Game Chat – Carlton v North

Written by Motts on July 24 2021

Where and when: Docklands at 1:45pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 8, 2020: North 9.3 (57) DEF BY Carlton 9.10 (64) at the Gabba.

Last five: Carlton 3-2, North 2-3

Match Preview: North’s record doesn’t reflect it, but they’ve looked really good lately. Since the match against Melbourne in Round 7, their confidence has grown and they’ve been competitive to the point where they’ve claimed the scalps of Hawthorn, Gold Coast, and West Coast (who they beat at home a couple of weeks ago). Let’s not forget that draw with GWS. Carlton meanwhile have looked great at times but absolutely sh*thouse at others. I spent the first half of last week’s match cursing at Teague’s lack of a Plan B as the Blues continually kicked it long to a contest only to have it bounce back a few seconds later. Don’t start me on Zac Williams. The guy won a 50m penalty and got puffed running that out! Crippa coming back in will help and they’ll be looking to do the right thing by Ed Curnow who’s playing his 200th but I haven’t got a lot of confidence in them.

Mottsy Watch:

Carlton
Walsh (captained him last week), Kennedy (has been super lately), Williams (because I want to see him earn his $800k pa contract)
North
Ziebell (everybody’s favourite Roo in SC), Goldstein (best ruck ever?), Zurhaar (super-entertaining whenever he’s near the ball)
Mottsy’s Tip: Carlton by 20 points (tipping record 36/51).

  1. No late changes, Murphy and Polec the subs.

Only the Seagull Brothers, Ziebell and Hall, for me here. Don’t see how Walsh doesn’t go 150 plus, so prepared for him to punish me in league match ups.

  2. Afternoon Gunboat.

VC on Walsh 😉 …with JZ and Hall in this one for me.

I passed on Kennedy and Tarryn Thomas , so I fully expect them both to ton up.

I have a sneaky feeling someone will try to go to Walsh today. I’m not sure if it will stick , hence the VC. I think you just have to respect the kid. Some of his clutch goals and plays over the last few weeks have been super impressive. If he gets close to that today , he should post a decent score.

I will keeping a close eye on your VC Miller in the other game later.

Hope you have a great Saturday .

    1. You too, habib.

Can see Thomas going well. I’ll start him next year if he retains FWD status and builds his tank.

      1. Yeah could be a good shout.

I think there’s going to be a heap of Forwards next year to consider.

Dunkley will be first picked if he keeps M/F.

Marshall and English will have R/F and I’m already looking at starting both. Maybe one at R2 ?

Zorko and Duncan should also be available, but age / injury may rule them out as starting picks.

Thomas and Zac Bailey will both be big Breakout candidates and will most likely come in contention.

Charley Curnow will also be super cheap ( around $200K ) and may be a stepping stone type.

  3. Great news for those that held Cripps….I finally got rid of him. Disaster for Track holders….my new recruit.

  4. Gambled on Tarryn Thomas in for Dusty – he’d been building nicely the last few weeks. Stoked so far!

  5. Walsh had been unstoppable recently, until…. I finally put the VC on him. My recent curse is alive and well.
Just a warning for everyone that I put the C on Steele, so look for him to go down mid game with lupus or something
