Game Chat – Bulldogs v Geelong

Written by Motts on August 28 2020

Where and when: Metricon, 7:50pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R16 2019, Bulldogs 10.11 (71) DEF Geelong 7.13 (55)

What it means for The Dogs: They’re in the 8 but have Melbourne, Carlton and GWS nipping at their heels. A win consolidates their position albeit temporarily.

What it means for Geelong: A chance to take first spot on the ladder albeit temporarily.

Motts Watch: Hawkins has been dominating of late. He’s not in my team but I’m looking forward to seeing him perform again.

      1. Hmmm based on GD’s captains article and Macrae’s last three V Cats, he doesn’t seem to score that well against them … maybe a “risky” choice as C … then again, if Titch is VC it’s a hard choice I guess …

How well will Grundy go against the Blues??

        1. Macca, I know. My opponent in my biggest cash league is gone NicNat to Macrae. I want to match him to neutralise His captain .That’s if he doesn’t change last minutes

          1. yep, good call – check your other player match ups though to and make an “assessment” that your players will outscore his … in general … if you think not, you may need to bank on a bigger score … but its all luck … who knows how it will all go … and how CD choose to score players …

  1. TU: Captain Macrae
TD: Captain J Kelly / Lloyd

VC with Titch, elimination final so need to go hard or go home

  2. I dont have macrae, so im going vc Bont into C J.Kelly.

Not too confident on Bont, but will give it a crack.

Otherwise was thinking vc J.Kelly into C Steele.

  3. Any reason why no one is talking about a Bont VC? Been massive recently, feel like I always vice the wrong pup.

    1. hmmmm looking like this was the week to get on him despite his bye … was watching for his game to come back and his price to drop … was looking at him as my last mid upgrade after his bye …

      1. I believe his score is doubled as he is your captain and then if that score doesn’t make the best 18, you loose it all together. In the case tonight, his doubled score will count, unless you team all smashes out 200 each 😉

  4. Dunkley doing some ruck work at stoppages again … did the same last round … not good for his scoring … or his longevity!!

  6. Dear Mr Scott … it would be appreciated if you could ensure Duncan is on the ball and hard at all stoppages for remainder of the game, no time on bench and instruuctions issued to all Cats players to look for him at all stages … and now he gives away a free … FFS!!

    1. having a ‘mare and had some tough calls by CD at the start of the game as ineffective DE’s / clangers – 2 of the 3 he was called for weren’t in my opinion, and then with the way the system works, when they have such a low percentage early their scores are stuff for the rest of the game … plus he’s also not playing that well

  7. danger has dived for the loose ball twice now into a bulldogs players legs

  8. My opponent in cash league has c on macrae.
    Iv got vc on bont.
    So far thats a win.

But iv got duncan and he doesn’t.

When you think your doing well in supercoach, something always happens.

Here’s hoping duncan can pull together some sort of respectable score in the last quarter.

  9. Look i am enjoying the game , but it is so frustrating to see f..king no body being able to kick on their opposite , i think i am talking for all 45-60 yo who honestly can not believe how you can play league footy without being competent on both sides of your body when it was all we were taught.
    tu- am i being silly

    1. And i was taught with a plastic footy. Kicking mainly for goal has gone backwards. Plugger was a great kick for goal but did anyone see Peter Hudson with his flat punts.

  10. Credit where it’s due. Great come back by Geelong, also from McRae and Duncan who were below par for most of the match but finished the game well.

  11. Should i take Bonts vc?
    Only playing for cash league.
And my opponent had the C on Macrae
Or roll the dice on J Kelly?

    Tu- Bont
    Td- J.Kelly

    1. you may be right, but he does get a lot of the footy … was scored harshly early on by CD in the game and a free against which wasn’t and he dropped off … my biggest issue with him is he doesn’t tackle hard / get in hard on the ball – doesn’t commit his body enough …

  12. still say Bont gets points from CD for flicking his hair etc … I reckon they even paid him the tackle and free earlier in the game that was B Smiths as well …

    1. Hahaha. Such a number-crunching, account’s perspective on football, Macca!

You’re right though. Must say, as a Bont owner, it was nice watching him sail on to 120 for just looking at the ball with intent lol.

  13. What the actual flower are the dickheads up at champion data doing. Dangerfield absolutely dominates, best on ground easily, and scaling decides to flower him over and take off ten points for losing one contested possession. Bont got 122 for 14 touches and Dangerfield had 32 touches for 132? what the flower is going on there?

    1. just don’t get me started on CD scoring – the whole system is broken and so subjective, as is the scaling process … they never even responded to my email to them last round on how Goldie was ripped off and i actually quoted them the times to the minutes and seconds left on the clock where they scored incorrectly or gave him nothing…

  14. I wonder whether we sometimes are a little unfair on CD. Sometimes i notice score changes can take quite some time to be adjusted after a kick, mark, tackle etc…. So when we say CD is wrong, it may not be as regards a passage of play that we see live.

    1. I agree Wighty, the biggest head-scratcher for me though was Dangerfield’s point deduction after the game last night. I thought one of the main factors in scaling was supposed to be impact on the game in a tight contest? Dangerfield was immense in getting the Cats over the line, was fully expecting him to be upscaled to 150 after full-time. Instead you’ve got guys like Bont & Daniel hogging some points… crazy.

      2

      1
    2. yeah Wighty, I factor all of that in before I raise concerns … usually allow a few minutes of play to continue.

eg Last night Bailey Smith and then Bont applied a tackle … when the ref finally called free kick, the free kick for and the tackle stat was given to Bont – he went from 4 tackles to 5 and same with the free added to him … Bailey Smith was actually the guy who won the ball … but the CD scorers gave it to Bont.

And agree VicGunner as well – Danger was fantastic last night particularly in the last and was instrumental in dragging the Cats over the line … based on his stats etc compared to Bont’s and his impact, he should have scored much more.

The problem with the system and its escalated this year with shorter quarters, is that they apply scaling hard right from the start – its why Dunk was on 70 at qtr time … and because they allocate the points heavily, later in the game, when players earn stats, by their scoring system, they dont always get the points for them. The same applied in reverse last night to Duncan, he was adjudged (harshly so IMO) on his first 4 possessions as all being ineffective or clangers – and so he had 0DE – his score was thus stuffed for the rest of the night … he got a big boost kicking the goal in the end … but its the single biggest flaw in their system … get rid of the scaling factor and the maximum points for the game … and just pay or remove points from the players for what they do … right to full time … it’s fairer that way and more transparent to all …

      1. Brilliantly put Macca, totally agree. Scrap the 3300 limit and scaling, its the fairest & most logical way.
