Game Chat – Melbourne vs Richmond

Written by Thommo on April 24 2021

Where and when: MCG, Saturday 24th April at 7:25pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R5 2020: Richmond 12.7 (79) def Melbourne 8.4 (52) at MCG

I must be crazy because I didn’t remember any footy being played at the MCG in July last year! The Tigers ground over the Dees in this one with little fuss despite the loss of Cotchin, Prestia and Nank and Lynch playing with a broken finger. Gawn, Petracca and Oliver were Melbourne’s best but they had few friends while Lambert was huge for Richmond with 3 goals.

Match Preview: Melbourne is starting to gain some momentum which often means they are about to disappoint everyone. Defeating Geelong was a good start in proving the nay-sayers wrong, but knocking off the premiers will mean a lot more. That will not be easy as the Tigers are starting to find some form as they tend to do after the first month of the season.

This should be a cracker!

Thommo’s Watch:

Melbourne:

The Demon’s trio of Gawn, Oliver and Petracca should find plenty of points against the non-tagging Tigers.

Richmond:

Thanks to Dangerfield’s injury, Martin is about the only premium forward left. Let’s hope he doesn’t succumb to the forward curse of 2021.

Thommo’s Tip: Melbourne by 10 points. (tipping record 5/15).

  1. I think this might be the game where Melbourne ( just like my SuperCoach team) comes crashing down to earth !
    But let’s see…

  2. Took Macrae’s 140 VC score.

Both my cash league opponents had dunkley VC 132, but went with Gawn C…

I think it’s gonna hurt me, but how can you say no to a 140!?

  3. Is absolutely pissing down now at the footy. Not sure if thats good for Gawn or not. On one hand more stoppages on another tougher for him to take his marks in the heavy rain
