Game Chat – Carlton vs Brisbane

Written by Thommo on April 24 2021

Where and when: Marvel Stadium, Saturday 24th April at 4:35pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R18 2020: Brisbane 11.12 (78) def Carlton 10.1 (61) at the GABBA.

Despite this being Kade Simpson’s last game, the Blues were only kept semi-close by inaccurate kicking by the Lions. With Lachie Neale and Daniel Rich dominating for the home side, the Lions kicked 5 unanswered goals in the second quarter to put this match away early. Walsh racked up 21 contested possessions, playing a lone hand after Cripps injured his shoulder early.

Match Preview: After many considered them a chance at challenging the Power last week, Carlton put in a lacklustre performance and never really featured. Conversely, the Lions played their most complete match of the season in downing the Bombers in very wet conditions. The Blues will need to lift a few notches if they are to be any chance of defeating the Lions today.

Thommo’s Watch:

Carlton:

It’s all about Sammy Boy for Thommo today. The Lions won’t be tagging Walsh so hopefully he helps himself to a healthy 20+ contested possessions again.

Brisbane:

Lachie Neale’s price has just about bottomed out now so if he shows up today it might be time to bring him back into our midfield rotations.

Thommo’s Tip: Brisbane by 18 (tipping record 5/15).

      1. Neale now down in the rooms, Fox saying he is getting his ankle strapped and hopefully will come back on.

  1. I took a punt and brought in Neale this week, that better not be a serious injury!!! That better just a little niggle/knock that he can play through or I am going to lose it!

  2. Neale staying on but he looks very tentative on it. Just gone to get it re-strapped.

As an Essendon supporter I have enjoyed immensely Joe Daniher’s set shot kicking for goal so far….

  3. Neale back on the sideline! So now still has a quarter time to rest his ankle which hopefully makes it in a better condition!

  5. The all-time clanger record in a single game is 13, Cripps has 7 with 14 minutes to play in the second quarter.

    1. he’s gone next week no matter what … not even worth holding as an M8 … killing our teams in points lost and cash lost … then again, Dunkley out might just save him again ….
