Game Chat – Brisbane v Geelong

Written by Motts on June 24 2021

Where and when: Gabba at 7:20pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 2, 2021:  Geelong 12.9 (81) DEF Brisbane 11.14 (80) at Kardinia Park.

Last five: Lions 4-1, Cats 5-0

Match Preview: Cracking game this one! 3 vs 4 on the ladder and Brisbane with a bit of a chip on their shoulder after having the last match between them taken away in controversial circumstances. Really looking forward to the midfield match ups. I’m leaning towards Brisbane only because they’re playing at home and Mitch Duncan is out.

Mottsy Watch:

Brisbane
Neale, Zorko, Madden

Geelong
Stewart, Dangerfield, Hawkins

Mottsy’s Tip: Brisbane by 5 points (tipping record 29/39).

    1. Still relevant Bobo. Some may want too jump on Dangerfield tonight now if they planned on waiting 1 more week

        1. Yeah I have CCJ and weightman so I’ll be looping them. I am sure one can give me a decent onfield score and I’ll grab danger next week

  1. With the Impey news I can do one of one two things? 7 trades left

TU – Play Weightman & CCJ this week & trade Impey > Danger next week (due to reduced price)
TD – Trade Impey & Highmore > Danger & nuff this week.

  2. I love this time of the round! My projected score looks so healthy and then the games start and it’s all downhill lol
    Good luck everyone!

  3. Coming into tonight not expecting much.

    Have Neale, Cameron and Stewart.

Neale definitely gets vice gripped by O’Connor and doubt the Lions let Cameron kick a bag. Neale gets a pass after his delicious C score last week. Stewart will ton, so expecting 240~ between the three of them tbh.

Main thing I’m worried about is Lyons and Zorko punishing me as a non-owner though, argh.

    1. Hi GD, It has been hectic this evening!
I only have McCluggage in this. I just hope that his kicking will improve tonight as his Disposal efficiency has been woeful the last few weeks.

        1. My pods looked promising but alas have crashed.

Duncan was costly having dropped over 100k since I bought him in.
Even though I think he is a great player he will have to go on my never again list after injuries have cruelled his last two seasons.

All the best for the weekend.

          Same to everyone else.

  4. Impey news thrown my trade plans into chaos.

    How does this sound?

    Impey-Briggs
    LJones-Neale

Dev Rob and Poulter at F5-6 this week and grab Danger via them next week

    TU – good trades
    TD – bad trades

      1. Leon Cameron: “Young Matty Flynn, I don’t think he’s played at the MCG in an AFL game. Briggs as well, who’s stepped up in the ruck, he’ll get that opportunity as well.”

  5. LATE CHANGES
Brisbane: Grant Birchall replaced in selected side by Jack Payne

    MEDICAL SUBS
    Brisbane: Rhys Mathieson
    Geelong: Quinton Narkle

  6. Keen for a ripper match tonight. Only have Zorko and Stewart, been trying to get Lyons in for months but no luck.

More importantly I made sure to not have weightman as my captain two weeks in a row! Got the v on Grundy into Oliver

  7. I don’t know whether it’s a good thing or not, but just Robertson on bench in this. At least I have a stress free night watching if any injuries. A modest night from Mr Stewart would be a good result.

  8. OUT: Impey & L Jones

TU: Trade in Briggs & L Neale
TD: Trade in Briggs & Lyons

Briggs is just a bench warmer. Its either Lyons or Neale for my last Midfield upgrade.

  9. If I was in your shoes I’d back Lyons. Uber consistent and has a close ceiling to Neale but a much higher floor plus is less likely to get tagged ahead of Neale, Zorko or even mccluggage

    1. Wish I had seen this before the game started – went Neale – will hopefully work out in the long run.

  10. O’Connor onto Neale’s ass straight away, no surprise there.

Stewart being played accountable and matching up on Cameron.

  11. I think lions will regret their poor kicking for goal, should be 6 goals infront. Reminds me of them last year and their poor kicking, from memory cost them a couple of wins

    1. Oh 100%, Tom.

Such a deficiency in their game. What’s odd is they the nail tough shots but butcher the easy ones.

That won’t fly in finals, needs to be corrected.

    1. yep was about to post “umpires crucifying Lions in this quarter …” … its such BS so many games this year decided by umpiring … should never happen …

      1

      3
  12. Wow, I have never seen Stewart snap like that before, so out of character from him. Lions really getting into them, fascinating contest

    2

    2
    1. gotta say the other way Tom.
Lions getting roughed up around the ground a bit, some shots being taken by many of their players and some not penalised that should have been … then about 8 frees in a row paid to Cats with some cheap shots thrown in … and I think finally Lions had had enough … and the Stewart rubbish on Cameron was the final straw …

They don’t like each other these two teams … and some good history there … certainly good to watch … if not for a ridiculous amount of frees now …

      1. I meant they were getting stuck into them by dominating the game but yeah some pretty average stuff here from the cats, still cant believe selwood didnt get suspended last week. Has been a cracking game just wish it would flow better in the second half. I know the Afl doesnt like and others might not but I love matches like this when theres niggles and both teams dont like each other. Adds for a fascinating contest

      2. Hey macca those 8 frees in a row evened up free kick count , Brisbane got the lot in first quarter.

        2

        1
        1. I think the Cats want to ruffle Lions and they want a stop start game to slow it down and go with set kicks … more their style … they don’t want Lions running the ball at will …

It’s going to get interesting even more so I think … Lions will feel they owe the Cats for the final loss last year and the loss with the no umpire call early this year … if Cats can get under their skin, it might upset them

  13. Daniher just qualified for Olympic diving team! Umpires absolutely shocking , have no control at all.

  14. Daniher is such a poser.

Taking the bigvfmdive and feigning serious head high contact.

As per my earlier post…well on track to score a ton.

    1. Tom Morris just said looks like AC joint and Lions have said he will play out the second half and it will be assessed tomorrow … hopefully he is OK.

Stewart playing a lock down role on Cameron is not a good call and he is all out of sorts … and it is also hurting Cats structural play as well … Scott sat Stewart on the bench after that dumb play on Cameron … will be interesting to see if they put Stewart back into his normal role in second half …

  16. HALF TIME – Lions 8.9.57 leading the Cats 3.5.23 and there’s a bit of feeling in this game. AFL will be increasing their bank figure with lots of fines to come I would think after a spiteful 2nd quarter. Lachie Neale – off with a should er injury but back out there. Coaches with Zorko will be happy, unless they also have Stewart & Hawkins who have been disappointing.

  17. How good is Lyons. Been trying to get him in for 2 months and still havent somehow, always been a little bit short on cash to afford him. Was a super pod for me last year and is making me regret not starting him this year. Can someone knock some sense into me next year when i build my team to include him at m3

    1. I traded him in 10 minutes before the start of the game – then traded him out and traded in Neale instead to save $. Turned the TV off when Neale went off holding his shoulder. Story of my season.

    1. Completely agree, Bruce.

They’re giving frees for bumps and body work. Ridiculous.

  18. Ahh big regrets trading out zorko to make up 18 last week and get to full premo. Didn’t think he would be this good with Neale in there.

At least I had Daniher ton up.

  19. Big win Lions!

Fagan press conference just said thinks Neale’s shoulder was just a burner … nothing popped out – so should be OK – we’ll see but may well just be a jarred shoulder
