Without a number of key players, the Pies rose to the sizeable task laid down by the Blues. Trailing by 10 points midway through the third quarter, Collingwood weathered the storm and finished with a flourish. Holding Carlton goalless for the entirety of the second half, the Pies kicked five unanswered majors of their own to coast home. Jamie Elliott (19 disposals, eight tackles) enjoyed a standout midfield performance, but was supported admirably by Taylor Adams (23 disposals, seven clearances) and youngster Josh Daicos (21 disposals, one goal).
Match Preview: Bucks doesn’t want to think about it but the truth is one of these teams is more than likely going to be on 0-2 after this game. We’re only in Round 2 and already we’ve got a high stakes match! Both teams have good players returning (Sidebottom and Williams) and both will be dead keen for the W. Should be a cracking game between two teams that aren’t big fans of one another.

I reckon this game will be won or lost in the ruck. Grundy looked like he won the tap outs last week but the Dogs mids were snaffling everything. Even with Cripps, Walsh, and Williams, Carlton doesn’t have that same quality running through the guts so Pittonet needs to step up.
Collingwood
While the margin was only 16 points against The Dogs last week, the Pies never led. They had winners in the middle (Pendles) and down back (Moore) but their forward line was relatively bare. Who will kick their goals this week?

OK for me, its somewhat official … CD have changed the guard in the scoring of the two big rucks – watching Gawn and Grundy last week as opposed to the other rucks, and watching Grundy being scored over 1 quarter tonight. …the fix is on as they say, as far as I am concerned. Whether they want mix it up and make it more “interesting” by not having two lock in big scorers or whatever … there is no way Pittonet outscored / outperformed or outplayed Grundy in that quarter …
And forget he kicked a goal and forget what the “recorded” stats say … Grundy is simply being scored harshly … IMO
We’ll see how the scoring ends up at the end of the match …
I agree Macca, watching the game I expected Grundy to be dominating the scoring with 8+ hit-outs to advantage. His scoring has picked up a bit late in the second quarter but it seems low. Which is great as I don’t own him!

Haha … yeah, it didn’t look quite right last week, and especially with some of the big scores of the other less known rucks, shall we say … and whilst Grundy was off and yes the Doggies had a great midfield, I didn’t think he actually scored as badly as he was on the “official stats”… same for Grawn …
Tonight, he’s dominating Pittonet – yet they are still virtually the same score … suss as!!
5 clangers probably has a lot to do with Grundy’s low score
Gawn’s score was pretty spot on for affect last week – he barely touched it until mid-second quarter. It will be interesting to see how he goes against a weak ruck this week.
You are right about the Dogs – they will make a lot of midfields look poor this season.
I’m with you macca , at qtr time it was 15 ho to 6 , 4 poss to 2 , same de and same score. When you are not a fave anymore they whack you.
Hey Macca, you know what, I agree mate. I recon CD changed their “secret herbs and spices”. I watched Gawn last week have, as a min, 4HTA (and I mean straight in the lap of Oliver, Harmes and Trac) a contested mark from op kick and no sharks by Half time and he was on 30! How is that possible!?!

There wasn’t ever any suggestion that they wouldn’t be the top 2 rucks.
The conjecture was regarding the ability of them to average 130 & 140 or 110 & 115 in 2021 and whether or not it would be better to start 2 alternatives and upgrade to them when they are significantly cheaper.
So far it appears that it would have been better to start with cheaper alternatives in the ruck and go four deep with defenders

Based on two games thus far – you would have to say Dow and Cripps are both trade outs … neither look great.
Dow down to Warner (if you don’t have him) if he can be seen to hold his place, and use the funds to upgrade Cripps to anyone in that bracket – also depends if you hold all the best rookies and they hold their places …
Considering this though …
I might sideways Dow to one of the Young’s (not Angus or Malcolm) and trade Cripps to Rowbottom.
Rowbottom will be the breakout midfielder of the year he had a knee hyper extension in 2nd qrtr last week and the anesthetic stopped him from being able to kick properly but he still managed 115?
Dow at 56 and 60 last week isn’t shockingly bad for a rookie.
He’s just not a huge earner quickly.

I don’t see him as robbed when he was inefficient with the ball going at 56% efficiency. He may have had a lot of HTA but how many hitouts were to the opposition? There was probably a couple which would restrict his score.
51 hitouts – not sure how many were “officially” scored as to advantage, but for each one to advantage, they score 5 points … surely he got 20 / 25?? (now remember, just because the stat says something, doesn’t mean it was scored correctly ok)

yes, down as 5 clangers – 1 was a free against -4 points
2 frees for 8 points
So of his 16 disposals then they are saying he went at 56% and in that, 4 of those were clangers, so negative points for those.
I don’t have the specifics on his ones recorded as clangers (and again, remember, I dont trust the stats he was given) so I’m not sure on which ones lose the most points and which ones gain them … but kicks score more
Regardless of these, I reckon he was scored harshly, in real terms, and they couldn’t refute too much, as he was dominating the hitouts by such a large margin regardless, he had to be scored somewhat decently.
Anyway, everyone can have their opinion … I’ve watched enough games over many years and rewatched games and can and have shown in years gone by how the scoring can be at best “wrong or missed” … and at worst deliberate … and possibly done so to make it more engaging for us punters to choose different players … anyways .. many will disagree no doubt.
Or, he was over rewarded tonight.

Yep, ‘have to agree guys. IMO their scoring system has gone from “umpiring” to spectator refereeing (personal judgement).
……which also leads me to wonder why we have always called crickets’ “Umpires” when they are clearly “Refereeing” and it’s the cameras that are the real/actual “umpires”……
