good value if this is him returning to form. If you think he’s back and you can stand listening to the bordering on unhealthy obsession commentators have with him, you can bring him in. Or if you’re not fully convinced, you can wait another week with his BE still at 92. I’ll be doing the latter. Other options at a similar price point are his teammate Josh Rachele (454k) and Connor MacDonald (439k) who have been scoring pretty consistently in new midfield roles, but may yet run into issues with consistency as many forwards do.

Touk Miller – 540.1k, 161 BE
Gryan Miers – 482.7k, 144 BE
Hopefully some of these BE’s will mean some big discounts over the next few weeks, that’s all for now.
Fantastic summary, thank you
